Picking the Right Shoe-Part Two

Happy Wednesday, friends! Well, yesterday we had a lot of interesting discussion on picking the right shoe, but I did get some good questions so I thought we would address them today.

First, I think it’s important to know when it comes to fashion there aren’t any rules. You can dress how you choose and how you feel comfortable. I also have said this before, but I never say never when it comes to fashion. Fashion is fun and should be an extension of your personality.

I have found some things that work best for me since I’ve been in this fashion business for several years. I prefer a nude or some shade of tan shoe 75% of the time. A younger fashion blogger will wear a skirt with black booties, and they can rock that look, but I don’t feel like it’s my best look.

I recently styled this dress, and while I think the black heel works, I think it gives you a look at how nude shoes elongate. You’re drawn to the floral dress in the first picture but not as much in the second one.

BP Floral dress (I’m wearing a small)//Earrings//Handbag//Block heel sandal (TTS, less expensive option here)//Nude heels (similar option here)//Faux Leather Jacket(runs small, I’m wearing a medium)//Strapless Bra

Of course, I will wear a black heel. This dress was on the shorter side, so I didn’t want to elongate my legs too much.

Roselyn Weaver Smocked Neck Tie Waist Dress (I’m wearing a small, but I could size down)//Black Heel( limited sizes, here and here)//Bracelets//Earrings (no longer available)

It would have been easy to put black shoes with this dress, but I felt a light shoe looked better.

Cheetah Print Dress (I’m wearing a small)//Black Crew Neck Sweater (I’m wearing a small)Vince Camuto Open Toe Bootie (similar option here)//Earrings//Bracelets//Satchel

These pictures are older so I don’t have outfit links because they’re sold out. Several of you asked about black tights and would I wear black heels with black tights? Absolutely! I also love black booties with black pants and jeans.

Here’s another look at a different color bootie. While I think the red bootie works, it does stand out, and I think a black bootie would have made the outfit flow better. But sometimes it’s fun to step out of the box.

Of course, it’s safe to say I’ll choose animal print any day!

I hope this helps. Wear what you feel good in, and I know you’ll look fabulous!

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to stop by my blog. I’m also on FacebookPinterest, and, Instagram.

Beauty For the Heart~~There has been so much already said about this day. I don’t think any of us will forget where we were on September 11th, 2001 and I am praying for the families today that lost loved ones on Sept. 11th.

I read where someone said they never want another 9/11, but they miss 9/12. Stores ran out of flags to sell because everyone wanted a flag. People were Americans before they were Democrat or Republican. We hugged people without caring if they ate at Chick-Fil-A or wore Nikes.

We need to practice Mark 12:30-31 more than ever, “And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”

Have a blessed day!

  1. Love this! I think also that the style of the shoe makes a big difference too along with color. I see your point in all these. One thing I would like to know. When doing an all black dress like for an event like one of your pics that is dressy….do you do full fledged opaque tights or a sheerer version depending on the dressier pump type of shoe.? Thanks for answering my question? 🙂

  2. I love camo but concerned if it is age appropriate for me. I’m 5’3”, weigh 138 pounds and I am 68. I wear size 8-10 petites. I think camo is fun but don’t want to appear to be trying to look to young. I’d appreciate your thoughts.

  3. I love the help on the shoes! I always tend to buy black shoes thinking they go with everything. I plan to lighten up my look. Thank you!

  4. Wow what a great post. I too am a visual learner and your side by sides and different shots just make it so obvious to me. You look great in every picture. I often wonder how many shots it takes for you to get a good photo to post haha!! The BFTH comments are perfect.

  5. Hi Cyndi,
I personally think you look great in everything, but I see how the lighter shoe elongates the leg and draws your eyes up! Thank you for the visual for those of us that are visual learners. Today was indeed an anniversary of tragedy, but 9/12 is an anniversary of unity and solidarity that we still need. <3

  6. Hi Cyndi…Love your blog! Can you recommend someone we “narrow” width gals can find shoes that are reasonably priced? I can’t afford $200 for a pair of shoes and the only styles I find all look old and dated. I’d like something fashionable. I live in the area of a major city, but Nordstroms is usually too expensive…IF they have a narrow width. Thank you!

    1. Deborah,
I also have narrow feet. I have found several shoe styles similar to the ones Cyndi currently models at Naturalizer.com and they are available in narrow width. They fit well and have lasted all season. They also offer sales often if you subscribe to their email. Hope this helps.

  7. Cyndi that was one of your best blogs.
I agreed with everything you said because
you made it so obvious. Your scripture verses at the end summed it up.
I thank you very much, so much for this blog. It gave me needed information,
Hugs & love on this day of mourning
I am Canadian. Our country felt like Americans did and do, we are neighbours
18 years ago and every year since 😘

  8. You look lovely Cyndi, and your message for today is so appropriate.
Thank you Cyndi. May the souls of all those who lost their lives 18 years ago today rest in peace. Amen.

  9. Super 2 day shoe post! Glad I didn’t fail with my black tights a few years back. Our daughter got married in a river bottom forest setting in Nov ’16. It was a bit chilly but I was comfy in a look very similar to your black dress, black tights and heels, but I wore booties. Super super BFTH!! We fly our flag year round at home and I was pleased to see at work our 3 flags, USA, Calif & company were all at half-staff today. Thank you for sharing these easy fashion comparisons. You do such a great job.

  10. Great 2 day post. Lately I’ve noticed I am gravitating more toward lighter neutral tone footwear as opposed to black. It’s a mind shift and has taken me out of habit and former comfort zone. It’s good to update our look.
Thank you for your mention of 911. I agree with the sentiment of being an American first and a sense of kindness to all, particularly in these days where unkindness and hatred seems to run rampant. This morning I said a memorial prayer and fully intended to put out our flag. I got sidetracked and didn’t get to it. When you mentioned “flags” I nearly catapulted out of my seat. The flag was out by 8:15 am. 🇺🇸

  11. Thanks for another great post. I love the side by side pictures. Yes remembering this day so many years ago and all the many who lost their lives and lives that were forever changed.
    Blessings
    Karen❤️

  12. First of all, wonderful BFTH-thank you. I also love your shoe series-very helpful. I tend to always go for the black shoes but I see how the nude shoes look really great with many outfits and I am going to start wearing more of the nude color than the black Thank you for the advice and pictures!

  13. Really helpful! Thanks for all the illustrations. And thank you Cyndi for always pointing us back to what matters the most with Beauty for the Heart. ♥️

  14. I love this information. I would buy tons of shoes, well maybe not tons, but to many to match my pants. The purpose was to make my legs look longer. I’m short enough. And you showed how to make this work with nude shoes. Thank you!

  15. Loved this shoe series! I never gave much thought to your points and now I see them! I always love Beauty for the Heart!

  16. Love your post! I live the all black top and trousers with leopard heel. Outstanding!
You look amazing and it’s encouraging me to get back into FWTFL!

    1. Cyndi, this series was very informative. I’m more of a visual learner so seeing the comparison photos along with your narrative about what works best and why, really nailed it. I would love to see more posts showing excellent vs so-so options regarding other fashion categories.,Enjoy lunch with Colt today! 😊

  17. Love the shoe post & especially your Beauty for the heart today. I would only add that I’m additionally praying for our military families as well. That day changed our lives as well with the resulting deployments to the middle east & the many lives lost in Iraq & Afghanistan. The ripple effect is still felt in our lives.
