When Worry Overwhelms Us

We all go through seasons where things are hard, and we focus on the pain and suffering in our lives. It can be so easy to give in to feelings of worry. We wonder what will happen next? Will we ever live without the weight of our worry.

As believers, we have a hope in a Savior that cares deeply for us.  He comforts us in hard times, and he wants us to look to Him when our circumstances start to overwhelm us.

Matthew 6:34 says (MSG), Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.

We shouldn’t worry about the future but focus on today because we know Jesus is with us.

Worry is talked about over an over in scripture, and it affects us both physically and spiritually. Here are some of the effects of worry:

  • Excessive worry disturbs our peace of mind making it harder for us to concentrate.
  • It damages our health (it can cause insomnia, digestive issues, skin and hair damage, just to name a few).
  • It leads to depression.
  • It negatively affects the way we treat others.
  • And it reduces our ability to trust in God.

How many of these are you experiencing because of worry?

Let’s commit to giving our worries to Jesus. He can handle them so much better than we can. Remember, each day is a gift!

When darkness tries to roll over my bones
When sorrow comes to steal the joy I own
When brokenness and pain is all I know
Oh, I won’t be shaken, no, I won’t be shaken

‘Cause my fear doesn’t stand a chance
When I stand in Your love
My fear doesn’t stand a chance
When I stand in Your love
My fear doesn’t stand a chance
When I stand in Your love!

Oh, shame no longer has a place to hide
And I am not a captive to the lies
Oh, I’m not afraid to leave my past behind
Oh, I won’t be shaken, no, I won’t be shaken!

My fear doesn’t stand a chance
When I stand in Your love
My fear doesn’t stand a chance
When I stand in Your love
My fear doesn’t stand a chance
When I stand in Your love!

And there’s power that can break off every chain
There’s power that can empty out a grave
There’s resurrection power that can save
There’s power in Your name, there’s power in Your name
There’s power that can break off every chain
There’s power that can empty out a grave
There’s resurrection power that can save
There’s power in Your name, power in Your name!

My fear doesn’t stand a chance
When I stand in Your love
My fear doesn’t stand a chance
When I stand in Your love
My fear doesn’t stand a chance
When I stand in Your love!

My fear doesn’t stand a chance
When I stand in Your love
My fear doesn’t stand a chance
When I stand in Your love
My fear doesn’t stand a chance
When I stand in Your love!

Have a blessed Sunday!

  1. Thank you Cyndi; this came at just the right time. I’m taking anti-anxiety pills like they’re candy because of my anxiety with what’s going on in this country of ours. Hate seems to be the rule of the day! It’s just terrible, and I’m frightened for my family, especially the young ones, my grandchildren. Will there even BE a world when/if they grow up? I really needed this verse from Matthew. I’ll keep it and read it often. This has been such a comfort. God bless you, Cyndi.

  2. Wow, I felt you were speaking straight thru to me. Painful to be reminded of how worry has overtaken my life, but I thank you! Please keep posting messages like this, we all need this type of encouragement, support and sisterhood❤️

  3. Isn’t it amazing how God works sometimes? I have been receiving a lot of messages from Him about this in my life within the past few weeks. I get what He is trying to tell me. Thank you for being the messenger in delivering this message from God to me.

  4. Thank you so much! God is using you to speak to many of us! My sweet daughter who has always dreamed of being pregnant in spite of major health problems was given the joyous news she is miraculously pregnant. Now at 20 weeks they are telling her the baby will not survive. Praying we can all leave it in the hands of our God. Blessings!

  5. I also needed to hear this. I have not heard of this scripture delivered like this (i.e. MSG) Easy to understand and very modern day. I will be looking for this version. Thank you for delivering this message. God Bless.

  6. My favorite quote:
“Don’t tell me worrying doesn’t help- Everything i worry about doesn’t happen”
Thank you Cyndi for your inspiring and uplifting messages😊

  7. Thank you for this reminder; oh, Cyndi, how I needed this today! I listen to your talk about Gripping his hem often; you are a blessing to all of us.

  10. Worry and anxiety have been stealing my happiness and trying desperately to steal my joy lately. I am looking to Him for all things and appreciate this message of encouragement today.
    Blessings!

  11. Needed to read this desperately. My 87 year old dad is in ICU right now. Had a heart rate of 222 and they had to shock him. He is getting an ICD placed tomorrow morning. My parents just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last weekend. I have been experiencing extreme insomnia due to thyroid issues and have had 10 hours sleep in last three days. I worry constantly and am going to save this post. Sometimes it almost seems impossible to get through the tough times. I need to read the Bible more. Thanks again Cyndi.

  12. Oh my goodness, this post was speaking right to me! My anxiety has been at an all time high recently and I’m trying to pray through the ride. Thank you for filling our hearts the His word.
