Trust Him When Bad Things Happen

Trust Him When Bad Things HappenIt’s hard to believe it’s been 15 years since 9/11. I don’t think any of us will forget that day. That day changed all of us and it changed our country.

Joshua 1:9 reminds us that no matter what we go through God is with us. In the midst of tragedy He is our only hope.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

God wants us to trust him. Trust Him in this crazy, messed up world.

Trust him when bad things happen like terrorist attacks, when children are diagnosed with cancer, when a loved one passes away.

I’m reminded of what Mom told me before she died, “I don’t always understand God but I trust Him.”

So in the midst of chaos we trust Him.

  • God is trustworthy!

Sovereign Lord, you are God! Your covenant is trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant. 2 Samuel 7:28

  • God will never leave us!

Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. Psalm 9:10

  • God’s love never fails!

But I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have rescued me. Psalm 13:5

  • Christ is Our Hope!

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

We are on earth at this time in history for a reason and we each have a purpose. So don’t lose heart! Be strong and courageous, He is with us!

What do you need to trust God in today?

Have a blessed day!

  1. Thank you Cindy for your beautiful words. You always inspire me!!! Thank you for always sharing your love for God. Several months ago you mentioned you were reading the book, The Circle Maker. My small group are almost at the end of the book. What an awesome book. Thank you for recommending it. Any other great books you would like to recommend. Two friends and I meet every other week to pray and grow closer to God. We try to always read a book and share what we learned and go through the book a few chapters each time we meet. If you have suggestions of good Christian books I would love to hear.
    Thanks,

  2. As I read over the comments, it made me feel good knowing I have many sisters in Christ with feelings and concerns as I have. I am very troubled about the condition of our sweet America. We as a nation have turned our back on him. We don’t want him in our schools, our government, sporting events, etc. God on the other hand continues to love us and so much wants to be a part of our lives. I personally want to thank you for having the courage to show others you truly love and trust the Lord our God. May he bless us all.

  3. Thank you for these words today. I live in The mountains of NY, not the city but my parents were raised in the Bronx. On 9/11 I believe for a few days we all became New Yorkers. The brotherhood and humanity that people showed one another was God acting through us, how he wants us to be every day all the time! What a wonderful world it would be…

  4. Thank you for this beautifully written blog! It has caused me to remember but also to TRUST in God! He is God, even when I don’t understand.

  5. Cyndi, you are such an inspiration and model Christian for us. What an awesome post and reminder today. I’ve had to trust God in many situations throughout my life and He has never let me down..to God be the glory! I love your blog for many reasons, but especially your spiritual and faithful testimony. You are such a blessing to so many. God bless you, my friend!

  6. I thank you for today it was much needed. It makes me really stop and think what and who God puts in our life. We have such an awesome God!! 😊

  7. Thank you!
I’m a flight attendant out flying today!
Will never forgot my friends I lost
That day and how courageous they
    We’re!
Always remember God rides on clouds!

  8. This post is what we need today, and every day, so thank you Cyndi! My 40+ step-son is a fire fighter and loves what he does. They and all first responders are a very special group of people. When we turn our backs and run from tragedy, they turn and run toward it. If we see a first responder while we are out and about today, or any day, take a moment to say “thank you!” It means the world to them!

At that horrible moment I was at work, on the 14th floor, at the corporate headquarters for The Coca-Cola Company. A large group of us gathered in front of a bank of TV’s watching in disbelief, some shedding tears, gasping, and with a sick feeling in our stomachs. After a while, we were all told to go home, and stay safe. There was no way of knowing that our complex would not be next. Thinking about it still gives me chills.

    God bless America!

  9. My mom died earlier in 2001 before 9/11, and I can remember thinking as I watched all the tragedy unfold how I greatful I was that my mom was not alive to see such terrble things. She was so tender hearted, and such a loving gentle soul, it all would have broken her heart. I think we can all remember where we were, what we were doing when all of this happened. I can remember wanting to leave work and go get my daughter and just hold her tightly. Looking back I realize 2001 was a turning point in my life. I was raised in a good christian home, and I gave my life to Christ as a teenager, but 2001 was when I REALLY gave my life to Christ. When my mom was in her last couple of months of life HE was all I had. Yes, my dad was there, as was my husband, but neither could give me the comfort, the peace in my soul that I so deperately needed during that diffucutl time.
Thank you Cyndi for your blog. I don’t remember how I found you a couple of years ago but I know it was not by accident :). Have a blessed day – today and everyday!

  10. Cyndi, First of all, . I am the mother of a police officer so I want to thank-you for remembering our police officers and firefighters in prayer.

Right now I am reading a book called “Beauty Beyond The Ashes”. It is written by Cheryl McGuiness. Her husband was one of the co-pilots of American Airlines Fight 11 when it hit a Twin Towers. It is such a beautiful story.
She talks about their personal life (an amazing love story) but through out all of her sadness ( after 9/11) she knew God was with her.

“Every life endures sadness and lost but no matter what you’ve experienced or what pain you’ve suffered, God can bring you through the ashes of destruction to the beauty of life.” Cheryl Mcguinness

  11. Our future son-in-law was in the first twin tower when it was hit and managed to get out before it fell. He really gives me a new perspective on that horrible time in our nations history. We need to pray more for our first responders all over our nation. Thank you for a great reminder today and for your thought inspiring posts.

  12. Always such a very difficult day. I am from NY, born and raised, and although I do not live there anymore my roots remain and this tragedy felt like it happened in my own backyard. My husband, too, was out of the country on this day. Still very raw for me and so many. We have to continue to put our faith and trust in God now more than ever.

  13. During this most appalling tragedy I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. She turns 15 today and every year we celebrate her birthday we also remember those who so needlessly lost their lives. Thinking of them all today ❤️

  14. God bless our country, those who serve in the military and our police and fire safety forces. God is everywhere, He is good and if we have faith He is with us, we will overcome the storms. Thank you for your beautiful writings on this day in our country’s history.

  15. As I think back over the decades of my life, I see and remember dark times when I thought to myself, “How can this possibly turn out well, Lord? Why are you letting this happen?” Each and every situation turned out BETTER than I ever could have hoped or imagined! GOD HAS NEVER LET ME DOWN…GOD IS IN CONTROL…GOD IS GOOD…ALL THE TIME!

  16. Thank you Cyndi for your words today. I need this today and most days. I am going to print off this post and keep it in my journal I started a year ago when my husband was diagnosed with an agressive cancer. Every day is a blessing and I thank God every day for the time we get to spend together. I too will be praying for the families of 911, our heros in blue, our firefighters and others that help better our lives and our world.

  17. It is during our times of trial/disappointment/devastation that our faith is truly tested. Those are the times I must remind myself that God is in control and there is a purpose for what I am experiencing. It is all part of the journey. Thanks for the words of encouragement that God’s love never fails.
