Summer Dress-Talbots Eyelet Shirtdress

I’m so excited to have Shannon from Gamine & Stripes guest posting for me today while I am in Cuba!! Will you all show her some love today and let her know how beautiful she looks in her Talbots eyelet dress. What I love about Shannon is not only is she beautiful on the outside but she has a beautiful heart and loves Jesus.

I’m thrilled to be guest posting for Cyndi today. When she asked me several months ago I couldn’t believe it. I was honored and humbled.

I write Gamine & Stripes, a budget fashion blog and style resource for moms in their 30’s and 40’s. My style is simple, chic, modest, and practical. I post practical, inspirational outfits for the everyday mom.

A little bit about me. I’m a pastor’s wife, mother of three, six and under, about to turn 40, and a Stitch Fix stylist. I’m a stay at home mom and work from my computer. I love reading, traveling, going to tea, and have a serious weakness for potato chips.

I love serving in my church and especially in the college and singles ministry with my husband, Adam, who is an associate pastor. We have 60+ singles from the San Francisco bay area in our home every Friday for Bible Study. I have a very blessed and full life. Here is my family.

During summer I live in dresses! It gets pretty hot in my suburban neighborhood this time of year. I’m a big fan of the LBD or LND (Little Navy Dress for those with fairer skin) and can’t get enough of them.

I saw this one in the window at Talbots over the Memorial Day weekend and had to try it on. It also comes in a gorgeous emerald color.

I love the eyelet details and longer length of the skirt. A knee length A-line cut is so flattering because it skims the hips and gracefully covers your upper legs. Also, having one color, monochromatic, on top and bottom, creates a nice long column shape and is very slenderizing – especially in a dark color like navy, grey or black.

The bodice is generous in the bust area. Unbutton the top few buttons to give you extra room but also to create an open v neckline which looks great on all chest sizes. It came with a matching belt, but I usually opt to wear my own belts with dresses or skirts to create visual interest and add my own style.

Summer Dress-Talbots Eyelet ShirtdressThis dress is well made and comes with a solid lining. It would be great for church, date night, or even the office on a casual Friday. The color black would transition well to early fall when you get tired of wearing your bright dresses or pastels, but the weather is still warm.

I’m a huge fan of mixing metals with pieces like my stacked bangle bracelet. It pulls everything together to give you a chic polished look.

Summer Dress-Talbots Eyelet ShirtdressSummer Dress-Talbots Eyelet ShirtdressThese Nadia heels from Kelly & Katie are fabulous. Sam Edleman also has a pair that look good. They are super versatile and very comfortable 3 inch heels.

I wore them for the first time to a girl’s night to the San Francisco Symphony and had no trouble wearing them on the train or walking around the city in them. The back of the heel just started to rub when we got back to the parking garage, but that’s not bad for a shoe that hasn’t been broken in yet–especially for $38 heels.

You can pair them with pants, skirts, and even shorts for a dressed up date night. The nude color goes with everything but is especially nice for elongating your legline without cutting you off at the ankle and making your legs look stumpy like other strapped heels can.

I love how Cyndi does an encouraging word at the end of her posts. Here is my beauty for the heart, it’s a famous quote from missionary and martyr, Jim Elliott:

“He is no fool who gives up what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.” There is no earthly treasure comparable to the surpassing greatness, beauty and love of Christ. Beloved Sister, may we be quick to hold fast to Him and only Him throughout all our minutes, hours and days.

Please thank Cyndi for having me on Grace + Beauty and stop by Gamine & Stripes any time. I would love to see you!

  1. Hi Shannon, It is great to meat another pastors wife… as I have been for 29 years now. We were missionaries in Italy and now are back in the United States serving our Lord in South Eastern KY. We have 4 children from 13-28 years old ! We hold Bible studies in a Firehouse on Thursdays for the folk that cannot come on Sundays. You make your little black dress look very beautiful and very feminine. God Bless you and your hubby in your ministry for the Lord.

    1. Thank you so much! I’m always delighted to meet another pastor’s wife and godly woman. Thank you for sharing. I love hearing what God is doing in other parts of the country. God bless you. xx-S

  2. What a lovely family. Greetings from NZ where it is a bitter winter’s day – wishing we were wearing lovely summer clothes.

    1. Thank you Sue. I do enjoy the weather God gives us in California! Although, cold weather fashion is probably my favorite. There is nothing more pulled together and sophisticated looking than layers. xx-S

  3. Love the coral used as an agent with the black. I think the eyelet in the black dress is so feminine.

You are a very attractive and beautiful woman🌸

    God bless,
    Barbara

  4. Shannon, you look great in that dress! I like your hairstyle too. It’s really cute and stylish. Your family is beautiful. I’m heading over to your blog now to check it out. You did a great job filling in for Cyndi today. Thanks!

I helped my son read “Through Gates of Splendor” by Elisabeth Elliot for school this past spring. Amazing story of people with extraordinary love for Christ. We need more Elliots in the world.

  5. This dress is adorable on your body type! Can you give me details on becoming a StitchFix stylist? I think I would be great with girls who are bigger up top! You may email me privately if you prefer. Thanks!

  6. I am so excited to find your blog through Cyndi 🙂 I want to be a stitch fix stylist so much but when I looked it up unfortunately they are not in our area. ( yet 🙂 ) I love your sense of style. Your dress is beautiful today. Could I have you be my stitch fix stylist? I am not sure how to switch stylist. Our sense of style is so similar I would probably keep all 5 items each month instead of 1 or 2 🙂 you are welcome to email me privately. Have a blessed day and thank you for sharing your blog

  7. Love the dress Shannon, so flattering! Cyndi is right, you are darling and your love for Christ shines through!

  8. So refreshing to have both you and Cyndy share your outfits, lives, and hearts with us. Blessings girlie!

  9. Thank you ,thank you ,thank you, Shannon ,for sharing so elegantly with all of us. Your family is precious. AND you look super !!!!! I really appreciate your heart for God as well. Great choice , Cyndi, for a “guest host!!”

  10. I also follow your blog and love the beautiful dresses you choose. What color belt would you pair with the emerald green? Also, would you wear nude heels with the green? I am still very unsure of how to pull off a polished outfit.

    1. Hi Patty, I recognize your name. 🙂 I might do a navy or black belt with the emerald green dress. You could also try a neutral natural color like the belt I wore and see how you like it. A cute (and comfy) alternative to the heel would be a wedge sandal. Thanks for following. xx-S

  11. Thank You !! for hosting for Cyndi ! I knew you were beautiful & sweet if you girls were friends. You look so cute in the dress & the shades set it off for summer. Sending Love In Christ my new friend.

  12. Just adorable! Thank you for introducing talbots. A lot of women think the styles are staid or preppy. But Talbots has incorporated today’s styles into many of their lines of clothing. I’ll check out your blog!

  13. Thanks Shannon for your guest post. You look lovely in that dress. Do you have an email sign up for your blog like Cyndi does?

It’s also a great dress for work and/or church or other social events. It can easily be dressed up or down. Thanks for having Shannon guest post, Cyndi! It’s great to see what other women are doing, too. : )

    1. Shannon I love the dress! I love eyelet in any color, but it looks especially great in the Navy! Hopefully Talbots has this dress In petites.

  21. Shannon, thanks for guest posting today. I love this dress and I love Talbots clothes. I am a regular shopper there. I was wondering about the length of the dress, which is perfect on you. If I might ask, How tall are you? That will help me judge how long the dress will be on me. I am 5’4″.

Thanks again for filling in for Cyndi.

    Janie

    1. Hi Janie, I’m just under 5.4 and the dress I’m styling was a 2 petite. I’m very small chested so you can see there was extra room in the chest area. It’s super flattering for a variety of body shapes and such a classic style. The black one is currently on sale for $64.99. I think you will be pleased with it. 🙂 xx-S

  22. What a lovely dress! You look adorable in it , as well. Those words from Jim Elliot are so true! That is one of my favorite quotes and I’ve had it displayed on my refrigerator for years!

    1. Mary, you’ll be happy to know the black dress is currently on sale for $64.99. They also have a wide vareity of sizes in that dress available. 😉 xx-S

  23. I am a follower of your blog and I am amazed at the cute dresses you find. This one looks so cute on you!

  24. Thank you for guesting! They have that dress at my local store. Yay! I often wonder why Cyndi doesn’t style more Talbots. Their pants, dresses and skirts last forever. They also have amazing sales. I enjoyed reading the summer travel post on your blog. As you all turn 40 can your blog descriptions start to include over 50??? It’s the new 40 btw;)

  25. Great post. Love the dress. I wear nursing scrubs all week but love looking at clothing ideas! You have a beautiful family; I can see that you must be very busy! And yet you find time to be a Stitch Fix stylist…..Anyway, hope Cyndi has you back again. Maybe a joint post sometime?

      1. P.S. I am quite busy…I wake up super early before the family to work for a couple hours and jump back on the compute for another 1-3 hours at night, when the kids are asleep, depending on if my husband is out running a Bible Study (he does 3), counseling, etc, 😉

  26. Beautiful — both the dress and the model! Love the quote from Jim Elliot too. I’ll be checking your site as well.

  27. Hi Shannon, love the way you styled this dress, it looks great on you! I also enjoyed your “Beauty from the Heart” have a wonderful afternoon!😊

  28. Hi Shannon, I’m from Canada and we have a Talbots up here! Yay! This dress is on sale now for $65 Canadian. I looked at the green one and love the detail on the dress. I also love your belt – it really makes the outfit pop! Thanks for filling in for Cyndi while she is away.

  29. Thank you Shannon !!! The dress is so versatile and looks great on you. I will check out your blog as well.

Cyndi, I will keep you in my prayers for safety as you are traveling.

    ~Lisa~

    1. Thank you Cheryl. I agree Talbots has great classics styles. In my opinion, classic pieces are the building blocks of good style. 😉 xx-S

  30. That dress is so classy, Shannon! I agree that using your own belts is usually best. I also have found that a colorful long scarf tied as a belt can add a pop of color to a solid dress. Your family is beautiful! Thanks for posting while Cyndi is away!

    1. Thank you Liz. I agree, a scarf worn as a belt can be a beautiful, budget friendly, and creative way to add color to your outfit. It would look great on this dress! xx-S
