Freedom In Christ

Freedom In Christ

This past week, my husband preached about freedom in Christ. John 8:36 says, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

An older woman came up to him after his sermon and said for the first time in her life, she has finally been set free from her past sins.

Why do we hang on to past sins? I did this for years until I finally realized, I am not defined by my past sins.  And guess what? Neither are you!

If the son has set us free then we are free and we need to live victoriously. “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1 (NIV)

We are all broken and wounded. That’s why we need a Savior. We are guilty but because of His sacrifice we are pardoned!

This song is a newer version of Just As I Am and I love the chorus.

I come broken to be mended
I come wounded to be healed
I come desperate to be rescued
I come empty to be filled
I come guilty to be pardoned
By the blood of Christ the Lamb
And I’m welcomed with open arms
Praise God, just as I am

Have you let past sins stop you from living a victorious life?

  1. Thank you Cyndi! . . . . There is no perfection, only beautiful versions of brokenness. Listen to God with a broken heart. He is not only the doctor who mends it, but also the Father who wipes away the tears.

  2. As always Cyndi, a powerful and very meaningful message–until right now I have carried my past around like a weight around my neck. After reading this, I now know that I can give it to GOD and he will show me how to quit blaming me for my past.

    Blessings!

  3. Beautifully said! Only recently did I realize that if I continue to mentally beat myself up over past sins, then I am diminishing the power and love of Jesus. How dare I even think of doing that, right? Knowing I am forgiven is peace, pure peace…

  4. Thanks for this, Cyndi. One of the ways I receive a blessing from your blog is that
God often gives you just the right words at just the right time…

  5. Thank you Cyndi for the reminder. Many times I feel that I am not totally forgiven; but I know this is not true. He knows that I with him and he with me during my life journeys. Without feeling forgiven it is difficult to grow spiritually. That chorus was beautiful

  6. I always look forward to the worship songs you include with your uplifting words. Thank you so much for sharing!

  7. I, too, deal with this daily. I have a bipolar parent who has hurt me and my family deeply. I have had to step away from the relationship due to past situations. I have made an extra effort to let my children know how special each of them is to me. My hope is that I am forgiven for having to step away in order to prevent the hurt from happening over and over again.

    1. Same here – Bipolar mother I had to cut out of my life many years ago. Saying a prayer for you. It is difficult and I feel guilty, but feel like I’m protecting my kids from her by keeping her out of our lives.

  8. Thank you for today’s message. Just what I needed to hear and remember. Love your blog and your style. Look forward to it every day. Bless you!

  9. Good morning Cyndi
I have come to read your blog before I attend church on Sundays because it inspires me to never give up the fight. There is always hope and the good Lord is always walking right beside us if not carrying us in his loving arms.
You seem have a kind soul. Thank you for including in your blog words of inspiration everyday. Have a blessed day!

  10. Thank you for your encouragement. I think as humans, it’s hard to grasp and totally understand God’s love, mercy, and grace. Thanks for the reminder.

  11. Good morning I am headed out to church and read your post. I think it is the devil setting on our shoulder reminding us of what we have done wrong he is out enemy. Praise the Lord we are forgiven! And God Loves you very much! God commended His Live toward us that while we were yet sinners Christ yfor us
