Good morning! Today Jo-Lynne and I are launching a 5-part series on casual outfit for moms. Basically, it’s outfits we wear as busy moms (and in my case, a grandmother).
We’re starting off with skinny jeans, a pullover, and a scarf. That’s pretty typical of what I like to wear but we a except I typically wear boots this time of year. I also like to wear shoes with a heel.
I know many of you live in warmer states and flats work for you so I wanted to style something besides boots.
I realized when I was doing this post that I rarely wear flats but I do have a favorite pair of flats and it’s my Sam Edelman flats. I always wear these when I travel because they are so comfortable.
I purchased these Payless flats before Christmas and I wanted to style them with an outfit. They’re neutral so they pretty much go with everything.
The difficult part of styling winter outfits in January, is everything is sold out. It’s a little frustrating. My scarf is sold out online. My crewneck pullover is online in three colors (except mine). I actually love the colors they have online, bright and cheery!
I recently read that three bracelets are a good number to wear with all your outfits. They mainly said, like decorating rules, odd numbers are best. So I guess one, three, five, etc.
Some of you have asked about the curls in my hair. I’m using a curling wand and I’ll try to show some pictures of how I do it soon. It’s easy to do but I have burned my fingers a couple of times. Ha!
Well, we are definitely divided on distressed jeans. After reading your comments from yesterday’s post, some of you love them and some of you don’t! This is about as distressed as I get when it comes to jeans.
What I’m Wearing
Crew Neck Pullover(I’m wearing a medium)//Old Navy Scarf (sold out)//Skinny Jeans (I’m wearing a size 6)//Flats//Earrings//Watch (similar here)//Chain Bracelet//Kate Spade Bracelet//David Yurman Bracelet
Thank you for taking time out of your day to stop by my blog. If you don’t want to miss a post, you can sign up to receive my daily emails and you’ll never miss a thing. I’m also on Facebook, Pinterest and my favorite one, Instagram.
Beauty for the Heart~~I am not a huge fan of winter. Cold, dreary days get old quick. But this quote from Richard Foster reminds me that winter can be a season of growing.
“Winter preserves and strengthens a tree. Rather than expending its strength on the exterior surface, its sap is forced deeper and deeper into its interior depth. In winter, a tougher, more resilient life is firmly established. Winter is necessary for the tree to survive and flourish.”
Although I don’t love winter, I think I need winter. It’s a great time for me to dig deep into scripture and let my faith grow.
Colossians 2:7 says, Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.
Winter prepares me for the year ahead!
Have a blessed day!

Sorry I’m responding to this blog today, but with my hubby in the hospital since Wednesday, I’m running in and out all weekend. I LOVE juice cleanses and mix my own up and do them from a 24 hour juice cleanse to a 3 or 5 day juice cleanse. I love them, and I love this sooo cute outfit!!! God Bless.
Ms. Cyndi…I’d love to know the nail color/brand you are wearing in the photo with the pullover, scarf and skinny jeans with flats…I love it!…seen better in post of close up of your shoulder bag with your hand on it! 🙂
Cyndi, I used to get your emails but then i changed my email address and stopped receiving them. Could you please add me back to your email list using the email listed below. Thank you
I don’t see your email address. Can you tell me the one I should use??
Thanks!
Cyndi
Enjoy your blog. I need to start wearing flats with business casual attire. Any idea on great pants for work that look great with flats?
Sorry about the frustration with the emails… Just for feedback, today’s is the first one in a long time that came directly to my inbox. 🙂
Whole outfit looks great and classie. The back ground looks very pretty. Thanks for sharing!!
Cyndi , I love the casual outfit and can’t wait for more , I have been getting your emails since this past fall and I have gotten them all . Thank you so much for taking the time to do your blog , because of you I have become more fashionable and concentrating on being more Godly, I really like all the quotes , scripture and songs . Now that your hair is getting longer how are you getting it cut now , I really like it . Thank you again !!!!!!
I’m anxious to hear more about the cleNse. Are you doing a one day? Can’t wait to read about your thoughts. I’m considering a one day purchase.
I receive all your emails. Always appreciate the time you take to do it. As we are HOT summer here in OZ , lol. It still gives me ideas for winter. God Bless you greatly.
What a super cute outfit although I can’t wear flats for long periods of time. Your scarf looks “cheery” even if we are in the dead of winter. I went to ON site and they must be out of the crew neck color you are wearing. I hope we can follow you on your “cleanse” as maybe that will help those of us that have never done one understand it a little more.
I really appreciate these casual outfits for moms. Thank you!
Beth
Every time you post an outfit with the Thalia Crossbody I swoon.
Just recently signed up for your blogs. Your outfits are very trendy and good for us over 50 ladies who are looking for more classic look. Enjoy seeing them everyday.
Thanks Dianne!!
Thank you for the inspiration in both soul and style today! It’s been super helpful to me before when you’ve posted “I’m wearing a _____” size when you give the links to each of your outfit items. I have a gift card for Old Navy (would you believe I’ve had it for 3 years!), and I’m really interested in the darling sweater in today’s post. I’d really appreciate knowing what size you chose. Thanks SO much for a great blog post!
I completely forgot to add that info. I am wearing a medium in the sweater from Old Navy.
Sorry about that,
Cyndi
I love winter because it forces me to slow down and just be. I love your styling and am glad for this series. I work from home but still want to look good just for the mental boost it gives me.
I wound up subscribing to your blog in part because you said you where a bit bottom heavy. I am very bottom heavy and have been looking for styling to help me look good while dealing with this problem/opportunity. Jo-Lynn’s blog is lovely but the girl has no hips! 🙂 So glad you keep partnering to offer even more ideas. Some of her accessories are just wonderful.
Blessings
Yes I do have hips. 😉 Thanks so much for stopping by!
Cyndi
I love everything about this outfit! I also appreciate the encouragement from God’s word on this rainy cloudy day. You are doing a great job! Love your hair too . I always receive your e-mails everyday
You look beautiful as always! I have an appointment with your hairdresser next week! I’m so excited!!
She’s very sweet!!
I checked out the Cleanse system, and it looks great!!! Since i’ve never done this, i have a few questions. Do you suggest the one, three or five day?? I work outside of my home, so how does this effect your digestive system? Love the casual outfit with the flats!!! Such a great look!!!
Bonnie I ordered the 3 day cleanse and I haven’t done it yet. I’m thinking I might do a one day and see how it goes. The only think I am worried about is not having coffee. I love having my coffee in the morning. 🙂
Blessings,
Cyndi
That’s a cleanse in itself!!
I absolutely love your blog and your style!! I dress so much better (and cuter) now, thanks to you😊.. I love the skinny jeans with longer tunics or piko tops, but if the top isn’t quite to my thighs I feel like a hoochie mama😭.. I feel like it’s the stretch that makes me feel this way, too much like leggings. Can you recommend a good skinny jean that is not so “stretchy”. I wear a size 6 or 8 depending on brand, but I just can’t seem to find that “perfect Jean”
I love your purse. Except for the flats, I could recreate that outfit from my own closet. I would wear it with cognac booties or my winter boots.
Just for fun would you share with us some ‘blast from the past’ outfits you styled before you started blogging?
Oh dear!! That would hurt. I don’t even like looking at my outfits from my early years of blogging. Haha!!
Cyndi
Can you share where you originally found the scarf, so we can stalk them/perhaps find something similar? It’s so pretty! Thank you!
Ditto to Katherine’s post. Lovely scarf and I’d like to know where you originally found it as well! Thanks, Cyndi!
The scarf is from Old Navy. Hope that helps!!
Hi Katherine, The scarf is from Old Navy and I just purchased it. I hate that it wasn’t online. 🙁
Cyndi, I really like the Beauty For the Heart today! I saw the owner of Lanes Peach Farms on the news and he said that the cold temperatures are a critical part of making the peaches sweeter and better, so I say, bring on the cold.
The scarf you are wearing is gorgeous!
Have a blessed day!
I like the quote, and see the seasons as something God uses to teach us about life and the cycle of life. I like the slower pace of winter (no yard work!) but don’t like cold at all. And yet it is a good time to curl up with a book and dig deeper into God’s word.
Your pictures gave me a new perspective on flats. I only have a few pair and only for spring and summer. I don’t really like the way they look on my feet and I’m a heel girl. Except for boots, like my riding boots and combat boots. Love those! I do like them with skinny jeans though, the way you show them, and will have to try some on to consider for the colder months!
I haven’t had trouble getting your emails & I love the distressed jeans 😆
I have no problems with your emails – and I have them coming to me at work and at my personal email address because I never want to miss anything :). I only own a couple of pairs of flats, and even those have a very small heel. My doctor has recommended due to my lower back issues to never wear completely flat shoes (of course not sky-high heels either). I do tend to wear more flat styles in the summer though, and rarely in the winter.
I love the Richard Foster quote – so true. I do seem to find more time to read, study, and find alone time in the winter. Thank you for sharing that!
I was going to write a post like this one too! That’s my go-to winter outfit formula as well. I sub in the flats for boots or sneakers though.

What location are you in the photos?
Curious because it looks like Shakertown in background of many photos. Could you mention where you are photographing each time you post somewhere difffernt?
Hi Marie, My picture was taken at Shakertown. I take a lot of my pictures there. It’s such a beautiful place!!
Cyndi
Harrodsburg is my home town and Shakertown is a lovely place for pictures! So encouraged to find such a wonderful and uplifting blog. I am a 60+ follower and I bet we have some common acquaintances.
I have never had trouble receiving your emails in my gmail account.
Are the flats comfortable? I stand all day with my job and wondered how they feel. Thanks!
Didn’t receive your email yesterday but got it today.
Love the quote on trees and how we need winter. I’m a January baby (1963). So I look forward to winter. Just can’t handle the cold temperatures like I use too. I’m making myself to dig closer to my relationship with God. So your scripture was right on point
You can’t get much easier than this and still look polished! I love the addition of flats you both have shown too. I rarely wear flats this time of year (although it’s typically warm enough here), but I really love this look!
Cyndi, love your outfit. So cute and so easy! I also love that quote you included by Richard Foster. It is so true about the season of winter and also about those times of life that are bleak and hard. It can force us to delve deeper into our Savior and our Lord which will result in our growth and strength. Thanks for posting. – Amy

Hi Cyndi, just wanted to tell you I adore you and look forward to your emails every day. However, there are so many advertisements attached that I get very frustrated. I keep closing them out and they come back. I’ve thought about unsubscribing & subscribe again. It may be on my end but not sure. Also, the worst is that I no longer get emails from Jo Lynne since Dec 16th. I have signed back up for her twice & still nothing. I hope you can help me. Thanks so much. Pam
Hi Pam,
I have sent your email to the company that works with my ads. I am going to try and get this fixed. Thank you for sharing this with me!!
Blessings,
Cyndi
Thank you so much! I truly appreciate it. Sincerely, Pam
I have that exact sweater and it is so comfy I also got it in magenta. I love reading your blog each day.
I absolutely love these Rockstar Jeans. They fit so good. I too am 5 foot so no flats for me (except sandals and flip flops, you know, living in Florida). Love your scarf. It adds a nice pop of color. Thanks Cyndi!
I got your email today! Didn’t yesterday! So crazy but I hope after changing your server, I’ll get them every day. 😊Love your outfit. Have a great day!
I love your outfit. I wear sweaters and jeans all winter long in Michigan. I wear only flats even with dressier clothes. I can not wear heels. Your shoes look comfortable.
I really like that outfit. I also like the curls in your hair !😁
This recipe for getting dressed always ends up so stylish, I think!
The scarf adds such nice interest to the outfit. Especially with a solid colored sweater!!
And I find I don’t wear as many bracelets in the winter —but I may need to change that!

You know I can’t see or spell with these reading glasses on……need to go put in my contacts. I meant Invisibleheels.com. Bonnie
Love the flats with your outfits for a change. I have invisible heels in most all of my flatter boots that I bought off Ivisibleheels.com – I am 5 foot so flats aren’t a real staple in my wardrobe either. 🙂 You look fabulous & love reading your blog!
