5 Tips To Help You With a Daily Quiet Time

Hi ladies! I have talked about this topic before, but it’s one that many of us struggle with, it’s having a quiet time. It sounds simple, so why do we struggle?

I try to study scripture and have my prayer time (I pray more throughout the day, but I want to start it with prayer) first thing in the morning. If I’m not careful, I can let emails, social media, work, etc. take priority.

Believe me, the enemy would like nothing more than to keep us so busy, that we never open our Bible.

If we want to look more like Christ, we have to spend time with him, and there’s no better way than reading scripture.

Psalm 119:105  tells us, Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

There is no wrong or right way but here are 5 Tips To Help You With a Daily Quiet Time.

5 Tips To Help You With a Daily Quiet Time

1. Find a Place- Pick a specific spot in your home that is comfortable and free from distractions. Make this your special place.

2. Pick a time of day- I’m a morning person, and I like to begin my day in God’s word. It’s the first thing I do every morning. I grab my cup of coffee and spend time reading His word and praying.

The time of day is not important but just find a time that works for you.

3. Use a Study BibleA study Bible has application notes, personality profiles, and charts. For everyday reading, I use the New Living Translation.

4. Use a Devotional Guide- I like the structure of using a devotional guide, but I like one that encourages me to read more than one verse. It’s important that we READ scripture. I love the Youversion bible app.

5. Discipline- Commit to doing your quiet time consistently for at least 30 days. Try it every day without exception whether you feel like it or not.

Having a daily quiet time will not be easy. It will require sacrifice, but the more you do it, the more it will become a part of your daily schedule.

I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11

Have a blessed day!

  1. Thank you for this, Cyndi. I haven’t opened my Bible in months. My husband and I go to church, but even that has become sporadic. Not having that daily time with God is a huge hole in my life, yet I continue to let so many other things (social media included) take its place. It does help to have the support and accountability from others to stay on track, though. Thanks, again, for the post. :0)

  2. Cyndi I love mornings I will get up early grab my cup of coffee my Bible and my devotional and sit in my chair and read. The way my chair sits I can also watch the sun rise. I would love a new devotional study.. Thank you for sharing

  3. I’m reading through the Bible right now for the first time and it has helped me in understanding a lot of the scriptures that really didn’t make a lot of sense before. I am really enjoying spending time in Gods word. I’m also doing the Bible study “Steadfast Love” by Lauren Chandler with a group of ladies from our church. I’ve never heard of Simple Seminary but it sounds amazing!!

  4. Hi Cyndi, I loved Sunday’s post and I downloaded First 5 app this morning. So weird, it mentions Daniel 10, which was the 2nd time I heard Daniel 10 this morning. Earlier I was listening to a podcast of Derek Prince and he was talking about Daniel 10. I think the Lord was speaking to me through you about the importance of persevering in prayer. Thank you for recommending First 5. I really like this and think it will be helpful for me.

  5. I love morning devotional in the morning, you hit the nail on the head with social media distractions and just one game of solitaire!

  6. God often sends us a “nudge” or a “message” through others. I’m feeling a bit convicted. Unfortunately, I waiver with my daily devotions. Thank you for a sweet reminder.

  7. Good morning! I am very interested in the simple seminary giveaway.

    God bless you always.
Thank you for all you do.

    Cindy

  17. I’m trying hard to keep my am quiet time routine, but the mornings when my grandson comes over are difficult. He comes early and the whole day goes with him. Your tips will help me to make time in the evenings for the days my mornings are busy.

  18. Love today’s post. I try to have my quiet time in the morning as well. I love what another Blogger said that has really challenged me. She said we eat 3 meals a day so it seems only appropriate to feed our soul 3 times a day, if only reviewing a verse we pulled out from our morning devotions! It makes sense to me! Thank you Cyndi for your generous opportunity on the give away. It sounds wonderful and I’d love to try it! When I enter your drawings, I never know if I’m to comment before or after submitting my entry. I hope it doesn’t matter. Have a blessed Sunday!

  19. Thank you, Cyndi, for such a lovely blog and for your commitment to sharing your faith. I used to consider Bible reading/devotional/prayer time as a necessary responsibility of being a ‘good Christian”. Now after many years of consistent Bible time, I find I could no longer go without it than I could food or rest. It is truly sustenance to me now. This has been a year of great loss for me and I truly don’t know how I would make it without God’s Word and his promises of peace and comfort, both in reading the Bible and in Scripture that I have memorized and can call to mind for help and reassurance.

As far as making time, it helps to schedule it in your day like anything else you intend to do. I am also a coffee + Bible person first thing in the morning. It also is much easier to accomplish with no more Littles in the house (I have found that teenagers never wake me up raring to go, haha). I am very strict with myself about not going on my phone or computer, even just to quickly check email, before my devotional time because as we all know that can easily get you started in another direction and it’s hard to get back. Mostly, though, it’s best to just do what you can because a little is better than none at all, and pray that the Lord will help you have a consistent time. “The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.” Lam. 3:25

    1. Julie you are so right! A little is better than none at all.

And I understand loss as I have had a lot of loss over the last several years. I don’t know how I would have gotten through it without Jesus, He is Living Water.

  20. I often find that a lot of the women bible studies are more about fellowship( then really digging deep into the bible and love the concept of Simple Seminary!!

  21. The first thought that came to my mind when beginning to sign up for this giveaway was ~ I would love to win this Bible study program!! Thank you for offering this Cyndi and for telling us about it and for always pointing us to Jesus.

    1. I read the Bible every day to my children during our homeschooling day, yet find myself not reading the Bible for my own quiet time.

Thanks for a chance to win this. It would be something to do for me.

  22. Thank you for the good tips. There is nothing more important than time with God. If we seek Him first He will give us the wisdom and strength for the day.

  23. Excellent post. I, too, struggle with this. I have a question. Any one know how to copy and print portions of the article. I would like to print out the 5 points and put with my Bible & notebook. Nothing I try works. Can anyone help?

  24. Thank you, Cyndi. This topic has been on my heart. I struggle with consistency even though I love the Lord with all my heart. I appreciate your encouragement and the giveaway.

  25. This program sounds so inspiring! I have difficulty finding time to spend reading God’s word and thoroughly understanding it. I read the words but don’t always know if I am interpreting it correctly. This study tool would be of great help in that respect.

  26. Loved your message today. I would like to learn more about this simple seminary. It is so true how we need to find time for God and read our bible. It helps the day go so much better. Thank you for sharing! 🙂

  27. This would be great for me during this season of my life. I wasn’t able to get to a page to enter to be chosen for the Simple Seminary membership.

  28. The older I get the more I realize how important quiet time is to me. Studying God‘s word and understanding it’s relevance to my life is invaluable. Thank you for this opportunity

  29. I really struggle with quiet time. I get up super early so I can work an early shift for my job, but as soon as I leave work it is off to get kiddos from school. I’ve tried getting up earlier, but am so tired that I nod off during my quiet time. I have found I do better just saying short prayers throughout the day. I do read the Bible pretty much everyday, but I feel I need to do more.

  30. My days just seem to go better when I start it off in God’s word and prayer. It gives me the strength to face the day. I can always tell when I am not spending enough time in God’s word because I feel anxious, overwhelmed, and unsettled. This study tool would be a great resource to help understand His word and prioritize my quiet time with God.

  31. Thank you for your blog! It is spiritually enlightening. I am inspired by your fashion tips as well. Keep up the great work.

  32. The rewards of us spending daily time in prayer and Gods Word are endless yet that’s sometimes the first thing we tend to put to the side if we get busy. I will be the first to admit I’ve done that. Lord help all of us to make time in our every day for You because that is the only thing that has an everlasting importance. Amen.

I’d LOVE to win that Simple Seminary membership.

  33. I definitely struggle with quiet time too. I like to meditate a little each day, nothing complicated, just about 15 minutes. It’s surprizing though, how many days I don’t make time for it. I’ve recently made it part of my morning routine and that’s helping a lot. Have a great Sunday.
