Mixing High And Low Fashion

Happy Monday, ladies! Today I’m talking about mixing high and low fashion. I like to wear some pieces that are under $50 and affordable, while also accessorizing with a few higher-end pieces.

I like to save on clothing and splurge on my accessories like jewelry or shoes. For instance, I have these Kendra Scott hoops in gold and silver. I wear them all the time, and I know I’ll keep them for years.

I love trendy clothing, but I don’t want to spend a fortune because chances are it will be out of style this time next year. (Although my dress today isn’t trendy but inexpensive.)

Accessories, on the other hand – are more likely to stay in style for a longer period of time because they are classic and timeless. (I will splurge on a pair of jeans that I know I will wear for years.)

I’m wearing a plaid sleeveless sundress from Amazon that’s under $25, and I styled it with my Tory Burch sandals.

These tory Burch sandals are a splurge, but they are a staple piece for me in the summer. I have had them for several years, and I love wearing them with my sundresses and shorts.

Cost per wear, I have definitely gotten my money’s worth!

My earrings are from J.Crew, they’re sold out, but this pair is similar.

The dress is fully lined and so comfortable!

What are your thoughts on mixing high and low fashion? Would you be more likely to spend money on accessories/shoes/handbags or the clothes themselves?

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to stop by my blog. I’m also on FacebookPinterest, and Instagram.

  1. I would love a good whitening product also. My teeth are so sensitive also. I also have the coffee stains. Love your Beauty for the Heart. It’s amazing how much you use from the Bible in your daily life. Love the dress. Looks so cool for this time of the year. Hope you have a nice day. God Bless You and Your Family. Stay Safe!! ❤🌻🌹

  2. Was wondering if you could recommend a teeth whiting that doesn’t make your teeth over sensitive? Yours are so white and I know you are a dental hygienist from before. I need to whiten, but don’t want to be harmful to my tooth enamal and I’ve heard the sensitivity from some is terrible. Coffee sure stains.

  3. Such a cute dress.. I agree there are things that splurging on as investment pieces makes sense. It probably helps to know they are timeless and aren’t going anywhere too soon either:)

  4. I definitely splurge on shoes, if I really like them and they are comfortable. It depends on clothes. I look for quality with the price. I won’t buy cheap, just because I get the good deal. There is plenty of quality clothing out there with great sales these days. No reason to buy cheap. I love this dress on you, but for my age, I just think it would look too young on me and you live in the South and can get away with that style easier. 🙂 Ive never heard of that clothing company you mentioned this dress looked like, founded by Reese Witherspoon. Have you ever order clothes from there? They are so cute. My granddaughters name is Reese. 🙂

  5. Such a cute dress. I will probably order. I usually spend more on my jewelry basic pieces. Not so much on purses and shoes because styles change each season.

  6. This dress is so pretty and versatile. I need to spend more time finding good accessories like you mentioned..

Would you consider an update on the essentials oils you use and how to use them? Also any supplements you feel are helpful for women. Most women I know battle fatigue, weight gain and moods.

    Thank You!

  7. I agree that handbags, jewelry, and shoes better stand the test of time. As far as clothing, I think it’s important to look at quality of fabrics and workmanship. For trendy pieces, go for less expensive but pieces that will be worn for several years are worth the spend. I have found that buying more expensive things that I truly love and wear is better than impulse buying with trends that won’t last. And there have been some great sales lately!

  8. So cute. Just ordered the yellow version. I had seen this dress on another blog and was afraid it was too young for us “older” girls, but then it looked so cute on you, that I had to give it a try. The yellow one was even cheaper!!!! I agree spending a bit more on accessories is okay. I tend to up the game a bit on some of my jewelry that I wear frequently. Shoes have to be comfortable so really cheap is not the way to go.

  9. Adorable outfit on you. I mix it up on quality/pricing. I have these same sandals, as well as, Rose Gold. I wear both frequently. Most of my purses are good quality leather bags. In my teen years I worked in a jewelry store so I gravitate to better quality costume jewelry and fine jewelry. I look at a clothing item for frequency of use vs price. I never want something for cheaps sake and will not wear patterns that don’t line up, uneven hems, poor sewing, etc. Details give the $ away – loud and clear. My fav jeans are AG, Kut and ON Rockstar super skinny. I own several ON tee shirt swing dresss. Blouses from Loft – they are the prettiest. Dresses by Eliza J & some cute JCP dresses you’ve featured. Daily Ritual & Good Threads by Amazon. That gorgeous V neck off white cable pullover from Target last fall and their V neck tees. I look for classic styled pieces but enjoy a few trends along the way. Clothes cannot look cheap or too cute. I like Talbots quality but find most of their line too matronly and I’m 60.
Your posts are always helpful and you help keep me stylin 😉. Thank you.
