How to Style a Monochromatic Outfit

Hey ladies! I hope you had a good weekend. We had a very fall-ish feeling weekend, and today it’s going to rain with temperature’s in the 70s. Things are definitely changing!

Today I’m sharing what I wore to church. I styled a monochromatic outfit, but I popped it with a pair of chic leopard print heels.

Monochromatic outfits are easy to create; you just need to select the color you want to wear.

Since I have dark hair and skin, I chose black, but if you’re blond with fairer skin, navy might be a better option.

I also picked two different fabrics, my turtleneck is a soft, lightweight fabric, and my trousers are a polyester/crepe material.

I didn’t want it to look like I was going to a funeral, so I added leopard print heels to my outfit.

Monochromatic outfits are great for petite women. Dressing monochromatically can make you appear taller and slimmer because a monochromatic outfit creates one seamless line from head to toe.

I recently purchased these Leith trousers. They’re an updated black trouser for fall with a flattering high waist and flowing cut.

I love a sleeveless turtleneck for early fall. The sleeveless silhouette works well with wide-leg jeans and high-waisted pants; you can easily create a statement look with this sleeveless turtleneck from Target.

I am in love with these chic leopard print heels! They are the perfect accessory to add to my fall outfits.

  1. Hi Cindy I love your posts and they really do help. I have an Xmas luncheon to go to and wanted to know how to wear dress slacks. I’ve recently started wearing cropped straight leg – but it’s normally with open sandals. How do you style in the winter when it’s cold? Thank you for your help

  2. You look so fit!! I am in my fourth week of FWTFL — you inspired me! Love the outfit; you look classically casual (or perhaps casually classic!)!

  3. Absolutely love the outfit! You look beautiful, as always. Thanks for the recipe in this morning’s e-mail- I have tried to recreate the Lexingtonian salad from Malone’s twice! 🙂

  4. Love the outfit! It looks a lot like a black jumpsuit I purchased this summer. I’m short, 5’2″, and agree the all one color helps us short girls look taller. 😀

  5. Love this outfit on you. I’m afraid the pants wouldn’t look good on me being 3″ shorter than you. I LOVE the shoes. The shoes and necklace just make the outfit. I don’t think there is anything you can’t wear and look gorgeous. Glad to be back reading your blog. I’ve missed it. My daughter had her first baby, my first grand child 5 1/2 wks early. Scary, but all is well and she got to come home yesterday when she was 2 wks. old.. We were told up to a month. She’s a girl. 🙂 God is good and HE was in it the whole time. My daughter was on vacation 3 hrs. from her home with her husband and went into labor, so they were in the NICU there for 15 days. Of course we had to go see my sweet, beautiful granddaughter. You know how it is. My heart is full. 🙂

  6. This look would be fine with a sweater, jacket, or something else covering the turtleneck. We women need to keep it a bit more modest.

  7. Love this on you!! At first I thought it was a Jumpsuit. I can’t wear those type of pants, they make me look bigger. I need straight leg. The turtleneck is awesome and a must have for layering in cooler months.

  8. Love this outfit! I need to make myself wear heels more because those shoes make the outfit. I get lazy and mostly wear flats. Quick question, do those gold bangles that you’re currently loving look plastic-y in person?

  9. absolutely love love love this outfit! and since I’m 5’2 I tend to dress this way a lot! I personally think it’s very chic :)!

  10. Wow Cindy!
This outfit is darling and I absolutely love it. I thought it was a jumpsuit. The shoes are everything. I would definitely wear this outfit for so many occasions. It is just adorable. This look is extremely flattering on you. I have a sleeveless turtleneck and I have pants almost identical to the ones you are wearing. I have a cute little pair of leopard print flats that I will probably wear but I might explore purchasing a pair of sandals like you are wearing for a dresser look. Thank you for the great inspiration just love it!

  11. I love this look. I am very petite (5 ft) and I am going to try this. When you are styling a monochromatic look, do you worry about making sure they are the same shade of black for example, or isn’t that important?

  12. This is a prime example of how accessories absolutely MAKE the outfit! Love that necklace and your shoes are awesome.

  13. Our weather felt a little fall like over the weekend and some rain for today as well… back to sun tomorrow and the high humidity temps by mid week right into our Labor Day weekend:) I have a feeling it will be a roller coaster for awhile… love this look and oh those shoes❤️

  14. Please show more of the monochromatic outfits, love the look not too confident in putting it together. I am a red head and thinking khaki toned
