Top 5 Best Self Tanners for the Perfect Glow

Hi ladies! It’s time to get our summer glow on! I don’t know about you, but I gave up laying out in the sun for hours and hours and tanning beds years ago.

This time of year, I rely on self tanners. There are so many good ones out there, but I’ve rounded up 5 of the best self tanners to help you get that perfect glow!

These self-tanners are easy to use, streak-free, and will leave behind a natural-looking glow.

Top 5 Best Self Tanner for the Perfect Glow

1. Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Drops |  I have these tanning drops, and they work really well. It’s nice to add them to your lotion, and you don’t have to wear a mitt to put this on. (You do need to wash your hands after using.) I use the dark, but they also have medium and light drops.

2. St. Tropez Self Tanner | I have not used this self tanner, but it has great reviews. It’s a tinted tanning mousse and is easy-to-apply, streak-free, and adapts to your skin tone for up to 10 days: no self tan smell and best for first-time tanners.

3. Tan Ceuticals Self Tanner | I have heard so many great things about Tan Ceuticals, and I just ordered it. I can’t wait to try it out. I’ve also heard the self tanner for the face is good, too, so I’ve ordered it.

Tan Ceuticals says it doesn’t come off on clothes or bedsheets!

4. Minetan Self Tanner | I have used Minetan for several years, and I love it! It has a light coconut smell, and it gives you a dark tan. I use this olive one, but there are more options, and I recently ordered this one.

5. Loving Tan Self Tanner | I have heard so many good things about Loving Tan, and I have to say that this is my favorite self tanner right now. It is so good and has NO smell. It gives you a dark tan! It comes in a dark color (that’s what I’m using) and a medium color.

  1. Hi Cyndi,
Do you put up the drops in a whole bottle of lotion, or just the amount of lotion you’re applying at that time?

    Thanks!

  2. I’ve been a fan of the Jergens daily glow for years. I know I’m in the minority here! I don’t like the fake tan look and being in Texas, the orangey or fake look is easy to spot as our sun is harsh. I use jergens and mix it with my daily lotion to cut the orange. It gives me just enough color for my legs and arms to feel confident in shorts and tanks without being overdone. It does smell a bit, but mixing it with lotion helps. I’m a redhead so do this every other day to keep the color even. Works for me 👍🏻

  3. Cyndi, YES! I submitted you to The Sephora Squad! BTW My husband and I just got back from a trip to Kentucky visiting our son and his new home. What a beautiful state you live in! We are from the Boston area and had never been to your beautiful state. 💐

  4. Any one (besides me) get a rash from self tanners? I have tried several different ones
And get an allergic itchy rash 🙁 Just hoping someone who has super sensitive skin has tried these ones?

    1. I also have the same reaction. I have tried so many and have not found one that does not create a rash yet. I did wonder about the self tanning drops that could be added to lotion. I have less of a reaction if the product is mixed with lotion. If I order, I will come back to leave another comment and let you know how I do.

  5. Cyndi, what is the body lotion that you recommended? It was mentioned by Kathy. I somehow missed that. Thanks!

  6. Cyndi, how often do you apply your self tanner? Is it best fresh out of the shower after drying off?
    Thank you!

      1. Thank you for sharing your input about the self tanners! Perfect timing!
I submitted to the Sephora squad for you. You’d be an asset! Good luck!

    1. From my own experience, I recommend not applying self tanner right out of the shower. Your legs need to be dry or you won’t get much color. I do it the night before or several hours after a shower.

  7. Thank you again for perfect timing on this post! I’ve been thinking of giving self tanners a go again after many years of not using because I couldn’t stand the smell. So happy to see that a couple of your options (Isle of Paradise and Loving Tan) are both cruelty-free, too! I’m going to try the Isle of Paradise.

    1. Michele….I was going to try the Isle of Paradise too because it said cruelty free. I don’t know how they can say that after you read all the ingredients. I just can’t put something on my body with that many ingredients you can’t even pronounce. I guess I’ll be white until the sun gives me a little color just being outside…..not laying out. Good luck with it. I really thought the drops in our own body lotion sounded great.

  8. Excited to try the Minetan! I ordered that a couple of days ago! Will let all the Cyndi peeps know how it goes for me!

  9. Hi Cyndi,
Wanted to let you know in case anyone else is having this issue.
I have been a subscriber for some time now and just this last week have not been getting your daily emails. I have then resubmitted my email to subscribe and it works for a day and once again I am not getting your emails.
    Am I doing something wrong?
    Thank You

  10. Last spring was the first time at 52 that I tried self tanners! I bought the L’Oréal sublime bronze in the recommendation of another blogger and love it! I apply with no mitt, doesn’t stain and darkens more over a 24-48 period… I was just talking to the cosmetician at our local pharmacy and she had suggested the St. Tropaz and that’s what I’m going to try next. I still enjoy sitting out by the pool and reading so I still get tanned( and I always apply sunscreen) but the backs of my legs don’t always get tanned so I use the self tanner for that.. this time of year it’s just still too cold to be sitting out! I sent a testimonial for the Sephora Squad yesterday.. Good luck keep us posted!!!💕

  11. I would love to hear from your “pasty white” followers about their favorite self tanners. We need something very light in texture and color! As you can imagine, I’m super fair and have little melanin pigment. Just want a little color on my legs. Thanks!

    1. I’m pretty white also. I used the Coconut self tanner last year, but i think i’m going to try the loving tan this year. The Coconut allows you to choose how long you want to leave it on, (Up to e hours), so you could start with 1 hour and see how that does for you. It sounds to me like the Loving Tan works the same way!!! Good luck!!!

    2. Hi Anne, I just tried isle of paradise light for the first timebecause I wanted to give my legs a bit of a tan when I wear skirts. I had to experiement with the right number of drops and lotion ratio. Start small and increase as you go to figure it out. My light skin is maybe a shade darker than normal, so it looks natural for this season. Good luck! I highly recommend this product, super easy to use like Cyndi described.

  12. Sounds like these all are great products. I’ve always hated the smell of self tanners and when I went CLEAN on all my make-up etc. I decided not to use self tanners, as I didn’t know what I was putting on my body to allow it to turn color. I’m still wondering if I should try any of these, but this time of year, well, even in the Summer, I really need some color, especially on my legs. I don’t like to sit or lay out in the sun anymore either. I’m thinking maybe the drops in my own scent free lotion might be good for me. I use the body lotion you recommended awhile back you order from Amazon and its great. I love how I can get the one without scent and such a big bottle. Thanks for this very informative write up. I left a testimonial for you and hope you get the position of ambassador on the Sephora Squad. You’d be great.

    1. I just submitted a review for the Sephora Squad. You deserve it. Thanks for always featuring items at all different price points. I’m starting my own blog sometime soon and have learned so much from you! Good luck Cyndy!

  13. Is it just me, or have these self tanners gotten more expensive? I have been using Minetan ever since you recommended it and I really like it.
I gave a testimony for the Sephora squad for you. You would be great. Good luck!

  14. Love the Isle of Paradise Body Butter – i have their oils too and they are soooo good and easy to apply. I don’t like a fake looking tan and these are easily controlled and for me, streak free.
