How To Style a Sleeveless Black Dress for Fall

I’m a huge fan of a fit and flare dress and this sleeveless black dress from LOFT is one of my new favorite dresses for fall. The dress has ruffle detail around the neckline and around the sleeves and ruffles are right on trend.

To style this sleeveless black dress for fall, I added a leopard print scarf and over the knee boots plus a denim jacket for the cool weather.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to stop by my blog. I’m on FacebookPinterest and my favorite one, Instagram.

Beauty For the Heart~~Shalom is the Hebrew word for peace and it’s used by the Jewish people to both greet and to bid farewell, and it means much more than “peace, hello or goodbye”….

Shalom is more then just simply peace; it is a complete peace. It is a feeling of contentment, completeness, wholeness, and well being.

It’s peace in your life whether you are in a season of blessing or a season of suffering. It’s the peace that passes all understanding (John 14:27) and it can only be found in Jesus Christ.

Have a blessed day!

  1. Hi Cindy-I Love you and your blog. What is your opinion of short girls (5-1″) wearing over the knee boots? I like them on you- don’t know if I can pull it off???
    Thanks:)

    1. Thank you Lisa! I think you can totally pull them off. I would suggest trying on several different styles to see which one works for you and your height.

  2. Love your blog Cyndi and really enjoyed your talk at the Catholic Women’s Retreat in Gilbertsville. Appreciated your take on all the rules we girls over 50 can break! I’m a newbie at not doing the matchy-matchy thing and you’ve inspired me to just give it a try. Telling all my friends about your blog! God bless you and your family

  3. Hey cyndi,
Have a question how can I style some of your outfits without skinny jeans my husband really don’t think I should be wearing them at 51 plus he has a problem with showing off Mt stuff to other men.
I want to look nice and stylish not frumpy can you help?

  4. You look super cute as usual, Cyndee! I love this outfit and can replicate it pretty easily. Thanks so much for all your consistent, hard work on the blog. Blessings to you and your family.

  5. I was just rummaging through my closet to get ready for a brunch this weekend. You have solved the problem with this gorgeous look that I will now duplicate! It was the scarf I hadn’t thought of–it really pops the lovely combo of tan and black. THANK YOU! Always appreciate your style and inspiration.

  6. I like the dresss, I like the scarf and maybe those boots…but not together. Just not sure the OTK boots are for us petite gals.

  7. You always look beautiful in everything, but I’m not a fan of this look. I think the boots are too over powering for the dress, swallows up your legs. I don’t really care for this style of boot anyway. Please don’t take it personally bc I think you are gorgeous. It’s just my (which means nothing) opinion.

  8. I wonder if I could do this with the ON sleeveless wing dress? I only have brown ankle booties so not sure how that would look in per portion… I have the jacket and scarf.

    Super cute!!!

  9. This dress would be a great piece to add to a year round closet. I love pieces that can be taken through all seasons. I really like your boots. If I were a few inches taller I’d try some. My legs are too short to accommodate OTK boots. I can barely wear regular riding boots.😜 You look beautiful as always, Cyndi!

  10. I love the entire look! I have never own an over the knee boots, but they look super cute! I also have a leopard scarf, I am a believer that leopard print is a neutral. You look astonishing, Cyndi!

  11. I would love to see the ruffle on neckline if I were wearing it. Although it looks fab on you . Being on edge of tiny petite the scarf would be too much but on you, works! I know it sounds boring but I would probably need to keep boots the same color. On you different story – I love the look on you! 😀Your hair color , scarf and boot color are perfection!

  12. Hi Cyndi! I love all of the pieces you styled today! While I love the scarf- especially with the jean jacket and boots and maybe skinny jeans and a white tee, I would really love to see you style the dress without it. That being said, anyway you style your fashion picks, you always look gorgeous!

  13. This I love! Perfect for us Florida girls itching to wear fall clothes. It’s so funny, as soon as temps dip below 70°, we all break out our boots, even if it’s going to be warmer later on! I have all the components to copy this except my boots are slightly different shades of brown. I’m going to pin the pic from your email where you show them side by side with and without the jacket. <3

  14. Such a cute dress and comfy fabric to boot…… Love the scarf and it does look nice although it may overtake the dress underneath a bit… Maybe a lovely statement neckless would be nice as well. I’m not tall enough for the boots but you wear them well.
Big fan of this combo… would be nice with your black handbag you’ve shown or without the scarf your leopard print clutch?? Have a wonderful day. Could you put a flat mule with this look?

  15. Haahaa! Yesterday Jo-Lynne styled a black dress and I thought “wouldn’t that look good with a leopard print scarf” – so there you go! 🙂
Love the OTK boots, but am not sure I could wear them.

  16. Oh, wow! How much do I love this outfit? This is exactly the reason that I love fall fashion so much more than summer…

  17. Sadly, I am not a fan of this look. Seems like to much is going on. The jacket looks a bit to bulky, and hides your figure. Also, the boots look like, they swallow up your bare legs. Perhaps, a more stream line boot would have worked. However, the dress is cute and has the perfect length.

  18. Just needing your help. I am going to a country concert for the first time in years! I recently turned 50 and I know the cutoffs are not trendy for me. Can you help me out by helping me style a pair of boot cut jeans and boots for this? I am at a loss.

You always look so put together- I struggle with this.

  19. I love to see that you are embracing the OTK boot trend too, Cyndi. In fact, I just got my mom (the 70+ model on the blog) a pair, and Nancy (the 60+ model) will be getting a pair soon too!!
I think the styles are perfect for any age, and they keep us warmer in the cold!!
    XOXO
