My Kitchen Remodel

Happy Monday, ladies! Well, as promised, I’m finally sharing my kitchen remodel with you. I am so pleased with how it all turned out!

We kept our cabinets and had them painted white (Benjamin Moore, White Herron). I kept my dark granite, but we changed our backsplash to white subway tile from Lowe’s.

I also changed my light fixture over my table and my island. We added new pulls to our cabinets from Wayfair, and that is pretty much it!

Here is a BEFORE picture of my kitchen.

Here is the AFTER picture of my kitchen.

I added some decor from Home Goods, but I purchased these lemons from Kirkland’s.

My island lights (heritage brass) are from Wayfair.

This was my light fixture before. I was not a fan.

This is my light fixture now (warm brass).

We had a tan tile backsplash.

We now have white subway tile. (Mine are the 4×12 inch subway tiles from Lowe’s)

I found these cute glass bunnies at Home Goods. The blue one is for Colt, and the pink one is for Claire.

I still have a few things to add to my kitchen, but I haven’t found what I’m looking for yet. We have friends coming over this Friday night for dinner, and they will be our first guests in our new kitchen!

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to stop by my blog. I’m also on FacebookPinterest, and Instagram.

Beauty For the Heart~~ This morning as I was driving to go work out at 5:30, I was listening to some praise music. The song, Scars, by I Am They came on. The lyrics say,

Waking up to a new sunrise
Looking back from the other side
I can see now with open eyes
Darkest water and deepest pain
I wouldn’t trade it for anything
‘Cause my brokenness brought me to You
And these wounds are a story You’ll use

So I’m thankful for the scars
‘Cause without them I wouldn’t know Your heart
And I know they’ll always tell of who You are
So forever I am thankful for the scars

I was reminded that my scars can be used for His glory. So I can say……I’m thankful for the scars. (It has taken me a while to be able to say that.)

Have a blessed day!

  1. Beautiful transformation Cyndi! We’re painting our cabinets as well and I was curious to know if you are happy with gold pulls with your stainless appliances?

  2. hey girl-Your kitchen is so pretty! And I would love to visit Kentucky someday-looks so beautiful. I live in Oklahoma- but I am from Arkansas- Go Hogs =)

    1. Hi Cindy,

Love your kitchen. So refreshing. What color is your center island painted ? Do you remember the name /color of your granite? Thanks.

  3. Love love your kitchen makeover! We’re doing something quite similar. Cabinets will be white and island will be espresso after we finish building it larger. I chose gold chanpaigne hardware and I’m still choosing counters, I know I like quartz. I did bronze for our light fixtures and we put in recessed lights. Floors will be last throughout the house. I’m going for transitional look. 🙂 I think that’s what yours is, but your home is much newer. OUr home was built in 1984, lots of work. Enjoy your blog so much!

  4. you’re not going to believe it . . but as I’m reading your post THANKFUL FOR THE SCARS is playing on my speakers!!! Thankful for my scars, as they show the power of my Savior!!! I love your kitchen. Looks so much brighter!! No rush on the granite. It looks GREAT with the white countertops!!! Bless you dear lady!

  5. Cyndi,

Can you please comment on or provide a link to your charger plates shown in your table setting? Your kitchen turned out beautiful.
    Thank you.

    1. You did a great job! Its like fresh air! Love that you kept your cabinets and countertops the same! Subway tile is classic!

  6. Your remodel turned out just beautiful! You have great vision! Looks like it was well Worth all the inconvenience and mess that remodeling can bring.
    So pretty! Enjoy ❤️

  7. PS Could you please tell us what colors are in your blouse? Is it black or navy and the review said they are blue flowers not white. Also, is it a true read or orange red. The website shouldn’t be so off on the colors.

  8. Love what you did. Looks so bright and cheery and updated. Have fun entertaining Friday in your new look. Thanks for sharing with us all. Funny how you and Jo-Lynne are doing the same thing.

  9. Gorgeous kitchen! I see you painted the cabinets white, but what color paint did you use for the island cabinets? (Maybe I missed this.) Thanks.

  10. Love. Love. Your new kitchen, it’s beautiful. 😍
It’s fun to rejoice with you – thank you for sharing!
P.S. the words to the song are such a sweet aroma to my heart. ❤️

  11. Hi Cyndi,

Your kitchen is gorgeous! I know you are really proud of it. I love the song “Scars.” It has a beautiful message. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

  12. I love, love your kitchen remodel! Beautiful shade of white for your cabinets. Super cute decor to. Those are beautiful lyrics to the song . Have a wonderful week!

  13. great kitchen. for my 2 cnts, the darker countertop makes a nice contrasting accent. Maybe look at your photos and decide you like them. ha
i am nosey enough to wonder how you have been handling the Sunday after church diers with n under construction kitchen.

also, did Wayne have any challenges with not getting into the construction ???

  14. Gorgeous kitchen! Also really love that dining room table!

I love the song scars. You are very right that it takes us a long time to get to the point of being able to say we are thankful for the struggles God lets us go through. But in time we see that if He allows it, there is a reason. And that reason will always be for our good! Thanks for the reminder!

  15. Fabulous!!! Such a difference! I think the dark countertops look great with the white cabinets and tile. I know how excited you are to have it finished.

  16. Love what you have done with the kitchen! I like the current counters with the white kitchen … presents a nice contrast and compliments the floors adding a warmth to the space.

  17. Your kitchen looks fabulous! I personally think the granite gives a warmth to the space. I also like that you’ve repurposed items in your home that are still in great shape. Love it

  18. Awesome! I did a similar thing when I moved a year ago. We painted the cabinets white from a VERY dark oak. I LOVE it!
Anyway, where did you get the light colored straw placemats under the treal plates on the table?

  19. So bright and cheerful! I bet you are inspired to cook up a storm! It’s funny that you and Jo-Lynne are both remodeling your kitchens at the same time. Did you plan that :)?

  20. Love it! Would like to change out my pulls but my question, did you use cup pulls on the drawers because of the location of the existing hole? I have single pulls and guess there is no way to use the bars unless the existing holes were filled which sounds difficult to me.

  21. So pretty!! We are about to move and are planning to do a lot of white as we remodel so this was super timely and inspiring.

  22. How lovely!!!! I love the white!!!! I do like the dark granet tho. I think it pulls in the white cabinets with the black island and the wood floors!!! Really pretty!!!

  23. Love your new kitchen and the contrast of the darker granite and white cabinets! (could be because that is what I have!:-) Also gold the gold fixtures with it!! So updated!! Have a great evening with friends! <3

  24. Looks great!! Before the cabinets & flooring seemed to all blend together. I have a very similar light fixture over my kitchen table. My cabinets are white & my island is gray. Again, everything looks nice!!

  25. Cyndi your kitchen is gorgeous. I love the white with the dark island. We just redid our kitchen in white. We love it! Enjoy your new kitchen! You deserve it. I am also thankful for my scars. It took me a while too. Have a Great Day!!
    ……Linda W.

  26. Beautiful! Love white cabinets.❤ I have them and also a black island. I too need to update my counter tops. It’s had to live through remodeling, but the results are so worth it.😊

  27. Gorgeous! Thank you for sharing. I’m a visual learner and it helps me so much to see before and after photos. Love the hardware and fixtures. Classic white is fresh, cheery and timeless….much like you!

  28. Great looking kitchen redo! Everything looks fantastic. We have lighter granite and kitchen was updated before we moved in and after they moved out so we were the first ones to use it. Our lighter Bengal White granite stained alittle and had a year guarantee so the manufacturer came out & got the stains out & resealed it with a professional sealer. Be sure to get it sealed good. We had darker before and never a problem. The light background of this one isn’t staining anymore but I am cleaning wizard with my granite spray everytime we finish what we are doing in the kitchen. That really scared me. We have a big kitchen like you and lots of granite countertops. Just a heads up for the future. Love your white cabinets!!!

  29. Your kitchen is lovely. My comment is regarding home security. Perhaps you have already addressed this issue, but you tell the public your travel plans in your posts. You may have someone house-sitting.

Anyway, your kitchen is great. I enjoy your posts very much. Thank you.

  30. WOW! Your kitchen looks fabulous! What a difference the white cabinets make. Love everything!

Thank you for sharing the lyrics to this song. This song really hits home for me.

    Have a wonderful week.

  31. Absolutely love your new kitchen! Smart to wait on the countertops, you may end up liking them with the new kitchen. I have to disagree with a prior comment, never skip vacation over material items.

  32. Love the new kitchen. The white with the black island really stands out.. it’s all just beautiful. Love your finishing touches:)

  33. The change to white cabinets really brightened up your kitchen. Love the aqua accents in the decorations you added, and the golden fixtures and handles. Nice job!!

    Love BFTH today.

  34. Cyndi, Beautiful remodel. Love the cute bunnies for a fun seasonal touch.
The season of Lent will start Wednesday and the lyrics of the song are truly on point.
Thank you for sharing your home and heart with us! 🐇

  35. Looks beautiful!! I live in Lexington as well, can I ask who painted your cabinets? Mine are dark like yours were and would like to have them painted.

    Thank you!

  36. We had our cabinets painted and they are not holding up. What type of paint was used on your cabinets? Everything so beautiful and bright!

  37. Beautiful Job Cyndi. I hear what you are saying about the countertop but really that one ties into the rustic wood colour of your stools and dining chairs so it looks great. Love the simplicity and clean lines and look of the backsplash and the light fixtures are spot on.
    Enjoy your new space!!!

  38. Cyndi, I love the updates you made! This post is so timely for me as I’m in the process of painting my cabinets, changing hardware, wall color, etc. I too have dark countertops and would LOVE to change them. I see your kitchen is like mine – no windows, which makes it darker, hence why I’m trying to lighten things up! You’ve inspired me to keep going, it’ll be worth it in the end.

  39. Your kitchen is beautiful! If you ever get bored with fashion, you could become an interior designer❤️

  40. WOw! Love the white! The kitchen was beautiful before but I love the freshness of the white! Beautiful job and thanks for sharing!1
