Fall Fashion Trends: Women Over 40

Happy Monday, ladies! It’s officially August, and that means fall is right around the corner. Today I’m sharing some fall fashion trends.

This is what we will see in the next few months. It’s not an exhaustive list, and you don’t need to add all these trends to your fall wardrobe, but it’s just some trends you’ll see in the stores.

Fall Fashion Trends

1. Sweater VestsVests are everywhere this fall. Add a collared button-down or t-shirt under the vest, or wear the vest alone.

2. CutoutsThis is another trend you’ll see on tops and sweaters. You’ll also see some cutouts on the back of tops and sweaters too.

3. Oversized BlazersThese blazers have been popular for a while, and I’m so glad they’re still trending. I love an oversized blazer with denim.

4. Blush PinkThis pretty color is trending for fall. You’ll see blush pink tops, sweaters, dresses, and bags. I’m also seeing slate blue and olive green.

5. Chunky Cable KnitsWhen the weather turns cold, grab a cable knit sweater; the chunkier, the better this fall and winter.

6. DenimWell, denim is always popular in the fall, but this year it’s denim everything. Denim jackets, tops, jumpsuits, and so on. Denim on denim is popular where you wear a denim top and jeans.

The denim styles are leaning toward a more relaxed fit, but skinny jeans will still be around.

7. Lug Sole BootsThis style boot with a chunky heel is definitely having a moment this year. I don’t love them at the moment, but I know they’ll grow on me.

8. Button-Front CardigansShort button front cardigans are still on-trend.

A few more trends I’m seeing are fringe, leopard print, and cargo pants.

What do you think about this year’s trends for fall?

  1. I’m smiling as I read through all the comments and see differences and similarities. It’s great we all can share gracefully and embrace the differences we have. Thank your sharing the fall trends. Can’t wait to see you style them. Prayers continue for sweet Caroline. Can’t wait to see pictures of that sweet baby!

  2. Cyndi,

I am so happy I found your page. I have been feeling sorry for myself while I am home due to Covid exposure and testing positive. Your blog and fashion tips lifted my spirits so much. I’ve ordered a ton of new outfits thanks to you. Looking forward to the Fall with new look on life and style.

Thank you and happy belated birthday!

    Lu

  3. Thanks Cyndi for the BFTH….needed it today after many days of migraines. It discourages me for sure. I’m so happy Courtney and Caroline are doing so well. Prayers continued for them and you too, as you are helping them with food and baby-sitting etc. God is good. My 1st grandchild was premie and she was told at least a month in the NICU, but came home in 2 weeks. She will be 2 yrs. old Aug. 11th and so happy and healthy and my biggest blessing. I’m with you, I’m not liking the chunky boots out this Fall and I don’t think I’ll be doing the sweater vest. LOL I will be wearing my skinny jeans as I’m having a hard time finding jeans I like and work for my height and boots this Fall. Have a good week.

  4. Thanks! I appreciate you because you have so many price options. I really love the cut out trend. I already have a couple of cut out tops. Also, I’m beginning to like the olive green.
Don’t worry, your granddaughter is God’s daughter. HE will take care of her. She will be in your arms before you know it! XOXO! 😘

  5. Prayers for your new granddaughter & your family. God bless your new little one😇
Fall trends ! Yes!!! Well not so much the cut out style tops and sweater vests BUT sure will be so fun to shop for a few new things – You are my style guru 😊

  6. Praying for your precious Caroline!
I wonder about the medium to longer cardigans? Are they still on trend? I have several that I just love but don’t don’t want to look out dated! I know it really is all about what I LIKE TO WEAR but I also want to look current 🙂

  7. While I’m not too sure about some of the new trends I’m anxious to see how you style them! One I probably won’t get on board with is the cut outs🤷‍♀️.
So glad to hear Courtney is doing better. Continuing to lift up her and her husband and herCaroline in prayer! It’s comforting to her I’m sure to know their baby is getting the best care and most importantly she’s in Gods care❤️

  8. Hi, Cindy! The lug sole boots will not be the first trend I will go out and buy! Just too chunky and awkward for me. I still like a bootie. This is just my opinion but I will be so glad when the cropped tops are out of here. They cut me off in a place that is not flattering on me. Although I’m thin I will always be a pear shape and it’s not the best look on me. My favorite trend is denim on denim and the longer blazers. Thanks for showing us what’s trending in the fashion world!💗 Prayers going up for sweet Caroline!

    1. I’m not sure I like the lug boots yet either. I think they’d have a manly trucker look on me, and that’s not a style I feel I can pull off. Lol! The Tory Burch ones look a bit more feminine but are pretty high (in height and price) so I don’t think I’d get enough wear out of them to justify. Extra prayers here for Miss Caroline. 😌

  9. I am not so sure about some of these “trends” but what I am sure about is that you will help us style them in a way that is cute and age appropriate. I will wait to decide:) Prayers for Caroline and your family.

  10. Interesting fall items…. Guess I should have saved all those oversized blazers…LOL. Yes everything does come back in style. The sweaters are cute, though they look quite bulky. Never say never…right? Totally agree about the boots….at my seasoned age I doubt I would wear them. But you can still ROCK them!

    1. I’m so glad Baby Caroline is making her way through!Jesus and the Virgin Mary shall take care of her,so she will grow healthy and happy.Amen.

  11. Well I am probably not going to do fringe again. I got rid of all fringed clothing. Last time it was trending I realized that fringe is not really my style except in jewelry. I didn’t care for it in clothes, scarves, or boots. I like tassels, though. Not a fan of oversized blazers either, but I do like a normal fitting blazer occasionally.

  12. The trend I’m most excited about is the sweater vest! Hope you’ll consider sharing the menu (and recipes?) for the meal you’re taking to your daughter’s family. I often take small meals to a family ad am looking for some new ideas. I always enjoyed it when you shared your Sunday dinners. Continued prayers for Caroline!

    1. I hope it’s ok to jump in here. You might be interested in the blog Stone Gable. It’s mainly a decorating blog, but Yvonne shares a weekly menu, with lots of great ideas and links. There’s a tab at the top for recipes. Or scroll through her posts to see her weekly menus.

  13. I’m so glad baby Caroline is doing well! PTL!

I’m not crazy about most of the newest trends, to be honest. The chunky style boots look fine on younger gals, but I just think they look strange on some us older ones! LOL…The bubble sleeve sweaters are ok. Crop cardis- nah… cover this belly please!! LOL!

Thanks for the updates- and blessings!!!

  14. Thanks for the Fall trends post. It’s fun to see new trends! I’m not sure about the sweater vest and I know I don’t care for the lug sole boots but I could make the other trends work.
Praying for your sweet Caroline that she continues to grow and thrive so she can come home soon!

  15. Thanks Cyndi for fall fashion ideas, I like the chunky cable knit sweater pics and beauty for the heart is worth passing along to others..helps lift us up from our burdens and may the good Lord touch your precious grandchild with healing Wings.🙏
Good Shepherd, Jesus, we know you will lead us beside quiet places and restore our soul and body. We trust you and want to follow your leading.Amen.
    Maureen💕

  16. Many many prayers continuing for your sweet new baby!!!! I absolutely LOVE the chunky boots and sweaters!!! Hope they will have some in a long length for us tall ladies!!! Blessings!!!

  17. Love a chunky cable knit sweater, beautiful & timeless. Not a fan of cutouts. I put in same category as the cold shoulder style. A huge No for me but just MHO. I ordered a pair of leather & lug sole boots that appear to be on the lesser side of clunky. We’ll see how that works when they arrive. I’m hoping they’ll fill a wardrobe void between dressier fall boots and actual winter weather boots. Thanks for posting the anticipated trends, always fun to pick & choose.
Blessings to your Sweet Caroline for continued growth & good health. Blessings to your family.

  18. Praying for your family. We have a grandson who was in the NICU and had open heart surgery a week after he was born. He is a thriving, crazy 3 year old now. Side note: don’t like most of these fall trends.

  19. I don’t see a big change from fall items last year, except for the boots and they are definitely not my style.
Glad mom and baby are doing well.
