Storms in Our Life

when-the-storm-comesWe all know how quickly storms in our life can come, but remember storms never last forever.

As I was reading my scripture this morning I read Psalm 107: 28-30, Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress. He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven.

No matter what storms in life come our way, Jesus can calm the storm.

I had written some notes in my Bible about life storms.

  • Storms are inevitable! We all have them and we need to be prepared by spending time with the One who can help us.
  • Storms are unpredictable. One day everything can be sunny and perfect and the next day we have a crisis. So where do we turn?
  • Storms are impartial. He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. Matthew 5:45
  • Storms build our strength. I don’t know about you but the times I’ve grown the closest to Christ are through the storms. The storms in my life have changed me and made me realize how much I need Jesus.
  • We need to be in the boat with Jesus. Okay, we know storms will come so the best place to be is with Him. Maybe the boat doesn’t seem safe to us but if Jesus is there that’s right where we need to be.

I don’t like the storms but I know it’s a part of this journey and I choose to face them with Jesus.

Are you facing any storms today? How do you handle life storms?

I thought this was a cute song by Francesca Battistelli. Enjoy!

  1. I must say that God is speaking loud and clearly to me through you. I have been going through a storm and yesterday I cried out to him “Lord, help me. I am drowning”. I was lead to read Luke 8:22-25. I did not know about this verse in Psalms. Your post is proof that He is with me.

    1. Love this song…another great uplifting and upbeat song with a similar powerful message is Jason Gray “GLOW IN THE DARK”….can’t get enough of it right now!!!😄

  2. Love that song! I think it’s so true that we all need to be honest… Real… and transparency during struggles helps me and it helps you…. We draw strength from one another and by sharing our stories we “infuse” one another with courage, hope and by that strengthen each other! This is why I believe we all need to share our stories, our testimonies! To show how mighty our God is, how much he loves us, His Grace & Mercy and how nothing is impossible with Him! praise Him that even our storms serve a purpose!!

Thank you for always sharing about our Wonderful Savior! I love your blog, and I share it with my friends nearly every time I get a comment on my outfits! 😃

    Blessings! Joni

  3. My prayers are with you today Ginger. God has tested you through storms in the past and is testing you right now. Sometimes we only think of God as being with us through the storms and helping us to conquer our fears. We forget that sometimes God tests us during storms to give us the ability to prove our faith in Him, and even though it seems He is no where to be found, He gives us the ability to pray and find the blessed assurance that He, in fact has always been right beside us. I pray for the kind of courage, strength and comfort that only our Lord can bring. God bless you and your sweet Mother.

  4. Praying for you Laura! God is with you & we have the assurance that He will not leave us! I pray your little one feels better as well.
Thank you for a wonderful post today. It is so true for me as well that during my hardest times I felt God’s mighty presents with me. Safe travels today!

  5. I love your blog! Both the fashion side and the biblical side. They go hand in hand. The song is perfect and beautiful too. I love Francesca Battistelli. She has such wonderful lyrics.
Thank you and God continue to bless you through your gifts you continually give to your readers.

  6. Love her! Previously, when I started hearing her on the radio, I always thought it was Carrie underwood!! 😉 thanks for sharing!
    Have a good day!!

  7. Cyndi, I have no doubt tha God led you to write this post today. This is day 6 of my mom being in the hospital. While her oxygen level is no longer in the danger zone and her bad lungs have improved, Sundowners Syndrome has taken its toil on her frail body. Earlier today she told me that she had rather die than live like she’s been living. I told her that the doctors and nurses will help her to feel better, but if she is really ready to give up, I will let her go, even though I don’t want too. This isn’t the first time I’ve been through this with my mom and it probably won’t be the last. I HAVE TO rely on my faith and prayer so that I can face another day.

    God bless!

    Safe travels back to KY!

    1. Praying for you today Ginger. I have walked down the path you are walking. Rely on your faith, encourage your mom where she is today, and rest. I commit to praying for you and your mom daily.
      Blessings,
      Debbie

      1. Thank you very much Debbie! When I started to leave the hospital today, once again mom said she had rather die. I told mom that when her body gets more sleep, she will feel better, and that I’d see her tomorrow. Her response was, ” we’ll see what God has to say about that.” I replied, ” we both know that He is in control.”

        1. Good Morning Ginger,
I’m sorry to take so long to reply but I did pray for you yesterday throughout the day. The things you are telling me about your mom bring back so many memories. It will be two years on Jan. 29 since my mom passed away. She had Alzheimer’s among other things. She would tell me that she wanted to die and it would break my heart. It does sound like Sundowners and depression. Sometimes, I wasn’t sure my mom really knew what she was saying. She would get frustrated with me if I tried to cheer her up and I would leave her room distraught and crying. So…I do understand. I truly do. Do you have family that helps you? I am your sister in Christ and am here for you if you need to talk or have questions. Just a thought for you: I bought a dry erase board and some markers. I took it to every hospital or nursing home room. Every night, I would write an encouraging scripture verse on it and sometimes draw flowers or whatever I felt like. I left it there for her to read. I’m not sure who it helped more, her or me but it may be something you consider doing. It also started some interesting conversations with nurses, techs, etc. it gave me an opportunity to share my faith and listen to some of their stories which took my mind off my worries for awhile. Maybe it would help you. I will leave you with a scripture that I lean on a lot. “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”
          Isaiah 41:10
          Debbie

  8. Love this post …I also stand firm and this comes to mind –
    God is my Anchor !
We cannot control the wind …
but we can direct the sail !!!!!
    Hebrews 6:19
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.
It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain,

    Thanks Cyndi!!!!

  9. This post was spot on today, Cyndi. Through the past months I have grown much closer to God and without Him, I don’t know how I would have coped. Somedays I have felt so alone in my husband’s cancer journey and I know God is with us every step. The song I have heard that it so close to my heart now is “Just be Held” by Casting Crowns. Have a good Sunday.

    1. Gail, that was the song that I held on to when our son was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer. My prayers are with you, your husband and our son. God holds the hearts of the broken-hearted in the palm of His hand.

  10. I wanted to be in worship this morning, but I’m home with a sick child. Tomorrow I face major surgery, my first surgery ever. I have a lot of anxiety. Your post was very timely indeed. The Lord has carried me through many storms in life, but it’s not always easy to rest in that knowledge.

    1. Laura, I am praying for peace for you and for a successful surgery.
Praying that you will know the peace that passes all understanding in a
      unique way.

    2. Laura, I prayed for you as well. Prayed all goes well with the surgery, guidance for the medical team and your little one to get better! Blessings to you.

    3. Good luck tomorrow .. By Tuesday surgery will be behind you… I too am a worrier especially before surgery or something medical, such wasted energy but not worrying is easier said than done .. Try to rest your mind… Prayers for peace and speedy recovery coming your way

    4. Laura, I too, just said a prayer for you, asking God to give you Peace that only He can give. When you start getting anxious, stop right then and ask God to calm your nerves. He’s got this! Let your faith get you thu this. It will be a thing of the past in no time and you’ll be on your way to recovering. I am being led to share one of my surgical experiences with you. On 12/21/2007, I underwent brain surgery to remove three tumors from my pituitary gland, for Cushings Disease. I was not one bit scared going into that surgery. I never thought about the reality that I could die on the operating table or how serious the surgery was. I just turned it all over to God and knew that what would be, would be. Trust me, my faith and my walk with God wavers and I know I fail Him often. But, I also know that I am a born again Christian and that God loves me Just As I Am, and He will never fail me.

    5. Breath in the moments with your family today, hold them tenderly. You are covered in prayer sweet lady and as we are all saying to you…..hold close to your savior.
      Praying for you!

    6. Praying for you Laura. Deuteronomy 31:8 says, “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” I clung to this verse at a very trying time in my life. He is SO faithful Laura. He loves you so much! I will be praying you trust in Him and feel His presence and peace that only He can bring. God bless you sister 😉

    7. Laura we are praying for you as you have surgery tomorrow. I pray you will feel peace tomorrow morning and that your surgery goes well.
      Cyndi

      1. Thank you! I’m just now seeing your reply. Surgery was more extensive than planned, but I’m six days out now and recovery is going along pretty well. God gave me so much grace on the day of surgery. So much peace. I was and still am in awe.
