With fall’s arrival comes some fresh new looks to try. If you’re wondering how to update your makeup for the season, I’ve got you covered. Here are some makeup trends for fall 2016.
Okay, there are a lot of makeup trends but few that I would actually wear. Some of the makeup trends include glittery eyeshadow, blue eyeshadow, oxblood lips and heavy eyeliner.
For women over 40 those trends are not the look most of us want. We want a more natural look. Glitter can accentuate fine lines and I don’t know about you but I would rather not accentuate them.
Here are the trends that I feel are wearable for women over 40:
- Copper Shadow
Rather than a traditional black smoky eye, the upgraded version features a touch of copper in the center — perfect for brown-eyed girls.
- Lip Gloss
Thankfully, this classic lip product is finally back in style. I love the look of a light gloss and Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie in Rebel is one of my favorites.
- Feathery Lashes
Full lashes on your top lash line invariably make your eyes look larger and more awake. Keep the rest of your makeup palette neutral for a look that’s modern, rather than overdone.
There are a lot of products today that help with longer lashes. Latisse is a prescription product that helps grow lashes. Other products that are over the counter are Rimmel Lash Accelerator, Peter Thomas Roth Lashes to Die For, Givenchy Mister Lash Booster, and Boots No 7 Fanomenal Lashes to name a few.
- Cold Weather Cheeks
Subtle blush is a year-round must. Add a touch of extra blush to your cheeks in the exact same color they turn when it’s chilly outside.
- Ultra Dewy Skin
Dewy skin with minimal makeup looks healthy and chic.
- Natural and Full Eyebrows
The last trend pertains to eyebrows. While big brows are still “in,” exaggerated arches are over. The message for fall is to simply embrace what you have naturally. For women over 40 we typically have to fill in some because our eyebrows thin with age. Keep your look soft by using eyeshadow or a sculpting pencil.
I have to admit that I don’t change my makeup routine very often because I know the colors I like and feel look best on me. I do like to make sure I’m staying current.
Do you change your makeup often?? What trend do you like the best?

Beauty For the Heart~~Several years ago I went through a season of fear. I don’t know why (although I think it had something to do with hormones).
There was a verse I memorized during that time. I wrote it out on note cards and put it in several different places in my home as a constant reminder.
2 Timothy 1:7, For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
Over time I realized God didn’t want me to live in fear. We need to live with the confidence that we are in the palm of His hands.
Have a blessed day!
