10 Fall Wardrobe Essentials

10 Fall Wardrobe EssentialsIt’s that time of year when I start looking at my fall wardrobe essentials and see what pieces I need to replace.

I try to buy quality pieces that will last more than one season but every few years, I usually have to buy a few new things. This year I’m going to have to purchase a new trench coat, mine has seen better days!

These are the pieces that you can mix and match and wear with trendy pieces or just add some cute accessories and voilà, you are ready to go!

Beauty For the Heart~~I have always liked the quote from C.S. Lewis about integrity, “Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.”

Scripture also talks about integrity.

Declare me innocent, O Lordfor I have acted with integrity; I have trusted in the Lord without wavering. Put me on trial, Lord, and cross-examine me. Test my motives and my heart. For I am always aware of your unfailing love, and I have lived according to your truth. Psalm 26:1-3

Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out. Proverbs 10:9

The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity. Proverbs 11:3

Let’s be women of integrity, whether we’re at home alone or we’re around a hundred people. Christ deserves our best.

Have a blessed day!

  1. I have everything on your list. I live in Texas too and rarely need a trench coat . I used sweaters and ponchos usually and a down puffer coat on very chilly days. The one item I would add is black leggings. I have 4 in black and two in gray and one in burgundy. They are so comfy with a long cardigan and booties. Totally love the army green military jacket. I grab it when I am on the go.

  2. Great list! Yes, I do have all of these, now that I just ordered that fabulous trench. Thank you! For my essentials, I just swap the pumps for booties and add a Fall handbag and scarf. I’ve come a long way since last year when I first found your site via Pinterest. 🙂

  3. For me, something in a gorgeous green that makes my eyes glow. I think everyone needs a cashmere sweater (or tee shirt, vest, jacket, etc.) in their most flattering or favorite color. At the time of year when tans fade and the world shifts to the beautiful colors of fall I believe having a color that makes you feel beautiful and happy to wear is a necessity. I also like to add a scarf (all right, several) in new patterns or combinations of colors for the season to my mix of basics.

  4. I am not a big fan of the skinny jean look, but it’s because, while I’m a small size 8, I’m a bit “hippy” and feel that they emphasize that, I prefer a wide leg because they seem to add balance from the hip down, but I struggle to find them, so am hoping they will become more popular this year.

As for leopard print, I bought a very cute pair of light leopard print “skinny jeans” (haha) last year and since having lost a few pounds I plan on wearing them with a black boyfriend sweater and black boots this fall/winter, they are a subdued print and so not tacky, very cute!

I’m new to your blog, but am already really enjoying it, Thank You for the great tips and ideas 🙂

  5. I bought two pair “skinny flare” jeans at white house black market last year and i love them! (I am not skinny!) I know flares are not for everyone, but I am a petite apple and they work for my body type. Glad to see they will be in this season.

  6. Hi Cyndi,
Thank you for the list… I already have some of these items and can’t think of any to add to the list.. I did add your flats (which I already have in black, but could use a leopard pair), and also added the Vest from Lesley. That is a good idea.
Yes, we all need integrity… I love quotes from C.S. Lewis!
Thank you for this wonderful blog!

  7. Look forward to your blog everyday! Great fashion tips. I especially love the daily inspiration, always what I need to hear. Your style of writing is such that I feel you are my friend. Thank you Cyndi!

      1. Cindi where do I order the brown boots? Could not locate a link to their source. Thanks, love your style ideas!

  8. I love my leopard flats. I wear them in place of brown flats with all sorts of pieces. They make me smile. I also love my black peacock in place of a trench coat. I live in Texas and rarely need a coat but I own plenty of sweaters.

  9. A perfect list! I would only add one item – a vest. Puffy, military, faux fur, anything! It’s a great layer when mornings are chilly but afternoons warm up. And it can add a dash of polish to your outfit, just like that trench can. Love your blog!

  10. Love beauty for the heart. I want a trench coat but don’t want to spend a lot as I don’t wear that much. Any suggestions, ladies? I saw a cute one in ad by Jacquelyn Smith from Kmart but when I went online I could not find it.

    1. you ought to check out second hand/resale stores… Since they are expensive and not worn often you can usually come across one at a great price. I have found a tan and a gingham black/ white one, which I get compliments on every time I wear it.

  11. GREAT list!! With your boot suggestion, I would say a tall pair and a couple of short boot styles, maybe one with a tassel. Also add in there a great hand bag – thanks for all your great suggestions, Cyndi!! Blessings to you today!

  12. Thank you for reminding us the importance of integrity in all aspects of our lives!

Regarding the fall fashions, I know that I don’t have a trench coat. My fall clothes are in the attic, so I’m not sure what all I’ll find. Like one of the other ladies, I have a hard time getting rid of clothes I no longer wear. Because our future home is very small with limited closet space, I am starting to thin out the quantity of pieces I have., but it’s so hard to do! We will be living in small town America, in the woods, so I won’t have the need for many trendy things. I definitely like different styles of jeans!

    God bless!

  13. I have a good many of the basics, but I do not have the striped tee, the dark jeans, or the trench coat. I am not crazy about the way that I look in stripes and I particularly do not care for the way that I look in a trench coat. Other than that, I believe that I am set. Thanks for all the wonderful tips; you are a real day-brightener!

  14. Yes and amen to being a woman of integrity. Thank you for sharing the verses and C S Lewis quote.

I so appreciate this list of fall basics. It is not so many that it is overwhelming. I like the Caslon long sleeve t shirt. Not sure what color to choose. I am loving the teal and chili colors though they are not neutrals and would be less versatile.

Thank you so much for your blog Cyndi!

    Blessings,

    Beth

    1. Beth, I own that same long-sleeved tee in multiple colors and they are amazing! They hold up well to washing, are incredibly soft, and make a great base for layering, especially in cooler months. I continue to be amazed at the amount of quality these deliver for the price. I guess the only caveat is that they are pretty sheer in the lighter colors; not a problem for me since I usually layer them, but just in case you wanted to order them. Hope that’s helpful!

      1. Thank you so much for your helpful comment and information. I really appreciate it. I usually wear skinny jeans so I will probably have to find something longer to wear over them.

        Have a blessed day!

        Beth

  15. I have issues with getting rid of clothes that just don’t work and also buying too many trendy tops that I get tired of. Your list is going to be my guide!
