10 Must Have Spring Wardrobe Essentials

I’ve said this before, but the changing seasons are always hard to dress for, and I think spring is the hardest season because the weather is so unpredictable. Plus, here in Kentucky, we typically get lots of rain and wind.

One of the easiest ways to make sure your closet is prepared for the season is to have some spring wardrobe essentials. Once you have your basics, like short sleeve t-shirts, lightweight jackets, and white sneakers, you can start to add in any spring trends that resonate with you.

If you’re unsure where to start with your spring outfits or need to update your spring wardrobe staples, here are the top 10 spring wardrobe essentials I think every woman should have in her closet.

10 Must Have Spring Wardrobe Essentials

1. Short Sleeve T-Shirt

A classic white t-shirt is a go-to piece for all seasons. It looks good by itself, but it’s also a great layering piece.

2. White Sneakers

Sneakers continue to be a huge trend, and a pair of crisp, clean white sneakers will go with all your spring outfits.

3. Spring Sweater or Cardigan

I still need sweaters this time of year, but I put away my wool and heavy sweaters. I love a lightweight sweater or a cardigan in a pretty spring color.

4. Lightweight Jacket

A trench coat is my most-used spring outerwear in spring. I recently purchased this one from J.Crew Factory. A trench coat can easily be thrown over leggings or a complete outfit and tie the look together. I also love a denim jacket, utility jacket, and blazers this time of year.

5. Light Wash Jeans

Lighter washes and primarily straight-leg and cropped jeans styles are trending for spring. The more I wear them, the more I love them, and this pair has been my go-to pair lately.

6. Spring Dresses

Whether running errands, headed out to date night, church, or on vacation, a spring dress is great to have for styling with sandals or sneakers and a jean jacket. I recently picked up this dress from Target, and it’s perfect for spring.

7. Mules and Clogs

This time of year, it’s too cool to wear sandals, and I’m tired of wearing ankle booties, so closed-toe shoes are essential for spring dressing. Mules and clogs are definitely trending for the spring season, but I have to say I’m loving these ballet flats.

8. Transitional Blouse

One of my go-to looks year-round is a statement blouse and simple jeans, so it’s no surprise that one of my spring wardrobe essentials is a beautiful blouse. Go simple with a white button-down, or go feminine with ruffles and smocking.

9. Neutral Handbag

Colorful bags are fun, but I recommend having a neutral handbag for spring. I love a rattan bag this time of year.

10. White Jeans

You can wear white jeans all year these days, but I typically wear mine in the spring and summer. They are a great piece to have in our spring wardrobe, and I’m glad the more relaxed styles are trending; I’m not a fan of tight white jeans.

Beauty for the Heart™– But you, O Lord, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high. Psalm 3:3

Truth: David was not sitting on his throne in this verse; he was running for his life from his rebellious son Absalom. We may not be running, but our circumstances in our life can get difficult. God reminds us that he is our shield; he’s our protector.

My favorite part of this verse is the one who holds my head high. This literally means he brings up or exalts. Today you may not feel worthy, but you ARE. Maybe you have past sin that you still have guilt over, or perhaps you feel “less than.”

But God lifts your head and reminds you that you ARE worthy. Nothing you have done or will do can stop Him from loving YOU.

Today, lift your head high and know that you are a daughter of the King.

  1. Love this post! It’s a great check list to make sure I’m spring and summer ready! I’ve got all the numbers covered.. just bought a light wash crop bootcut jean today! Banana Republic factory has petite so the length is just above my ankles where I like it.. and I just ordered the geometric dress you styled in yesterdays post. It’s so nice seeing all the colors for the upcoming season 🙌🏻
Have a great lunch and enjoy your conference 💕

  2. I like the trench coats and feminine blouses. However not a fan of baby doll type dresses. For one thing I’m too old and I like more fitted dresses. I’m hoping to find a cotton maxi dress that’s appropriate for a 60 plus. I also want an off white or ivory straight leg jean. I never can find them in my size.

  3. I absolutely love this post! Great information regarding spring wardrobe basics. Thanks, Cyndi — I’m off to shop now!

  4. Great post! I have been looking for trench coat and really like J Crew one you got! What size did you get in J Crew trench coat?

    1. First, let all be praying for Ukraine. It’s my focus today. So sad.
I’m glad to see trench coats are still in style. I have one I like from banana republic years ago and it’s a great classic style but I just don’t find myself grabbing it. I’m going to more. I’m not seeing others wearing them much.
Love clogs and block heel mules are in. It’s been too cold here lately to transition into them but hoping to soon. Spring is my hardest transition season for sure. We get a lot of cool, rainy days. We woke up to a dusting of snow this morning which is rare for us in NW Oregon. I’m enjoying it.

  5. I think this was my favorite post of 2022. I found a few spring goodies I want to add to my closet plus if you have these pieces it really helps transition from winter to spring and some can go into summer. Now if I can just find a new pair of straight light washed jeans and petite white jeans that are more on trend, I will be good to go 😃. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your lunch and conference this evening.
