What To Do When You Are Spiritually Dry

Good morning! We made it to Florida and the weather is amazing. We left Kentucky yesterday with the temperature in the 40’s and it’s already almost 70 degrees here. Hallelujah!! I’m going to soak up this weather and the time with my family.

This week I was feeling like I needed to do something different with my devotions and bible reading. I felt like I was a little spiritually dry. I’m sure many of you have felt that too so I’m sharing what I do when I’m feeling spiritually dry.

What To Do When You Are Spiritually Dry

1. Confess it

Tell Jesus you’re feeling dry. He knows it and he understands. Jeremiah 29:13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

God wants you to cry out to Him. A prayer for more of Him is a prayer that will never be denied.

2. Change up your Bible reading

We know reading God’s word is key for igniting our spiritual lives, but we struggle to know what to do when our Bible reading doesn’t seem to be transforming us into the image of Christ.

One thing you can do is change how you normally read the Bible. Try reading a different version of the Bible. I love the Amplified version, The Message, and the New Living Translation when I’m reading a book in in the Bible. Also try different devotional books.

3. Listen to Praise Music

This is one of my favorite things to do, especially when I’m on my elliptical machine. I crank my praise music up and have my own little worship service.

I was listening to No Longer Slaves this week and I’ve shared it before but it’s an amazing worship song. The words “You rescued me,  And I will stand and sing, I am the child of God”, stuck with me all week.

Ladies, Christ has rescued us and we are children of God!!! Praise Him Today!

Have a blessed Sunday!

  1. Oh how desparately I needed to hear this today. Taking care of my mother who seems to have one issue with her health after another and she is weary and I have been so worried over her. Hearing the song touched my heart and reminded me of His great love. I am a child of God. Bless you Cyndi for sharing this. I in turn shared with someone else who is fearful today.

  2. Thanks for the sharing this lovely song. I have used it in my personal worship since I hear it a few weeks ago. I used “I am a child of God” almost everyday to remind myself of who I am am. As believers we should not be a slave to fear. The spirit of Fear is NOT of God.2 Timothy 1:7

  3. Thank you, Cyndi, for your wonderful scriptures and reminders! We are always lifted up by your words to continue to pray and read the Bible! My go to song is “Good, Good Father”! God is good all the time!
Have a wonderful family vacation and don’t get burnt! Ha, the mother in me comes out!
    Blessings!

  4. Are you in Seaside? From your Instastory, I thought I saw that. We went for the first time over Christmas break. Such a charming place! Thanks for the motivation!!

  5. No amount of classy clothes, jazzy jewelry, perfect physique or sassy shoes can match the beauty of a Jesus-loving Woman! My go-to song is “Live Like You’re Loved”! You’re making a difference, Pretty Woman!

  6. Cyndi, love this song! THANK YOU, we live in Orange Beavh, AL. So you are closer than when you are in KY. Enjoy time away with your family……priceless.
My mantra for the coming week ” You drown my fears in your perfect love”.

  7. I can’t say thank you enough for your sharing here and testimony of what God is doing. I am thankful for the grace of Jesus and His amazing friendship to us. Also, a thank you to this ethos share here! “No Longer a Slave”, such a good reminder today!

  8. Thanks Cyndi for taking the time out on your vacation to bless and share with us. I was blessed through you and others who shared. God at work. 🙂

  9. Praise God-I needed to hear this today Cindi. Being spiritually dry is a lonely feeling of longing and homesickness, but yet, that doesn’t quite describe it. Thank you for the encouragement. (And I also tried clicking on the audio feature of my Bible app and have been listening to some passages to get me through, which I normally have not done-it is soothing and helpful)

  10. Thank you Cyndi! I get in what I refer to as a funk, and it takes some deep deep prayer to shake it off at times. It’s a relief to know I’m not the only one. Enjoy your family and vacation 🌴☀️🍍

  11. Cyndi, some time could you and Wayne discuss the Holy Spirit’s role in our prayers and life?

  12. Hi Cyndi….thank you for your thoughtful posts. I have found that the great hymns of our faith contain rich content and set a tone which honors our thrice holy God.

  13. Thanks, Cyndi! Those spiritual ruts can sneak up on you. My life is chaotic right now due to work and family issues, and it is hard to get motivated for anything. I haven’t been to the hairdresser in so long that at church today my grandson said, “Mimi you are running out of blonde hair, but I like the brown too!” 😉Thank goodness that even tho man looks
at the outward appearance, God looks at
    the heart…
Your Sunday posts are a blessing.

    1. Sandy….I just had to reply. I thought what your grandson said was so funny, I laughed out loud. Thanks for sharing. I really needed that today. Very hard day with lots of tears and its good to know we all have our times of feeling dry and needing a pick me up and be able to be motivated for all life throws our way.

      1. Out of the mouths of babes, right? I will pray for you to have peace, Kathy. Please do the same for me…

  14. Wow…just wow. My pastor spoke about the dry seasons today. He spoke of Moses and the rock he struck and was to speak to that 39 years later he struck twice that brought water to the wilderness for the Chikdren of Israel. He compared it to Jesus who is our Rock. He was struck and living water flowed and now we only have to speak to the Rock and He will provide the living water in our desert. Such a timely devotion to confirm the sermon this morning. I have been so dry lately. I pray every morning and read the Word but just feel I am going through the motions. Thanks for sharing! It blessed me and just added to what I heard this morning. God is truly trying to get my attention. I think it is beginning to rain!

    1. Gwen….I just had to reply. So many good comments today. Its so nice to know you aren’t the only one who feels like you’re going through the motions. I too am in the word and pray but lately I feel dry. I loved what you shared from your sermon. Thanks so much. I took a picture of your words on my iPhone to refer back to. 🙂 Bless you.

      1. Thank you Kathy. I am glad my words encouraged you in some way. I had never heard it compared like that before and I have gone to church all my life. The sermon blessed me and I read Cyndi’s blog and was almost like an extension. Keep pressing on knowing that is only for a season. God will provide.

        1. Thanks so much. I love when we hear the same message from the Lord from different people in one day like you did. Thanks again.

  15. Thank you for sharing. Hope you and your family have a wonderful time. . Nothing like the gulf coast and it’s beautiful white beaches. I’m enjoying this beautiful weather at the pool today.

  16. This is perfect timing for me! I was just sitting in church this morning, watching baptisms, and thinking “why am I feeling like this? Actually, I’m really not feeling much at all!” And then I read your post. I feel like I’ve somehow gotten into a spiritual rut, and I really want to get out of it! I feel like God has spoken to me through you! Thank you Cyndi! You are a blessing, and I always enjoy your posts!

  17. Hello from Navarre Beach! Hope you are in the panhandle – we have the beach beaches! Just don’t tell anyone 🙂

  18. Enjoy your time in my state! Yesterday was perfect….now back to our regularly scheduled hot!

Thanks also for your post. Yes, there are always dry times. It’s important to keep at it tho. That’s when we really need our quiet times with our Lord!!

  19. Thank you for this today – great timing. I have a friend with a a 4 year old with a life threatening disability who at times struggles with her faith. I’m going to send to her.

    Gwen

  20. I’m happy you’re enjoying our sunny weather here in Florida! I just want you to know that this post is exactly what I needed this morning. Just shows that GOD knows what we need and provides it at the exact moment when we need it. Thank you for your inspiration.

  21. I have turned my driving time into mini worships by listening to KLove on the radio. Enjoy your vacation and time with your family.

  22. Thanks for your encouragement. I always look forward to your Sunday post! I appreciate your bold witness. The fashion world needs more of Jesus. 🙂

  23. Glad you guys made it to Florida!! The Sunshine State! I always loved our trips back to our home in St. Pete, FL. for repairs and such during the year. But my mom hated the heat, thus the reason we lived in Ohio and traveled back and forth. Have a great time !! Soak up some SUN and some SON today !! God Bless.

  24. Thank you, Cyndi. I think everyone has moments when they feel this way. I am right there right now, so this is helpful.

  25. Cyndi, I love your inspiration for today. Thank you so much!!

What praise music do you listen to?

    DiAnne

  26. Amen to that Cyndy have a wonderful holiday you and your husband deserve some down time. Thank you for all your inspirations and being honest…we all have our days. God Bless you and your family.

  27. Thank you for sharing today, Cyndi. Spiritual lives need spiritual communities and when I stay with various discussion groups offered at Church I avoid the dry spells. I enjoy the music that you’ve shared and if you have any suggestions for more ‘peppy’ music I’d love to hear. Thank you for bringing us all together!

  28. I love Jonathan and Melissa I listen to them often and have their new CD every song on it is great! Off to church this morning nothing like Sunday morning and going to church to up lift you

  29. Thank you! I haven’t been recovering from the trials of life and need freedom from fear and anxiety and worry so I can feel joy. Would appreciate prayer and advice. I long to feel happy!

    1. Anne, I’ve had trouble putting into words how I have been feeling, but you nailed the explanation. I long to feel the joy that I once had. I don’t have the answer but I will pray for you.
