7 Summer Church Outfits

I often get asked what I wear to church so today I’m sharing 7 Summer Church Outfits. Our church is casual, but there is a mixture of women who wear pants, jeans, and dresses. Basically, anything goes.

When the weather is cold, I wear pants because I pretty much freeze from November until March around here. But summer is a whole different ballgame.

I’ve rounded up seven summer church outfits to give you some ideas. The quantity is limited on most of these pieces but, you can shop your closet for similar looks.

1. A black maxi dress is a classic closet staple. I grab this one all the time!

Black Maxi Dress (similar here)//Denim Jacket (I’m wearing an XS)//Earrings//Watch//Bracelet//Wedge Heel//Handbag

2. This is a form-fitting dress, so when I wore it to church, I added a white denim jacket.

Leith Dress (I’m wearing a small)//Spanx (I’m wearing a small)//Nude Heel//Earrings//Handbag

3. A floral blouse and black pants are classic, but these two pieces I’m styling are definitely on the trendy side. I did wear them to church, and I got lots of compliments.

Ruched sleeve blouse (I’m wearing an XS)//Wide Leg Trouser (I’m wearing US 4)//Block Heel//Watch//Bracelet//Gold Earrings//Flower Earrings

4. I wear jeans to church at times, but I like to dress them up a bit with a heel. These jeans are my favorite “dressy” jean.

Lace Detail Sleeveless Top (I’m wearing an XS)//Wit & Wisdom Jeans (I’m wearing a size 6)//Earrings//Bamboo Clutch//Watch//Bracelet//Nude Heels (less expensive option here)

5. A chambray dress with sleeves works great for church, especially since I’m typically cold indoors.

Chambray Shirtdress/(I’m wearing a small)/Sam Edelman Flats (TTS)//Round Handbag here and here

6. A chevron striped dress that’s a soft jersey knit and I paired it with a white denim jacket.

Chevron Swing Dress/(I’m wearing an XS)/Sandals (less expensive option here)//WhiteDenim Jacket (less expensive option here, plus size here)//Earrings//Bracelet

7. Lastly, a striped fit and flare dress (my favorite style of dress). Add some cute accessories, and you’re good to go!

What do you wear to church?

I’m so honored that you have taken time out of your day to stop by my blog. I’m also on FacebookPinterest, and my favorite one, Instagram.

Beauty For the Heart~~Since we’re talking about what to wear to church, I thought this verse was fitting. Let’s remember that God looks at our heart.

For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7

Have a blessed day!

  1. Cyndi, while I love six of the church outfits, I’m afraid you may not have chosen very well with the Leith dress—-just a bit too snug and, on you, very sexy. I don’t think the men in the congregation would have their minds on the sermon—-they’d all be craning their necks to look at YOU! (However, you’d look marvelous at a nice restaurant or out on the town!)

  2. These are great church outfits. I were things loke this when i go to church in the cool months i wear jeans. I was read the comments and it made me thing of a time when i was asked to leave a chirch because i didnt have pantyhose and a head covering on. Thank God times have change. God looks at the heart not the haute couture. Praying for your in-laws

  3. The church I go to is very Casual. I had always wore a dress or a skirt and blouse or sweater. When I wore slacks for the first time I felt weird. But i got used to it really quick. I love all of your church outfits. Thank you for sharing with us. Love your blog.

  4. I personally could only wear number five to church as I am Mormon. We never wear any type of pants to church and we keep our shoulders covered because we wear special undergarments. 🙏

  5. Thanks for the church outfit ideas… I’m one who just can’t break the habit of a dress for Sunday’s. I know over the years it has become more casual so I opt for the casual dresses and sometimes add a denim jacket if need be. I do like to dress up without being over the top lol.. these are all great ideas. Love your BFTH so fitting for your blog today.. have fun at the sale🤗🤗🤗can’t wait to see your finds.

  6. Praying for strength and God’s comfort for your family! I’m sorry about your in-laws. Yes, unfortunately many of us are facing this time of life. Hard to see loved ones suffer.

  7. I love your church outfit picks! I’m 56 and grew up wearing ‘Sunday clothes’ to church, too. The church that my husband & I attend now is much more casual…our pastor even wears jeans to deliver his Sunday sermons…We do have members that still choose to ‘dress up’ for church, but I love the freedom of having the choice. After all, Jesus looks on the heart, not on the outward appearance.

  8. Hi Cyndi,
I am from Greensboro, NC, grew up in Pilot Mtn., NC. I am 54 and still wear “Sunday” clothes (hose, heels and purse) to church. Just the way I was raised.
I feel you should wear what makes you feel good. He is not looking at your attire. He is looking at the person.
    Have a wonderful day!

  11. Hi Cyndi!
I like all of the outfits you have on ~ but my favorite two dresses/outfits you are stying ~ are the the chambray and the striped!!

  12. We drove through KY on our from OH home to Atlanta and I felt like I had a friend nearby! The Lexington area is so pretty! Thanks for sharing cute outfit ideas with us every day, and I hope your in-laws find peace and comfort soon.

  13. I like all your “church clothes” – I’m on the hunt for a black dress like yours; and we have the same variety at our church, we are pretty casual. I’ve even worn shorts some this summer BUT, we go on Saturday evening rather than Sunday because our church offers Saturday services times and well, I’m lazy and like to sleep in on Sunday :). Our pastor tells a story that I remember every time I hear about “what to wear to church”. When he was a little boy, from a poor family who didn’t attend church, he went to church with a friend. He wore the best he had, but it wasn’t good enough for some at the church and he was told to “dress appropriately” the next time he visited – he never attended that church again. Fast forward a few years and he attended another church and again wore the best he had. This time he was welcomed with open arms and his outward appearance was of little concern – they were just happy he was there. It goes back to that saying “people may forget what you say, they’ll never forget how you made them feel”.

  14. Our church is a casual dress church. I guess our only dress code is modesty. Ladies do wear dresses, but they are usually soft knit or loose maxis. Most of the time in the summer, I wear capris and a nice blouse, or loose palazzo style printed pants and a fitted top. I sing with the Worship Team, so I actually feel more comfortable in pants than a dress, since I am on the stage. Some of the young guys wear Bermuda shorts and polo shirts, and most of the children wear shorts in the summer. It seems that nowadays, the dresses, heels, and hats are reserved for Easter!

  15. I will mix my outfits up. Our air conditioning is cold so I wear a sweater in the summer. That way I can take it off after. I love to wear dresses to church in the summer. Here in Michigan the weather can change quickly. In the winter I wear pants. Warm sweaters are a must during the coldest months. I always dress up.

  16. Cute dresses! I love the pant outfits you put together also! You look fab! I wear mostly dresses to church but I wear a bright green top and pallazo pants too or cropped black pants with a white bell sleeve lace top…things kinda more dressed up like you. My Sunday School teacher would die if I walked in too casual, LOL! I do my hair curly some Sundays (- natural curl) and other Sundays, smooth and neat. Everyone is loving my curl but at times it can get wild. You certainly look on point with all occasions and love your style!

  17. Thank you for this post! For some reason, I have a lot of trouble figuring out what to wear to church on Sundays. This helped tremendously!!

  18. I am so glad we don’t have to dress “UP” for church anymore and can go casual just like your Beauty For the Heart post says God doesn’t look at our clothes but our heart. Super cute outfits thanks for this post

  19. Cyndi, for some reason I have not been getting your emails lately. When I went in to check on my subscription, it says I am already subscribed. The emails are not going to my trash. Any ideas? Thanks!

  20. Love the outfits! I am one of the few left at our church, (we’ve gone ‘casual’) who still wears a dress. I do wear pants in cold weather, but they’re not ripped jeans and frayed hems. Sad to see everyone get SO lax. I was brought up to dress nice in God’s House. Yes, His House is everywhere, but when we all show up to honor God, it was nice that we respect Him with how we appear, too. Or, …I’m just old and used to the ways of the past.

        1. There is something to be said about preparing for the specialness of being in His house to worship Him.

    1. I agree!! I was raised being told that we ‘dressed’ for church. You put on your Sunday best. I still feel that way.

    2. Our church is also casual and I don’t really think it matters what clothes people wear. But I enjoy dressing up a bit – my personal decision – so for me, it’s dresses, skirts or pants.

  21. Have fun at Nordstrom and those Sam Edelman flats seem to go with everything. Are they comfortable?
