The first step in establishing your personal style is to start small. Figuring out what works for you can be overwhelming. To start, take a look at your accessories and pick out the pieces you wear the most. Accessories play an important role in understanding your style.

Once you’ve done that, it’s time to walk into your closet and do the same thing with your clothes. Pick your favorite pieces that make you happy, comfortable, and confident.

Style Ideas | Preppy

Finding your style identity begins with self-exploration and understanding your preferences, lifestyle, and body shape. From there, you’ll learn how to curate a wardrobe with key pieces that reflect your personality and suit your needs.

I’ve always loved a preppy style because it highlights my personality and skin tone well. Below is a preppy mood board showing a handful of preppy items. Remember, these are here to inspire you and get those fashionista juices flowing!

The casual style is all about wearing comfortable clothing that looks put together effortlessly for a more laid-back attitude. It revolves around relaxed silhouettes, versatile basics, and a blend of trendy athletic and leisure wear.

Neutrals are very popular for a more understated and sophisticated look, but I love to add a little pop of color!

  1. I’m classic chic when I go out. At home I’m casual. Depending where I’m going I will dress more casual. Lately I’m thinking of dressing up more even to run errands. I saw a helpful YouTube video on how to incorporate casual and dressy together to get more usage of your clothes.

  2. I’m casual and classic chic! ! I work from home and workout at home! When I go out I love to look more put together and that’s where the classic chic comes in!. I’m learning to add a nice pop of color especially as we move into our dark drab winter months! I just bought a two toned pink sweater after Christmas and the colorful fair isles one from Avara! Other than that I stick mostly to neutrals!

  3. I had this done in the 80s by Beauti Control cosmetics and was a classic chic with strong romantic secondary. I have
Followed it alot but changed thru out the years . I like jackets better than sweaters now and trendy also. I still love ruffles that are not overwhelming since petite, thanks for the info. I will refer to it often!

  4. Great post! I have always leaned towards Classic/Chic and, lately, more towards casual. I’ve worked from home since 2015 so I no longer need to purchase business clothing. I love pieces that are casual but still look polished and intentional.
And I’ve been meaning to mention how much I enjoy the info-graphics on your email/newsletter where you put entire outfits together with accessories. That affords a great deal of inspiration for me. Thanks so much!

  5. I love the (neutral) plaid coat in the first picture but can’t seem to find a link anywhere.can you send me a link? Thank you!

    This was a great post!

  6. Great post, very helpful. I lean toward the classic and neutrals with some color and unexpected items thrown in.
The dark green sweater I bought it from Gap Factory just yesterday! I turned the cuff up to make it exactly half the cuff ribs showing. It makes it more me and flatters my body more.
Thanks for all you do for us!

  7. I love the long plaid coat and you didn’t say where you got that. Those are my colors and would like to purchase that coat. Thank you.
