Makeup Trends Fall 2015

Makeup Trends
This time of year I get antsy about wanting to change my makeup routine. I like to get a makeover and see some of the new colors for fall.

Now to be honest, I just tweak a few products. I’m at the age where I don’t like crazy, trendy makeup. Although truthfully, I have never been one to wear crazy, trendy makeup.

This summer I have been wearing Speak Your Mind by Bare Minerals lip color. It’s pink and I would like to change my lip color for fall. I would also like a new blush color.

I want to try this clay palette by Tarte. I’m not sure if that blush will look good on my olive skin but we’ll see.

Tarte
I have been wearing Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Mascara. I love this mascara, it’s formulated WITHOUT: Parabens, Sulfates, and Phthalates.

Okay, let’s touch on Makeup Trends Fall 2015. What they showcase on the runways is not what most of us will wear. We want a beauty routine that is easy to recreate at home.

  • Plum or Wine color lips-I am not a fan of dark lip color. Dark colors can age us but if you love a dark color, I would try a plum color. (A good rule of thumb for lipstick is to find a tone that matches the inner lip or gums.)

  • Bronze Eyeshadow-The key for women our age is to use a matte bronze eyeshadow. Anything with glitter or sparkles will accentuate the lines around our eyes.
  • Long, Twiggy-like eyelashes (doll-like fringe eyelashes)-This one is not easy for anyone who doesn’t have long eyelashes. I think the key is to wear mascara and curl your eyelashes to help them look as full and long as possible.
  • Flushed cheeks-This seasons trend for cheeks is a hint of color that looks like you just went on a brisk wintry walk. Or for women our age, it might be what you look like right after you have had a hot flash. 🙂
  • Smokey eyes are still popular although I have never mastered the look!

I’m going to try and get a makeover in the next few days so I’ll share with you any new products I find or anything I learn.

Do you get a fall makeover? What trends in makeup are you loving this year?

Beauty For the Heart~~My heart is so heavy for the two reporters that lost their lives yesterday in a horrific way.

I can’t fathom what they went through in those few seconds and I’m so saddened their family has to see and hear the horror.

Let’s all commit to pray for the families today. Prayer is not the only thing we can do, it’s the BEST thing we can do!

True prayer is measured by weight, not by length. A single groan before God may have more fullness of prayer in it than a fine oration of great length. C. H. Spurgeon

If we learn anything from this tragedy, it’s that we are not guaranteed tomorrow, so enjoy today and tell those you love, how much you love them!

  1. I love new makeup for the fall as well, but i always revert back to my neutral palette. I have red-ish hair (from a bottle) and blue eyes, so browns are great on me, especially at 47. But for as little as $3-7 you can practically make-over your whole look with a new lipstick. I just bought Too Faced Lip Injection color Bomb in Bigger Berry. Its a deep reddish-purple berry and will be great for fall, and the lip plumping action helps get rid of the lines when our lips are not as full as when we were younger. It was a bit pricier at $18.

  2. I always love the idea of a dark lip but just can’t love the reality of it! Looking forward to seeing your makeover, Cyndi. Have a blessed weekend… and yes, prayers for the families of those reporters. So senseless.

  3. I agree with you Cyndi! I am not much on changing my makeup look with the seasons. I usually work to find quality products in flattering colors for my skin tone. I have found that quality becomes more and more important as I age. In the case of close-to-50 skin, you do get what you pay for.

I was so sad to hear of the shocking deaths of the reporters. I will keep their families in my prayers through the next couple of days.

    Blessings,
    Shellie

  4. We vacation at Smith Mountaon Lake almost every summer, so yesterday’s tragedy hit me really hard. I have so many happy memories at Bridgewater Plaza where the shooting occurred.

I too like a classic makeup palette, but it would be fun to get a makeover and try a new lip color for fall!

  5. Cyndi,

Thank you for your acknowledgement and prayers for the family, friends, and all of us in the Roanoke area touched by this horrific tragedy.

  6. I am from Roanoke Va. We appreciate your prayers.
Yes, I enjoy trying some new fall colors. Usually I prefer to try one new thing at a time. I must say I am loyal to Estée Lauder for foundation. Love the Double Wear.

  7. So incredibly sad what happened in Virginia. We must, as a nation, do a better job addressing mental illness.
On a lighter note – I also want to try the Tarte pallet. This summer I’ve tried 2 new mascaras and didn’t like the “plastic” brush. I keep going back to L’Oreal Voluminous.

  8. Thank you such privilege to pray to king of universe!
    Always love light makeup

    Wonderful for our age!
My sister at counter there and I follow your blog daily!

  9. Praying for Roanoke and the families.
I’m a long-time Merle Norman user, and they do free makeovers. I use their cream powder base, blush rouge which is cream, and the translucent loose powder. The powder base has sunscreen in it.

I have reddish brown hair, fair skin, and dark brown eyes. For lipstick, I mostly use Revlon’s Toast of New York.. a sort of rusty rose. I have problems with eye shadow too. Right now I’m using Merle Norman’s Plum lustrous which is a little shimmery(and I know better). My eyebrows have always been thin so I use a medium brown pencil very lightly, dark brown liner, and black-brown mascara. Any suggestions?

  10. I have the “hot flash” look covered without purchasing anything! Yea for me! So funny. I look forward to seeing and hearing about your Fall makeup session.

  11. I’m curious what color eye shadow you use Cyndi. I too have brown hair and eyes but have light complexion. I wear a dark denim blue which is old fashioned I know. I need to try someone else but never like the way other colors look on me.

  12. I see you are recommending ANOTHER mascara. I just got the “yountique” you talked about this summer. Which do you like best and why? Sherry

    1. Oh I love the Younique 3D Fiber lashes! Is that what you’re talking about. I use that with regular mascara.
You can use it either way.
      Blessings,
      Cyndi

  13. We never know when our lives may end… I’m sure that young man and woman would have never even considered losing their lives in such a tragic way could ever happen to them. The woman is slightly older than my daughter and I felt sick when I realized how her parents must feel – I truly cannot imagine my life without her. Praying for comfort and healing for all.

As far as makeup…no sparkly anything :-), no dark lip color, nothing orangey – and a lighter hand is better than looking over-done. I work with someone who wears a very dark lip-liner and nude lip color – so 80’s and not good. I would love to take her along on a “make-over” day because she is such a pretty woman but her makeup gives her a hard appearance. I just don’t know how to suggest it without offending her . At 51 I find I wear what looks good on me and while I see the trends, most aren’t for me.

  14. Cyndi, I too am saddened for the families of the young people that were murdered yesterday. Breaks my heart and you are right, prayer is the best thing we can do for these families. I was amazed that Alison Parker’s father and boyfriend were even standing last night, but they were speaking on TV. That truly showed tremendous strength. I know a lot of prayer has already been received. We serve such an awesome God!
I don’t usually get makeovers, but it’s fun ever so often. I do think the smokey eye looks great on dark eyes especially. I agree with the “no sparkle” eye shadow, on some of us over 40. I’m actually 52, so anywho…it doesn’t look good, girls!
God Bless and have a Great Day!

  15. Praying for those families in their loss…so tragic.

I have already been trying some new fall palettes for Fall, it’s fun to experiment. I agree that dark lip colors and sparkly shadows/blush are not the best options at our age. Some things just are better left on the younger gals and we shouldn’t be “stealing” their glamour! As we age the last thing we need is flashing, glittery lights accentuating our flaws! 😉

  16. I splurged on the Showstopper palette and am loving it. It’s my 1st ever Tarte product (I’m a longtime Mary Kay wearer). I think those colors would work for you. They are very pigmented so it won’t take much – tap your brush for sure:)

Am joining many others in prayer for victims of yesterdays’ tragedy.

    1. I just got the taste showstopper palate as well and am loving it. I have a tan this year so the blush doesn’t show so well, but I know it will in the fall and winter months to come.

I think you should get the palate Cindy! The eyeshadows are gorgeous in it!

Praying for the victims’ families as well.

  17. Thank-you for the prayers for the families of Alison and Adam of WDBJ7. I live in Roanoke and was watching the news when this happened at 6:45am. Our community has been so terribly saddened and truly shaken to the core. We know, however, that God is still on His throne and that He will comfort those whose lives were shattered yesterday.

    1. Here in metro Atlanta we are praying for y’all! All of our local TV stations did a great job honoring the lives lost. One of the stations did a very nice memorial before the 11 p.m. news, and suggested that we focus on all the good the two people did instead of the tragic ending. God bless y’all!

      1. Thanks so much Ginger. It’s been amazing at the outpouring of love and prayers from all over the country! Such a blessing.

  18. What waterproof eyeliner do you recommend? I am looking for a really REALLY good one for two reasons. One my eyes slightly tear up constantly during this time of year due to allergies. And second, my daughter is getting married in a few months and we all know how that goes ha!

So far I haven’t found one that will stay on. Please help! 😉 thanks!!

    1. I’m curious what others recommcnd, but I would try a gel eyeliner. I always have to go waterproof due to contacts. I use one by E.L.F., but L[oreal apparently makes a good one. It takes practice to apply, but now i just love it. It will even stay put on the waterline.

      1. I have permanent eye liner. I am 55 and had it done about 7 years ago. I LOVE it! I never have to worry about it wearing off or being even. I have big hazel color eyes and she used a blue/black color. I highly recommend it!

  19. I am interested in where you get a makeover. I’m never sure what is a good option, so would love your thoughts!

    1. Diane, Just a suggestion…Sephora is a nice place to get a makeover and try out new products, colors and trends. If you have them concentrate on one area only such as eyes or foundation/blush it’s usually complimentary. You can request a full makeover for what I feel is a nominal fee. I would like to hear where Cyndi and others get their makeovers as well.

      1. Diane, If you have a Nordstrom close by, they will give you a makeover for free during the week and charge a fee (reimbursed if you buy products) on the weekend).

      2. i agree with you Nancy. They have a good selection of makeup in different price ranges. which is always nice

    2. Diane, I have an appointment on Saturday at Bare Minerals . I love their makeup. I have very sensitive skin and these products do not bother me. It’s so much fun! Do yourself a favor…schedule a fall makeover

    3. I go to Sephora they like for you to make an appointment, you can do it online. I have also had them at Bobbi Brown and Mac.
      Hope that helps!
      Cyndi

  20. Praying for those families and friends that lost their loved ones! What a tragic loss. May God comfort them and surround them.

  21. I have been using the Tarte Clay Palette for a couple months now. Love it!!! I too was worried about the blush color. I use a small amount of Jane Iredale Foundation powder (didn’t care for it as my foundation but wasn’t going to toss since it’s a bit pricey) as my finishing powder and it sets everything nicely (toning down the blush just a bit). I also use the dark shadow (all the way on the right) in the palette as my eye liner. I also use the Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 mascara.

  22. Praying for those families, so tragic………
Good idea to get a makeover it never hurts to see and try a different color combo or brand…it’s hard to find matte anything these days…….but you got me thinking…..it might be “time”!
