5 Easy Ways to Look Put Together for Women Over 40

This time of year, it’s easy to get into a winter rut. The weather is cold, and we want to live in our cozy loungewear, but we can look polished and put together whether we’re going to work, church, brunch, or even the supermarket.

Here are 5 Easy Ways to Look Put Together for Women Over 40

1. Develop a style uniform

One of the easiest ways to look put together every day is to have a go-to outfit that always looks good. My go-to outfit is always a black top/sweater/blouse with denim or pants. A lot of times, I’ll add a pop of leopard.

Whatever it is, your uniform is a stylish outfit you can fall back on with minimal effort. It should also be something you can adjust for various dress codes and seasons.

2. Find your colors

It’s important to know your best colors. On the days you feel less than stellar, grab a top or sweater in a color that flatters you.

If you’re unsure what color looks best on you, here’s a short breakdown:

  • People with cool skin tones look best in bright blue, emerald, deep purple, lavender, ruby, and bright rose. The best neutrals for them are gray, navy, and white.
  • People with warm skin tones look best in orange, yellow, gold, warm green, and olive. The best neutrals for them are taupe, creamy white, and chocolate.
  • And those with neutral skin tones look best in light peach, dusty pink, jade green, and camo green. The best neutrals for them are creamy white, taupe, and gray.

I feel my best when I’m wearing red or pink.

3. Up your shoe game

A great shoe is the icing on the cake. If it’s done correctly, it’ll blend in with the rest of your outfit.

You don’t have to have a lot of shoes, but you need the right ones. A cute white sneaker, a black and brown bootie, a pair of loafers, sandals, and a nude heel are all great options.

4. Pay attention to your nails

Well-manicured nails show that you pay attention to detail. This doesn’t mean you have to have your nails done at the salon but keep your nails looking nice. If you polish them yourself, don’t wear chipped polish.

I wear Funny Bunny on my nails year-round.

5. Classy Outerwear

The easiest way to look put together this time of year is to throw on a chic coat or jacket.

Adding a coat can take your outfit up a notch, even when wearing a lounge set. I love faux leather coats, teddy coats, and puffer jackets.

Beauty for the Heart™~~“Comfort, comfort my people,” says your God. “Speak tenderly to Jerusalem. Tell her that her sad days are gone, and her sins are pardoned. Yes, the Lord has punished her twice over for all her sins.” Isaiah 40:1-2

Truth: We all crave comfort. From the time we’re born to growing old, we love to be comforted.

God allowed Isaiah to comfort the Israelites. Isaiah had repeatedly warned them sorrow and humiliation awaited because of their sin. Amid their pain and even their disobedience, God promised to comfort them.

God also made a way for us to be comforted through Jesus. John the Baptist came and prepared the way. We, too, can be comforted and know that there is grace even when we sin.

What painful sin do you need forgiveness and comfort for? Thank Him for His unending grace and mercy!

  1. Cyndi: I am a dental hygienist and can’t seem to find a nail polish that holds up well to hand sanitizer. How does yours hold up?

  2. Good fashion advice. I look best in warm tones. I still will wear black and white but I try to have a warm color next to my face. Even gold jewelry will help. I notice when I wear a cool color, my skin looks more yellow. I wear my cool color mistakes at home.

You look great in pink and red. I love red too but only wear warm reds.

  3. This post is right on. Glad you made it to Key West. The fun is in the journey not just the destination. Enjoy the sun while you can.

  4. The nail tip is one that my mom taught me as a kid. I don’t ever wear chipped polish. I remember my mom showing me how to paint my nails and give myself a manicure.
