5 Ways to Transition your Wardrobe from Summer to Fall: Women Over 40

Today, I’m sharing 5 Ways to Transition your Wardrobe from Summer to Fall. While fall doesn’t officially arrive until September,  I like to start getting some transition pieces ready for the upcoming cooler weather.

Here are 5 Ways to Transition your Wardrobe from Summer to Fall

• Wear Fall Tones

This is an easy one! What better way to channel the new season than with an autumnal color palette? Don’t shy away from bringing the fall tones into your everyday summer-to-fall transitional outfits.

V-Neck Shirt  (I’m wearing a small) • High Waisted Wide Leg Crop Pant (I’m wearing a size 6) • Earrings • Slide Sandal • Leopard Belt

This dress can be worn right now with a sandal and then transition it to fall with boots and a denim jacket.

Roan + Ryan Emberly Dress (I’m wearing a small) • Vince Camuto Scrunch Knee Boot

• Wear A Shacket

The shacket became popular last year, and it’s not slowing down this year. I prefer a slightly more fitted shacket and this cam one from EVEREVE is a great transitional piece.

• Wear An Oversized Blazer

I love adding a blazer to my outfits, and fall is a perfect time to wear a graphic tee or camisole and add a blazer.

  1. I usually won’t start wearing transitional pieces until late August or early September… all depends on how warm our weather is! It’s nice to have the fall tones to wear! My go to is a denim jacket, or cardigan! Also mules, and sneakers replace my sandals….

  2. Fall colors and mules or loafers are my go to fall transitions in our warm climate.

  3. I purchased 2 pair of these pants from Old Navy and they stretched out very weird in the belly area. I tried a size 8 but they still “pooched” out.

  4. I bought the Ryan and Roan Emberly dress last week. So cute. I bought it possibly, for my daughter’s bridal shower at the end of September. Everything I see is either very dressy or casual. Any input you might have on some dress options would be great.
I’m a little unsure if I like the material. That’s what happens when your mom sewed her whole life. She makes you very picky about fabrics.

  5. Great transition ideas. I will probably uythe tulip sleeve top from Amazon. Won’t spend $148 on the oversized blazer which will probably be in and out again. Hoping you will give cheaper options soon.

  6. Hi Cyndi! I like wearing mules, boots, jeans, and light weight jackets while transitioning to fall. Also I like wearing long sleeve tops with shorts. Unfortunately I don’t look good in fall colors so I stick with blue, black, grey, and cool tone reds when possible.

  7. Transitiioning has always been hard for me. When the calendar says Fall but the temps are still saying 90’s. 🙂 LOL Its hard to want to dress in fall colors. Good tips.

    1. I live in Florida….I transition from one bathing suit to another….not that many Fall colors sold here!
