Welcome to 25 Days of Winter Fashion Recap! Well, it was a fun 25 days and I think I did everything from casual fashion, to dressy fashion, and yes, even some trendy fashion.
I feel like I need to do some explaining about how I view fashion these days. I started blogging in my early forties. I wanted to figure out my style and what I should be wearing in my forties and beyond. I bought books, I read them, and I went by the rules.
I said things like “never” and “shouldn’t” when it came to fashion over 40.
Then I turned 50 and I decided to throw out the books. I don’t want to say “never” or “shouldn’t”. I’ve decided fashion should be fun and I don’t want to play by the rules.
By that, I mean I like to try trends (this doesn’t mean I’ll be wearing low necklines and miniskirts that show too much skin #notgoingtohappen). I guess I agree that 50 is the new 30 (wink)!
Here’s my motto:
I think looking back over the 25 days I had a mixture of fashion and I like a mixture. I hope you will continue to join me as I share fashion but most importantly as I share about how we can be beautiful from the inside out. Beauty begins there!

Happy New Year Cindy: First and foremost, God bless you and your family. I have been following you on and off for the past several years now. You are such an amazing person, I would love to meet with you and talk to you. I feel like I already know you and your family. I wanted to tell you that I hit the big 60 last year and have never been better. It’s just a number!!! This past year I had pneumonia and had to be hospitalized (scary to say the least) lost my hair because of antibiotics) however, coming back in thinner and white. The doctor said to give it a year, pray for my big hair again. I think you look amazing, you have lost weight and look great! I am inspired to lose weight as well and have been following in the Paelo diet and exercising. I also got my first Stitch Fix box this December- I now know why they call it a FIX – I am hooked and loved every piece, fit like it was made for me, the quality wonderful. Cyndi, I always enjoy seeing your outfits. I. Sure you have answered this question before, probably many times before, but I need to ask again…..how tall are you? What size top and bottom do you usually wear? I have to wear petite or I look like I am climbing out of a hole.

I’ve been following you for two years since we moved from the Carolinas to Indiana. I’m now a stay at home mom and you and your blog helped me get out of my slump. I went from wearing business casual in the south to leggings and sweat shirts in Indiana until I found your blog through Pinterest. I’m turning 50 in the new year and I am getting my first stitch fix box in January. I also bought that cute reindeer sweater from loft. Thank you for all the fashion inspiration and scripture. I love fashion too and my style is very similar to yours. I have loads of clothes but I cannot enjoy them due to weight I have gained while recovering from an injury. So, Your blog has ignighted a desire in me to work toward getting healthier and losing the weight. I’ve joined Faster and have been studying the program, preparing to begin Jan. 1. Thanks Cyndi for a great Winter Series. I think as you can tell by the post, we all agree its okay to think outside the box, no matter our age. I get lots of great ideas from you. Many times I would never purchase from seeing the model online, but once you style it, I love it. 🙂 One of my favorite shows use to be “What Not To Wear.” I just watched a rerun last night in fact. Thanks for a wonderful 25 days of winter fashion, and all your daily effort this requires. I agree that our age should not have to define what we necessarily choose to wear. I learned that when I was hesitant years ago to buy my first pair of distressed jeans. My family said “go for it “and I’m so glad I did. I was in the retail fashion industry in my younger years( I’m turning 50 next month) and love fashion and shopping ( I doubt that will ever change). I have vowed to always dress in what I like and what makes me feel confident and comfortable. I have a very similar style to yours and that’s why I enjoy your blog so much and when I’m in doubt you give me the extra push lol…. I also enjoy your inner beauty of a Godly woman, may we all strive for that in our lives.

I’ve been following your blog for about 3ish years, maybe a little longer and it’s been fun watching you evolve. Your style has definitely changed and watching you embrace new trends and share them is very inspirational. We are within a few months of each other age wise and I, like you, don’t want to be defined my age and look dowdy either. Older is younger these days.😉 You had so many cute looks in this series and your genuine sweetness makes them that much more beautiful. That’s a good philosophy Cyndi! It’s luke at our church, where we say the only dress code is modesty.
Everyone has their own taste, and just because you don’t see yourself wearing a particular look, does not mean that someone else shouldn’t wear it!
I think it is USUALLY a compliment when someone says, “I love your outfit, but I couldn’t pull it off.” It means you have style!

You’ve shown us so many great looks–I think #9 should go into some sort of hall of fame. And it’s funny, but when you first styled #19 I didn’t like it as well, but now, looking at it today with “fresh” eyes, I just love it. You have a great creativity for putting these things together, and I think watching what you do continually “freshens” my fashion eyes to new ideas and helps me stretch a little beyond my usual old comfort zone. It’s wonderful! Hope you and yours will have a very, very Merry Christmas!!
Right on girl! I have never felt like you push fashion or trends on anyone nor do I feel like I have to mimic everything you style! I have a degree in fashion merchandising but learned long ago that the “playbook” isn’t always right for everyone or as one reader stated, we’d all walk out the door looking alike! I glean a lot from you Cyndi and am eager to see what you’re styling everyday! I just celebrated my 75th birthday and still love fashion as much as ever. I follow this blog because I enjoy seeing how Cyndi puts an outfit together, following trends but using her own good judgement. Linda, I am right behind you at 73 and loving every day the Lord gives me. I am new to this site, and am really happy with it. An inspiration in more ways than one.My mom is always my inspiration, in the back of my head. She never looked dowdy up until she died at 93. I wish I had her and Cyndi’s inner sense of style.
I love your attitude! My goal is to be your age and beyond, and still want to look good. I’m not all that far behind you, 62. I see so many women “give up” or as I think of it, “give in”. I have told my daughter that if I start doing that, think that I have developed dementia and have me evaluated immediately!

I so appreciate your style and the inspiration to get out of my box so to say. Since I started following you about 4 years ago my style has changed – I try things that I may not otherwise :), and that’s a good thing. I too don’t want to be dowdy, AND I too will not have the mini-skirt or low cut top. Life is too short to be boring.
I really liked everything you showed us but my favorites were 6, 8, 13, 15, and 24. And for party looks 16 and 18 were beautiful. Well done Cyndi, well done!

Thank you for another fantastic and fun 25 Days of Winter fashion series. Looking back at all the styles, you really did a nice job mixing up casual wear, holiday wear and good basic pieces. I love my raindeer sweater from Loft and have worn it several times. I too use to play by the fashion rules when I worked in the Corp world but now in my fifties and working only part time I can have fun and explore a bit 😉 so your blog gives me lots of inspiration. What a great attitude! I agree with you about never saying never b/c who knows? We haven’t tried everything out there so something might surprise us. I think this goes with the idea that “the more we know, the more we realize we don’t know”. I’m all for classics so I don’t waste money but now that I’m 50 I feel more daring and don’t care what others think so I’m going to wear what I like!

I agree, Cyndi, with all that you’ve stated. I did order white boots and am looking forward to wearing them. I enjoy fashion and trends in fashion. I always think about my critics in terms of “you do you and I do me” I only have to please God and me and not be an embarrassment to my family (whatever that may mean.)

Because getting older means getting wiser, not stuck in our ways. And I think it’s been way more fun and creative to try out new styles and “break the rules”.
I keep trying to push my mom (the 70+ model) a little when we work on the blog. She says it’s hard to change after going by these rules for so long. But I like to argue that they are “just clothes” and easily changeable. If we have such a hard time changing our thought about clothing, how can we expect people to change their hearts and minds about bigger issues???
