The last few weeks have been hard with shootings from Isis and then to hear of a two year old boy being killed in Orlando by an alligator. I can’t make sense of all the tragedies.
I love this quote by Charles Spurgeon, “To trust God in the light is nothing, but trust him in the dark–that is faith.” Do we trust him?
I’m also reminded of what Mom told me before she died, “I don’t always understand God but I trust Him.”
So in the midst of chaos and tragedies, let remember:
- God is trustworthy!
Sovereign Lord, you are God! Your covenant is trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant. 2 Samuel 7:28
- God will never leave us!
Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. Psalm 9:10
- God’s love never fails!
But I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have rescued me. Psalm 13:5
- Christ is Our Hope!
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
Therefore, don’t lose heart, trust Him!
This song is about Ezekiel 37:1-14 and it’s one my husband’s favorite passages in scripture. We need to rise up and come alive!! (Lauren Daigle is one of my favorite singers.)

I love that song. 🙂 Another one from her same album talks about trusting “When You don’t move the mountains…” I’ve listened to them repeatedly. The challenge is to believe that God is all good and all powerful when circumstances are dark and feel hopeless.
Yes, the tragedies have been unimaginable. I can’t imaging the horror the parents at Disney went through trying to save their son and the anguish they continue to go through. What a burden to bear. I pray they have faith. Although I don’t think the shooting in Orlando was deemed directed by or “from Isis” it was still a terrible, senseless tragedy. Hopefully we won’t too soon forget these.
Thank you! This was exactly what I needed this morning. Right now, my children are two prodigals and one pastor. I am believing God that these dry bones are going to rise again! Who knows how God will use the wayward two when they surrender! Trusting Our King!
I loved reading everyone’s messages on this post today!! How powerful our sweet Lord is moving in all our lives!! So many of us are being “refined” in the refiner’s Fire!! We have to be mindful, that the trials and difficulties in our lives come directly from another source, one who is trying his best to keep us from God. He does not want us to live our ‘best’ life, and is continually putting difficulties, heartache and trials into our lives and those who we love – and all who love Christ. We do have God’s assurance and promise that He is always with us, and that God can take any and all circumstances and trials in our lives and make something wonderful out of it, because we are His sons and daughters!! We have the creator, and ruler of all the universe fighting on our behalf!

I truly think that Jesus was there with the people that died that night in the Pulse nightclub, just like He was when the Jews were killed during the Holocaust and the Twin Towers on 9-11. Jesus would not let us suffer like that without letting us know He is there to take us.
I was just thinking in church this morning, “It’s easy to have faith when everything is going well…It’s when things are not is when you know you have faith…or not.” We are tested many, many times in our life with struggles, and then our faith is tested.
The other thing I was reminded: thank Jesus when things are going well!! That’s not an accident…. Well, God never makes mistakes. I always think of that when something happens beyond my control.
SO COOL how God orchestrates things!! Got up early and loved reading your devotional…then…off to church and guest Pastor today, Jayme Montera spoke from Ezekiel 37 and it was powerful! Love when God does that!!!
I am in the middle of a very big storm right now, but I am trusting the Lord and His promises. My husband lost his job 5 years before retirement, and there are not a lot of jobs here. We listed our house, and in a short time, will be moving to Kentucky. My youngest son and daughter- in-law live close by and are youth Pastors. They are trying to start a family, so you can imagine why this is so difficult on so many levels. I know God is faithful, and He will provide. I am loving Ryan Stevenson’s “Eye of the Storm” song right now. Any prayers by sisters in Christ out there would be so much appreciated! Thank you , Cyndi for the encouragement and inspiration.
There is a story in the Bible, I think it’s the Book of Genesis about Joseph, who was sold as a slave, and endured 11 years or so in prison because he was accused of something he never did. Because he was good at interpreting dreams, he eventually became second in command to the Pharaoh of Egypt. I think the take away is that it tells us to have faith, and that if we keep believing and trying to emulate Jesus, we will be rewarded by God. Hoping all your troubles are resolved soon!
“Do we trust Him” or “is Jesus enough” are the bottom line questions, aren’t they? Thank you for pointing us to the TRUTH.
Oh Cyndi, this message is so timely, at least for me. I’ve known since January that trust was my ‘word’ or lessen for this year, but had no idea what all that would entail! I’m walking through a season of stretching that is painful… But I know if I fix my eyes on Him that I’ll come out trusting Him more, believing Him more and having a deeper faith. The message at church this weekend is about trust as well! My youngest son has joined the Army (he’s just turned 21!) and I am having such a hard time with this for so many reasons.
I also LOVE LOVE LOVE Lauren Daigle, every single one of her songs speak so deeply to me! I just bought VIP tickets to her concert in Dallas in October for me and one of my other sons! We’re so excited about that! Any song that I hear about the dry bones coming alive instantly makes me weep… Something about that story and the visual of it just makes my spirit leap!
