Fall Color Trend to Try: Rust

Happy Labor Day! I hope you’re enjoying some time off today. We don’t have any plans, and I hope to get some things done around the house.

Today on the blog, I’m teaming up with Jo-Lynne Shane to share a fall color trend. Each Monday in September we’ll share a color trend to add to your wardrobe this fall.

Fall Color Trend to Try: Rust

My sweater is from J.Crew and is cashmere. This is a sweater I can keep for years, but J.Crew Factory has a cotton/wool/nylon blend that is less expensive. The rust color is called Heather Burnished Rust.

I styled the rust sweater 5 different ways to show the versatility of this color. First, I styled it with jeans and chunky boots. I purchased these boots during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale for $99.

Beauty For the Heart~~ The Bible is full of scripture on rest. Rest is good for our soul.

Matthew 11:28-30 says, Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Let your beauty shine from the inside out today.

  1. I went shopping this weekend and came home with nothing. I can’t seem to find denim jeans that don’t remind me of “Mom” jeans. But, you always look cute!! All of these outfits look great! My favorite is the plaid shirt, sweater and mules. I’m going to have to search some old posts because I think you wrote one on denim!

  2. I love how you showed this sweater worn so many different ways. All ideas were cute and showed how versatile a simple sweater can be worn. Thanks!!!

  3. I love the leopard print blouse in your daily finds section, but the link goes to the bottle holder on Amazon. Where can I find the blouse? Thanks!

  4. Thanks for BFTH. Needed it today. Our Pastor also talked about our soul yesterday. It’s been a hard week and my soul needs the rest my Lord can give. I love how you styled the rust sweater so many ways. I don’t look good with this color by my face, but I like it for Fall. This will be a fun Fall series.

  5. Love all these styles of fall that you have put together with one sweater! I could see myself wearing all of them. Thanks so much for always having such great style and inspiration.

  6. I love rust color! Actually, my favorite of these outfits is the one with the distressed jeans! It just looks so comfy and autumn-perfect.
(I agree with other commenters- the short jeans in pic #1 just look off somehow…maybe the tall shaft on the booties?)

  7. Love when you and Jo-Lynne do these collaborations. I don’t wear much rust but I do like it with leopard. I think the first pic through me off because the jeans and boots shorten the length of your legs or maybe it’s because I have short legs and that combination just wouldn’t work for me.
Matthew 11:28 is one of my favorites. Enjoy your Labor Day!

  8. Love all but the first photo with the boots and short jeans. Just looked strange, but that may just be me. I want to find some rust tops this year and was surprised how the plaid shirt looked so great under the rust sweater. Thanks for bringing us these color options.

  9. Love these looks Cyndi! Rust isn’t a color I wear as I usually gravitate more towards the camel color but I may give it a try!
On another note do you still have Gunner? I haven’t seen him in any of your pics or stories lately .
    Enjoy your holiday

  10. This is Great!!! I’ve worn the rust color each Fall since it is a going Autumn color some years ago!! Love it!! Our album brown hair goes perfect with it! I also love the Mustard Color for Fall and all the country colors are always great. Like khaki greens, dusty pinks and peaches and country blues. I Love Autumn. You’re looking very stunning. I did a little shopping in Hamburg last Friday and I also did some garage sale and yard sale Scavenging along Winchester road !!! Have an awesome Labor Day!

    1. I agree with Stacey. And ditch the hat with the dress. That outfit doesn’t need it and is distracting. Love the plaid shirt with the sweater the best. Thanks for all the options.

    2. You look fabulous in all the pics and I love the booties and think your legs look extra long in that pic! Have a great day!!

    3. I agree with Stacey and Sylvia. The first outfit doesn’t look right with those boots. I also thought the hat with the dress was a bit much. But to each their own, right?
