Learning to Abide in Christ

Well, we are in full summer mode! It’s time for vacations, pools, cookouts, and long hot days. I often find during the summer months, when everything is a little laid back, I can get lazy with my Bible reading if I’m not careful.

I have felt over the last few weeks that the word “abide” keeps coming to my mind. To abide means to remain, stay, wait, continue, and endure.

Learning to Abide in ChristSome words are mentioned quite a few times in scripture and when they are, I think there’s a reason. Abide is mentioned over one hundred times.

Christ is reminding us to abide. Abide in Him, in His word, and in His grace. It takes discipline to slow down and remain in God’s word but without it, we can’t live victoriously.

Here are some scriptures that remind us to remain in Christ.

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. John 15:7

Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son. 2 John 1:9

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. John 15:4

Let’s make this a summer not only about vacations and cookouts but full of growing closer to Christ!

Have a blessed Sunday!

  1. Thank you Cyndi you are right we can all get so busy we forget. I pray in the middle of the night it helps me to sleep he has control over everything so we have to let him do what he has to do.

Have fun on your trip sounds like you are having a lot of fun.

    God Bless you,

    Nicole aka Glenda

  2. Thank you Cyndi, I’ve been thinking about this since yesterday. I’ve been going though a very difficult time with my daughter sometimes I feel nobody is listening but I do know he is. What happening is happening for a reason it’s in God time not mine.

  3. How far out West are you going? I live in N.W. Oregon 🙂 Thanks so much for the reminder of abiding. I can easily get off track during busy days and not be consistent. I hate when I do that. I just went through very difficult 3 weeks that I’ve already shared, after a hard year anyway and just feeling like I was going to have it smooth for awhile and then something hit just today with health of my daughter and what she may be going through with having to eliminate even more foods from her diet. If they eliminate any more from allergies or how she’s feeling, she won’t have anything else to eat. I came home from the coast after being with her and her husband and was feeling the stress building up and worry about her and the road ahead and if it will affect her getting pregnant etc. etc. I felt sick. Then I told myself that God has been faithful in my trials so far and He won’t forsake me or my daughter and then I checked my email and saw yours. Just what I needed to hear. I’m going to continue to abide in Him, trusting Him for both my daughters health issues with allergies to foods and know that it will be okay and He will continue to guide both of them. I pray someday they can live feeling healthy again. Why do we have to have GMO foods etc. that is destroying our kids generations bodies? Just feel its part of the fallen world we live in getting worse. Enjoy your vacation with your hubbie. How fun.

  4. Cyndi, Abode is the Word the Lord gave me January 1 for the year! I’m trying to learn to rest in Him, be still with Him and to allow Him to be my peace! With everything that we are walking through right now, it’s more important than ever!
Have you heard this song? I thinks it’s a pretty new one fro My housefires… I hope you’ll listen. Enjoy your travels!

  5. This is so good. Over the last year, we had been going through a difficult time and I searched the Lord for answers, abiding in Him and trusting Him and he began to answer prayers one after the other over the last few months! It’s been amazing! As I was sitting on my front porch thanking God for all He has done, I asked to continue growing close to Him even when things are going well. I want to continue to abide, no matter what my circumstances.

  6. Amen Sister! I tend to get lax abiding in God’s Word during the summer months too. Thank you for the Scriptures and sweet reminder to be faithful to Him daily! Blessings!

  7. I love to travel and especially the West. I hope you post lots of pics. This is a great one of the arch! Thanks for the messages you share about Jesus and the songs on Sunday are amazing!

  8. Thanks, your message spoke to me. Not just in walk with God, but in my marriage walk as well. It has been a confusing walk lately, but your message confirms that I need to abide and hang in there to see what is on the other side. Thank you, and enjoy your trip. Love The Arch. I hope you made the journey to the top.

    1. I’ve been in your shoes and understand where you’re coming from. God has always shown me how faithful He is when we walk in obedience to Him. Praying for you today 😉

  9. Cyndi,
Abiding in Christ during the hard times in my life is what had brought me to where I am today. Thank you for reminding me. Your blog is a inspiration to me both in faith and in fashion. I have just discovered you, but then God gives me what I need when I need it…….so thank you for your fashion advise and your scriptures. They always touch my heart.

  10. Thanks so much for this post today. It’s so good to be reminded of this especially during a busy summer where it seems I need to be in more than one place at a time. I love your fashion posts but especially love your heart for God! Blessings! (PS, both you and Traci are looking amazing! Need to draw some inspiration from you both as I’m struggling right now.)

  11. Thank you for the food for thought today. It’s really struck a chord with me and I’ll be thinking about this for a while, I believe.

I haven’t been out West since I was a little girl, but remember it being so beautiful and so vast. You could see forever.
I’m so envious! Hope y’all have a wonderful trip.
