Styling A Little Black Dress in Spring

Black is one of those colors that’s always on trend, but it can look a bit out of place this time of year with all the bright colors. You can style a little black dress in spring, the trick is in the styling and accessories.

In the winter, I would have paired this little black dress with thick tights, boots, a scarf and lots of layers. But with warmer weather, I’m ditching the layers and adding a trendy heel. (Sorry for the squinting, I should have grabbed my sunglasses.)

I have always had a “thing” for different styles of shoes and when I saw this pair, I thought they would look good with a little black dress. (The shoes are from MissGuided and I had a gift card from them. If you visit their site, their clothes aren’t my style so I went with shoes.)

I added a black and white clutch and I kept my jewelry simple.

Well, I thought I would talk a little about decorating today too. These next two pictures are not my house but they’re ideas I have for decorating.

I call my style in decorating, Traditional/Southern. I am wanting to redo my bedroom and this is my inspiration picture. I found it on Houzz. Have you heard of that site?? My sister shared it with me this past week and she couldn’t believe I didn’t know about it. I told you all I’m always late to the party!

I have custom cherry cabinets and a dark countertop in my kitchen. I am having a backsplash added in my kitchen. It’s similar to the glass tile in this picture. I should have it completed in the next two weeks.

I’ll share some pictures when I’m finished with some of my summer projects!

Do you have any summer projects going on?

  1. I was wondering if you have done a blog post about staying in Gods word. What do you do to stay consistent? Do you follow a study? Read through the Bible? My heart is there but I can’t stay consistent. I let the business of the world win out too often. Any advice?

  2. Apparently I’m late to the party too! Thanks for the hot tip. I just added the Houzz app to my phone! Love the bedroom and kitchen you featured.
I really like your shoes also. I am a fan of chunky heels. They always seem more comfy and stabilizing for me.

  3. Love the shoes with the dress! I have a very similar dress and and I had to attend a memorial last weekend. I ended up throwing a little open black sweater over the dress to cover my shoulders and then paired it with nude pumps and a nude bag just to lighten it up a bit. I got lots of compliments. In the past I would have defaulted to black shoes and bag, but blogs like yours are helping me “branch out” a bit.

  4. Love this outfit on you! I also love the master bedroom, this has such a beautiful classic look, the glass tile will make a gorgeous backsplash, can’t wait to see your completed projects!?

  5. Love the black and white! Houzz is like Pinterest but only for the home! Love it and have many ideas books or whatever they call them. ?☺️

  6. Cyndi,
You look absolutely beautiful! Are the shoes comfortable? I saw a cute pair on their site that I like, and they are offering 30% off for first time shoppers.

Hope the rest of your week is awesome.

    1. Yes!! They are comfortable. I wore them to church and several hours after church and I had no problem. 🙂
      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  7. I love the Houzz website! When we were remodeling out master bath a few years ago, that’s where I found great ideas. Can’t wait to see how your bedroom and kitchen look.

  8. I love the styling of the DBD and the shoes are fabulous. Your BD inspiration is beautiful, but the tile feels so trendy and busy, it’s almost already dated. I like that tile in MCM homes, but not so much for traditional. However, I’m sure whatever you choose will be lovely, just like you!

  9. Cyndi, we’re getting ready to build a new house in a few months. I love using Houzz and Pinterest together to pin ideas for the new house. Not sure if I’ll get to use all my ideas but at least I have them for inspiration and have been able to use the pins to show my ideas to our contractor. I love the kitchen that you have pinned. I’m going back and forth between the cherry cabinets and some “antiqued” -but not shabby – glazed white cabinets (never thought I’d have white cabinets). Also love your spring LBD post, although I probably would have added a necklace (but that’s just me – I love jewelry too much to leave something out!)

    1. Anita if I had my choice these days, I would go with the white cabinets. There’s so many ways to decorate them and I love that it brightens up the kitchen. Have fun building that new house!!!
      Blessings,
      Cyndi

      1. Debbie, I was able to see your living rm and bathroom on houzz. I love both of them. What do you call the finish on the bathroom cabinets? Thanks!

  10. Love the shoes you’re wearing with your LBD! I can’t believe I made it to the Houzz party before you because I’m late most of the time. It’s a great site for inspiration.

    1. It’s an addiction, I love scrolling through Houzz! So many incredible spaces! Hope you have a great week Bertie.

      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  11. A little black dress is a must in a woman’s wardrobe! I really like the one you’re wearing and those shoes are great!!
I discovered Houzz a few years ago, when we remodeled our kitchen. Isn’t it awesome the thousands and thousands of pictures you can look at?! We’re going to redo our family room this summer. The tv is going to be mounted over the fireplace, but will be enclosed in a custom built cabinet. I love home improvement projects!! Looking forward to seeing pictures of yours, Cyndi!

  12. Love the dress with those shoes! Yes, I frequent the Houzz website 😉 looking forward to your home updates/changes. Thx for sharing them with us. Have a blessed day.

  13. Cyndi, the black dress with those heels looks great! I love it! And I have become obsessed with Houzz. It is definitely addicting. Like potato chips. (What about eating potato chips WHILE looking at Houzz? Bliss.) So excited to see your house updates… especially that kitchen backsplash! I bet it’ll look great. Good luck with the renovations. Hope all goes smoothly.
    Have a great week!
