We Don’t Give Up

Happy Sunday friends! I’ve been thinking a lot about life the last few days after losing my father-in-law this past week. He left a wonderful legacy, and his life was a testimony to all of us of how he loved Jesus.

I love the way the Passion Translation says 2 Corinthians 4:16-18, So no wonder we don’t give up. For even though our outer person gradually wears out, our inner being is renewed every single day. We view our slight, short-lived troubles in the light of eternity. We see our difficulties as the substance that produces for us an eternal, weighty glory far beyond all comparison because we don’t focus our attention on what is seen but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but the unseen realm is eternal.

This life is temporal, and although it can be overwhelming at times, we have to look to Jesus and know that He is with us. There’s nothing that we go through that is a surprise to Him.

On the morning of my father-in-laws funeral (8-10-18), this was what the sunrise looked like right outside our front door. Something about that gorgeous sunrise reminded me that God is good and He is in control. He can always bring beauty from ashes if we will only let him.

Let’s keep our eyes on Him!

I just heard this song this past week and thought you all might enjoy it.

I’m so honored that you have taken time out of your day to stop by my blog. I’m also on FacebookPinterest, and my favorite one, Instagram.

Have a blessed Sunday!

  1. I’m so sorry for your loss, but so thankful that we can celebrate a loved one going to their new home in Heaven where there is perfect peace! Thanks to Jesus Christ!!

  2. My prayers and thoughts are with your family during this difficult time. That sunrise reminds me of the day my mother in law passed away. It was the most beautiful sunset ever.
Thank for posting that song. I have never heard it before and the words were perfect.

  3. I lost my husband almost five years ago and I certainly understand the ‘firsts’. A book by Miriam Neff was a great help to me – “From One Widow to Another”. Please share this with your mother-in-law.

  4. The dawn of a new day is God’s canvas I call it. May all your fond memories of your father in law be comfort to you and your family in the days ahead.

  5. I understand about the first. My brother passed away in January and his birthday is Tuesday, which will be hard for my sweet mama. I’m sorry what you guys have been going through. Life is a beautiful thing, but some days aren’t as beautiful as others. May your coming days ahead be beautiful. I loved Sundays too. I love my church family. Thanks for sharing the pic ❤️

  6. I am so sorry for your loss. I have been following you for a couple of years now and love your fashion and your faith. God bless.

  7. Thanks for sending the song. Never heard it before. I sent it on to my friend who just lost her son a year ago. I cried when I listened to the song. I’ve lost loved ones but nothing like loosing a child. Only God can get us through something like that. I’m happy to hear how wonderful the service was for your father in law. The firsts will be hard as you know but always know as you celebrate holidays etc without him he is celebrating with the King of Kings. :). Loved the sunset. Aug 10 was my mom and dad’s wedding anniversary. My mom lost my dad when she was only 59 yrs old and he was 63 yrs old. Tragic fall from a ladder. God has been our strength all these years. :).

  8. I just listened to this song, it is so beautiful. Thank you for posting it.
I have lost a father to pancreatic cancer in 2010, a sister (only 48 yrs. young also to pancreatic cancer in 2016 and 5 days ago a niece (36 years young) to MDS. One day soon we will be together. Praying for comfort.

  9. I lost both parents in less than 5 years… my dad just over a year ago. He would have been 80 on the 9th of August… the firsts are so hard but we get through knowing they are in a much better place:) it’s just our human nature to miss them terribly. Continued prayers for you and Wayne in the days ahead.
    Love to all
    Karen

  10. Cyndi,

So sad for your loss. We have shared similar loss. My husband lost the remaining 3 members of his immediate family in a 2 year span. While it was hard as we all know, god was with us. Praying for you and your husband as you walk through this.

    Much love friend.

  11. Hi Cyndi,

You inspire me with daily post which all relate to the beauty all around us. May God continue to inspire you and bless your life abundantly as you bless others.

    Blessings always,
    Robin Colvin

  12. Beautiful song. Thank you for sharing. I, too, have loved ones around the throne and miss them, and jealous of the angels.

  13. You have already past one first. The first morning without him on this earth. And what a beautiful sunrise he sent to you on a sad morning to say, “I’m happy!”

  14. “ Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have out my trust in You. “ – Psalms 143:8

  15. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences.Your blog is such a blessing to me in so many ways. Praise God that his goodness and grace guides your family.

  16. In reference to your picture of the sunrise, God loves us all – whether we stand straight or crooked. God loves us all.

  17. The “Firsts” are hard but to know your father in law is with God himself will make it easier. My Dad passed away at the age of 74 and it has been 16 years and I know he is with God himself.

  18. Cyndi, I was on vacation last week and missed this news. I’m so sorry for your family’s loss. Please know your family is in my prayers.

  19. The sunrise is just gorgeous! Isn’t that so like our Heavenly Father to show up with such a beautiful gift to show us His peace and love in the midst of our sorrows! 24. Cyndi, What a beautiful sunrise you captured on Friday. As you well know, the firsts are so tough. I pray that your mother-in-law will continue to enjoy life and not give up now that her husband is no longer by her side. I LOVE that song! Please share the name of the singer. I want to buy her music from the iTunes Store. Have a blessed day!

love one. We lost my father in law on Christmas Eve. Sending prayers if comfort to you and your family.
    With faith.

  26. Cyndi, I am so sorry for your loss but grateful for heavens gain of another angel. Thank you for sharing the beautiful song by Donna Taggert, so perfectly written and performed. The song translates our feelings perfectly what we go through in the process of letting go of our loved ones as they leave this earth to reach their goal and enter everlasting life around the throne. Keeping you and your family in prayer as you learn to adjust in the days, months and years to come without your precious father-in-law. Love love love Jealous Of The Angels.

  27. I have been on vacation abroad and just read your entry about your father in law. So sorry for your loss..
You are absolutely right about “firsts”.
I remember thinking the same thing when my dad passed… All I can say to you is know God is walking with you and he will always provide comfort. I often think what would happen if we did not have faith? That would make the pain of loss all that harder.. I will pray for you and your family

  28. I am sorry for your loss. It is unfortunate that death is a part of life. Much sympathy to you and your family. I have lost loved ones recently…..your remark about all of the firsts is so true.
    Prayers and sighs.

  29. Oh Cyndi,
Somehow I missed the passing of your father in law and what your week has been like. I am so sorry for your loss. I am praying for your husband, his mother and your family as you experience all of those “firsts” without him. May the God of Hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him.

  30. I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my father 13 years ago, and think about him everyday. It was very hard for me, but like you said, God brings beauty from ashes. I now understand there is life in death. As painful as it is to lose a loved one, after time, years, I came to appreciate the deep feelings, thoughts and experience it gave me. And I know that God and my dad were with me every step of the way. I’m a practicing Mormon, and we use the King James version of the Bible. In the parable of the prodigal son, at the very end, the father tells the older son, “you were with me all along”. I find that so comforting and I wouldn’t trade being “with” the Father for anything. Again, I’m so sorry for your loss. And I also love your blog.
