Blessings In The Midst Of Our Pain

May God be gracious to us and bless us andIt seems each week when I write on Sundays, I share about the pain and suffering we experience in this life.

Partly, because I have experienced pain and suffering but also because my husband and I are in ministry, and people share a lot of their sufferings with us.

Most of the time when we receive a call or a text it’s not when a family is experiencing great joy, it’s when the bottom has dropped out and they are asking for prayer.

I know that life is not easy but I think it’s important for us to see blessings in the midst of our pain.

One of the things I have shared with you all before is how my Mom looked for blessings in the midst of her battle with terminal cancer.

Mom found blessings everywhere. Cards from friends and loved ones were blessings. The sun shining was a blessing. When people brought food for us to eat that was a blessing.

Everyday Mom found something that caused her to see blessings.

I’m wondering today, if you have had a difficult week. Are you struggling to find good in your circumstances?

Why not look for blessings today! Write them down each day and see that God is faithful even when life is hard.

This song by Shane and Shane is beautiful but the words spoken during the song are powerful. This is worth listening to!

  1. What an amazing platform God has given you Cyndi. No one wants to go through pain, unfortunately, or I guess, may be depending on the way you look at it, fortunately this is sometimes how God uses us. God Bless, may God keep you close to him.

  2. Wow!!!! Talk about blessings……. Didn’t the lord smile and bless this lad with a kiss on the throat……. Absolutely beautiful voice. I enjoy singing and am a sucker for top notch vocals…. A beautiful voice will send me a balling……tears of joy ; not pain:)…….I’m crying right now…… Thanks for sharing! God Bless !

  3. Last weekend, my son’s car was rear-ended and totaled while it sat in his dorm parking lot. We have spent the week going back and forth with the insurance and campus police. Naturally, we have struggled with the “unfairness” of it all, but I am very mindful of God’s blessings! It was our son’s car that was damaged, not our son…material things come and they go, but nothing could replace him in our lives. So, I will hold to that and keep that special blessing front and center.

    Thanks for your encouragement Cyndi,
    Shellie

  4. A very timely word. I’m a single parent and tired of the struggle of being constantly in debt, my income going down, hanging in there healthwise. I get very disillusioned, my mind definitely becomes my battlefield. But thank you for your words, and the song following made me weep as I remember the childlike faith I had years ago. I need to remember that ‘this pain is working for me an eternal weight of glory’ and even though my hope was lost 10 years ago when my husband left, I want to regain it and rise above my circumstances with a view of eternity instead of ‘the now’.

  5. I started a gratitude journal on mother’s day this year. What an awesome way it has been to start my morning! Thanks for this blog post!

  6. Amen!! Ladies, I highly recommend the movie, War Room. It was powerful, inspiring, and entertaining! The theater was packed and I loved the applause a few times during the movie and at the end!

    Jesus Is Lord!!!

  7. What a high privilege God has given to you to minister to others and point them to Christ in their deepest hour of need! God miraculously spared my life nearly 8 years ago and since that time, I’ve looked for God’s blessings each and every day. Each and every day is a gift from God both in the good and in the difficult. I’m grateful He allowed me to live and experience His hand of blessings all around me! Truly we have hundreds, if not thousands each and every day…we just need to look for them! God bless you Cyndi!

  8. we have to keep our eyes on Him and know He has things under control and remember the things in the past that He has used for good just as the Word promises.

My daughter is going through her husband’s newest diagnoses and the 8 wks of 5 das a week therapy for late stage prostate cancer while regular treatment and testing for another totally unrelated cancer for which there is no cure just palliative care. and that cancer is the same form she lost her beloved nana to. it is a challenge to see one we love going through it as well as trying to be there for her to lean on.

but they both know the Lord as their savior

  9. Cyndi,
I read your post and listened to the song, then I began to cry. Between reading the other ladies’ comments and thinking about the waiting to get scheduled for a MRI of my liver sometime in the next couple of weeks, I realized that I’ve been overwhelmed with working full-time and trying to run to doctor’s appointments. I’ve got to turn it over to Him and let Him handle it for me!

    1. Barbra,
I have been in your shoes and you are right on track. Turn everything over to God and let Him carry you through! I battled breast cancer over the past two years and I too had to turn it over to God. He was faithfully by my side the entire journey and thankfully brought me safely through. His strength and support are mighty! I will keep you in my prayers that you can feel His strength during your journey.

      Your sister in Christ,
      Kelly

    2. We have no control over what lies in our future-it is one of life’s most humbling realizations. Even when experiencing dire illness (my MRIs and CT scans revealed terrible things to me) there are beacons of hope, the greatest of which is love. Gods love, the love of caregivers, family and friends will surround you. You are in my prayers as well and though my tests were not what I hoped for my healing IS practically miraculous. Hope, peace and healing to you.

  10. Love your blog, Cyndi. I also like that on Sunday you concentrate on the spiritual. Look forward to your fall fashions with Jo-Lynne.

  11. As I’m laying here trying to get the energy to go to church I am thankful for my healing doctors (I had surgery to remove my cancer this week), and I am thankful for blogs like yours that remind us things will get better and give us something to look forward too. I love your fashion posts and look forward to your posts daily.

  12. A friend told me that gratitude is a powerful weapon against despair. This is a timely reminder for me. I could allow myself to be overwhelmed with serious trials that my family is facing or force myself to think about what is working and what is going well and what is right in our lives.

Philippians 4:8, ” Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, praiseworthy, think about such things.”

“Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
    1 Thessalonians 5:18

Blessings to you and your husband and thank you for your ministry.

    Beth

  13. You are so right Cyndi, life is full of blessings, even during our darkest hour. Over the years I have learned to look on the bright side, but it’s not always an easy thing to do.

Today I ask for prayers for the family of 60 year old Gregory Murrey, of Alpharetta, GA. He fell from the upper deck to the lower deck, during the Braves game at Turner Field last night. The media has not released the details surrounding this tragic accident, but have said he died at the hospital within a few hours. We also need to pray for everyone that witnessed this horrific event.

    Have a blessed day!

      1. Yes, Mary it is very sad! It was hard enough watching the coverage on TV. They said it was during the 7th inning and the game continued on. I can’t imagine what the people are dealing with that saw the man fall. A medical doctor was sitting close by and began chest compressions until proper authorities arrived. Some of the eye witnesses said he landed on his head.

    1. Sending prayers from Texas for the Murrey family and all who witnessed this tragic event. Taking Cyndi’s post to heart and hoping that there will be a blessing in the midst of even this.

  14. There is pain and struggle in so many areas in life these days. Focusing on the good things in life (the glass half full thoughts) is helpful and knowing He is there to lift you up offers much comfort. My Dad has Dementia Alzheimer’s ……….it’s an emotional roller coaster. For the time being he is happy which is a blessing.

Blessings and thank you for your post.
