Can You Mix Fashion and Jesus?

Well, The Relevant weekend had some of this…………...

snow in October. Uggh! Thankfully we were nice and toasty inside and I don’t think we missed a beat!

In case you don’t know, The Relevant Conference, is a women’s conference for bloggers who have a heart for Jesus. Not all of them blog about Him specifically but we all have Him as our common thread.

We eat lots of chocolate and drink lots of coffee…...heaven! All of the speakers were amazing but Tish from Simple Mom said some things that probably spoke to my heart the most. Tish shared about being in your element that place where your passions and gifts meet on your blog. It doesn’t always mean that we shout Jesus but as christian bloggers his light will shine.

Most of you know, who read my blog regularly, that I’m a pastor’s wife. I love ministry and I love sharing what God is doing in my life. I will always share about Jesus on my blog and encourage women to grow closer to Him.

But something you may not know is I love talking about make up and fashion, great hair products, moisturizers etc. I shop bargains and of course I shop for things that Moms can wear and use in everyday life.

I have always dreamed of doing make-up on women and then sharing with them the most important beauty is on the inside and it begins with Jesus. How cool would that be??

I can’t tell you how many times my Mom let me do her hair and make-up over the years. While she was sick and dying with cancer I would do her make-up and hair for her on the days she felt like it. Such sweet memories!

Truthfully, I kind of feel like an oxymoron…….Pastor’s wife who loves fashion. But Tish reminded us this weekend that God made us and he love us! We all have different passions and hobbies. My sister, Traci loves DIY and she is in the process of adding on to her house, and she just tore her kitchen cabinets down…..she’s in a mess but she loves it! It’s her passion but so is Jesus.

I definitely want to share about Jesus but some people may not come to my blog if they think I only talk about Jesus. But they might come if I share about my favorite moisturizer and then find Jesus on my blog. Does that make sense to anyone?

I’m still doing some soul searching and praying but you might see some changes in the next few months. We’ll see!

I would love to hear from you! What do you think? (I have to admit, I’m a little scared of this question) 🙂

Have a great day!!

  1. I found your blog a couple months ago but just read this post. My husband & I married & started our family very young. I’m 43 & have 25, 22, & 17 yr old children. (And we are still married!) I was the frumpy stay at home mom those early years but as my children got a little older & I was near 30, I wanted to look & feel young for my husband & myself. I LOVE fashion & makeup. I love being trendy & not like a “mom”. But I’ve struggled with the vanity side of it. I LOVE Jesus & strive for humility. Your blog has been a joy as it has helped me to feel more comfortable in my own skin….just as God created me. I love to dress up & that’s just who I am

  2. Hi Cyndi,

but other than that, this is excellent blog. A fantastic read.
    I’ll definitely be back.

  5. Love this post and you…and Jesus. I blog about Jesus but this I know: whenever I’m getting ready to go out, He chooses the outfit I get to wear. And boy, do I look great? You bet! Just let Him be Lord all over and you could never go wrong trusting Him.

  6. I LOVE IT!!!! THIS IS JUST WHAT I’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR!!! I, TOO, LOVE JESUS AND FASHION!!! I am 53 but LOVE to dress trendy and be cute!! I also love sharing my Jesus with women. I am over a community wide women’s ministry “Spoken For” ….and outreach for hurting women.

I personally feel that we should represent Him well….and being cute in His sight is a GOOD THING!!!

Looking forward to listening and sharing this journey with you!!
    Hugs,

  7. Hi Karen!
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! I’m so glad you like it. You won’t find me wearing 5 inch heels to the grocery but I will hopefully be wearing something stylish that is “mommy” appropriate.
    Thanks again for stopping by!
    Blessings,
    Cyndi

  8. Hi Cindy,

I am a 51 year old mother of 3 (ages 14, 12, and 9). Yes that is correct, I have a 9 year old!! I found your website this weekend and I spent hours looking at everything on it. What an inspiration you are. I love your fashion sense!! You look awesome without wearing 5″ heels!! Your outfits are adorable, fashionable, age appropriate, and practical. I crack up when I see fashion magazines with Moms grocery shopping in huge high heels. Your website has given me so many tips and you have given me a boost when I was beginning to feel like an “old” woman. At least that is what the world tells us….but I don’t live in the world I live for Jesus and you do too. Keep your light shinning….it helps people like me!

  9. Simply wish to say your article is as astounding.
The clearness in your publish is just great and i could suppose you’re knowledgeable in this subject. Fine together with your permission let me to take hold of your feed to stay updated with approaching post. Thanks one million and please keep up the gratifying work.

  11. Greetings! I know this is kinda off topic nevertheless

My blog discusses a lot of the same subjects as yours and I believe we could greatly benefit from each other.
If you might be interested feel free to shoot me an e-mail.
I look forward to hearing from you! Wonderful blog by
    the way!

  12. Cyndi!
    I just stumbled across your blog and I must tell you that you SO speak to my heart! I have always said to my husband “WHY CAN’T A WOMAN BE BEAUTIFUL, INSIDE AND OUT???!!” However, the world’s definition of beauty for women has gone so far off the rails. I love your modest, yet not matronly look! I also LOVE how you look for bargains! Best of all, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how you weave the most important part of beauty into your blogs, a HEART filled with beauty! Below is one of my favorite quotes ( I keep taped on my mirror);

On How To Be Rich And Beautiful:
“If any of you are dissatisfied
because you are poor and plain looking,
let me tell you how to be rich and beautiful.
Have a heart full of love and goodness
and a soul beautiful with the beauty
    of holiness and you will be rich.”{(MR}

Thank you for all your tips and wisdom! God Bless…and (((Hugs))… 🙂

  14. Wow love it !!
And we are so alike, i love fashion and make-up and the Lord Almighty !
Also i did the same for my mum when she was dying with cancer, i would pamper her and prepare her for meeting her maker…Two days before she died, she was slipping in and out of consciousness and one time she awoke, and was in amazement, she told us, ‘He is gorgeous, he is beautiful like no one can imagine, he is out of this world ‘..Maybe she was dreaming but she was convinced she saw ‘him’…And that gave her and I so much Peace..
Last year i was in a messy place in my life, wrong partner, wrong friends, life was just all wrong..
Then, I was diagnosed with a rare cancer myself, thankfully now I got my all clear at my 6mthly visit…I totally baffled , pathologists, consultants and oncologists..
They cant figure where it came from…I said , ‘i think it came from, above’ !! I got strange looks, but I know in my heart God touched my life with it , so i could waken up and sort my life out..
I had two Operations, after the 1st one, my partner of 9 yrs, just let me down , i got no support and i left him 5 days after my Op..I had just recently gave up my home and we moved into his 3months previous ..So i walked out with Nothing, and £14 to my name..
I went to stay with a friend who i had known 16yrs, we have been through everything together, i helped her so much as she was an alcoholic, (so was my X)..She then told me to leave, days after my 2nd op..
I found another friend a true angel, she was sent to me, and i recovered on her sofa, for 3 months..It just went from bad to worse..Cancer, heartbroken and homeless, all at once, i was 44, how could my life have ended up in such a mess ?????
My son was living with his father during all this, so i didn’t have him either..I was devastated…
But every day and night i knew God was working with me, i spoke to him constantly…
One day , it was rainy and blustery and i’d had enough, i got into my car and drove up to a park, broke down and screamed,’ God please help me out of this mess, please give me a house and get my son back home living with me, i am begging you’… 2 or 3 days later, i got the phone call, they had a home for me 🙂
Well 6 months on , I have the most wonderful house i could ever imagine , friends and family rallied around and helped me out..I shopped for all the bargains and I am in Heaven now :)..
My son is so happy and matured into a wonderful young man..
One you thing you find in your hour of need is,’ who is who’, who your true friends are..
My 16yr friends, daughter ,sent me an email and said,’ i was playing the victim and an attention seeker and drama queen’ WOW that hurt !!
Sorry i have just let it all out, thanks for letting me get this out, God obviously directed me here..
I also have some new wonderful friends, that are God sent ..God is good, actually he is wonderful… Keep the faith ladies ….
Also i have a sister called Tracy lol.,.
    xx

  15. Thanks for your encouragement, I have a blog about Jesus and Fashion! The idea came to me in prayer, I agree that God gives us passions to connect with others, otherwise women are getting there view on fashion and beauty from the world, if the Christian world is scared to offer anything!

  16. Don’t be afraid cyndi because you know what bloggers who arent for god do not hesitate to start their blog
To influence people so why not
    You?
Psalms 47: read this. If anything god is for us not
Against us and we need to
Influence people who are lost even through blogging yes blogging and be the light! I know
    I am
Late with a reply but I am glad I found this!

  17. I am glad I stumbled apon this blog. I have been struggling for some time now with how to dress being a Christian. A Mom and a Wife. I do not want to put focus on me in either a bad way or a good way. It is so hard to know what is right and what is wrong with so many openions. I also love makeup and shoes and colorful cloths and jewelry.
Any good tips on moisturizer for oily skin? LOL!
    Thank you Cyndi!

  18. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this blog and so glad I found it through Pinterest.

I have two blogs: one is life in general (unsivilized.blogspot.com) and one is for my dogs (www.theloveshackpack.com)! Dogs are my passion and the tool God has given me to most effectively reach others for Him. While the idea is a bit “out of the box” for most people, the ministry my family has been able to work through over the past several years because of dogs has been amazing and life changing. Like you.. there are many who will visit my dogs blog who would never visit mine (- actually they have over 150 fans and I only have 20)! And in the real world, we can approach people with golden retrievers who’d be offended if we approached with a Bible instead. Our goal is to shine Jesus, as you said.

My daughter has also recently started blogging a site for Christian pre-teens about beauty, Christianity, fashion, and modesty and how those things work together. I can’t wait for her to visit your site.. I know she will be blessed and inspired!

  19. If you can mix coupons and Jesus…you can mix Fashion and Jesus:)) I know for me…the things that I am most fearful about writing about are the EXACT things that He wants me to share and the enemy doesn’t. Share it.

  20. Hi again, ( Ijust commented on your most recent post. Then I started browsing around and found this post) Anyway, I, too, am a pastor’s wife, and I know what it’s like to feel like you don’t fit the “mold” of that role. I have passions, ambitions, and goals that have nothing to do with my husband’s job. You will be better able to serve alongside your husband as you pursue your own passions because you will be taking care of yourself in these pursuits. I think it’s great! There is NOTHING wrong with taking care of yourself. In fact, I’m in the very beginning stages of developing a ministry that addresses this very issue in women’s lives. My blog is a part of that. Just this week I wrote a post that I think might encourage you. If you decide to take a look, the post is under the “beginner homemaking” menu tab.
I’m excited to be a follower of your blog and watch your ministry unfold.
    Blessings!

  21. As a married christian woman I still want to look good but with respect to myself and my husband. Being over 40 I’m at that place where I’m starting to feel so old and ugly. I really don’t have time to keep up with fashion. If you do and want to blog about it, I’m willing to read/listen. Makeup and fashion talk from a Christian prospective and not worldly would be fabulous.

  22. Hi there,
I am so excited I saw your blog. I love what you are doing. God has been working on me in a similar way. From a very young age it was my dream to design clothes and be a part of the fashion world. But when I turned 18 I landed a great government job that I enjoyed and brought much finanical security (something that I lacked growing up). I have had a great career at the agency I worked for, but now at age 28, ten years later God is calling me to move on and follow my dreams. I have to admit it is a bit scary to walk away from a great job, especially in this economy. But I know God has a great plan for me and for the first time in my life I am stepping out of the boat and taking a risk. It would be so easy to stay were I am at, but I would rather be in God’s will and take a risk on him. So anyways, this morning God put it on my heart to google “fashion and Jesus” and I found your blog. I was sad to see so many negative things about fashion and faith on the web, so I was thrilled to find your blog. God given each one of us different talents and abilities and strongly believe He has called us to use them for his glory! Amen:) so you go girl, God is going to use you in a way you could have never imagined. I am excited for you and excited to see what God has in store for me. Glory be to God!
Take care and remember to the the authentic person God called you to be.

  23. You know how I feel about this!!

    I remembered something: when I first believed in Christ, the first words out of my mouth to the friend who prayed with me were: “Oh, no! Now I can’t be an opera singer any more!” {I was in school training to be an opera singer 🙂 did you know that??}
My fear was that I had to wear sack cloth and go to a foreign country, and that Christ did not want me to be me.
Fortunately, she was wise for her 20 years, and she told me that everywhere is the mission field. THat God would USE my passions to put me in places where I can speak truth to this fallen world. I have never forgotten her words and encouragement.

I pass on her wisdom to you today.

GOD gave you your passions. What matters is HOW you use them. To Him be the glory!

    LOVE YOU BUNCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. Oh how I wish I could have been there and seen you again! I am so glad you were blessed there. As for fashion and Jesus…He wants to be a part of our whole lives, not just church and prayer at meals. You talk about anything you want here and He will shine through. You are doing great! Lisa~

  25. Oh, Cyndi!
I absolutely adore what you are doing now and the balance seems entirely appropriate (heavy on Jesus, seasoned with fashion) as is! I hope you won’t overhaul too dramatically, but certainly will stick around to see what’s up as you follow your sweet heart!
I understand the idea of widening your audience and I think it’s certainly something we all need to consider in the ways we reach out to those who have not yet responded to God’s call, sadly I think (and I’m thinking of the current trends in worship—contemporary worship in “non church” venues, preaching from the “pulpit” that is light on scripture so as to appeal to the lukewarm more) the result is a watering down of ministry. Please be prayerful about that! 🙂

  26. God is going to use your passion, Sis!
You just be the YOU He has created you to be and He will do the rest. His light will shine brightly through you. Praying for you as you seek His will and wisdom.
    xoxo

  27. I trust that whatever you share about will ultimately come back to your for love for your Savior. Go for it, Girl. Love you bunches.

  28. A big YYYYEEESSS!!
    Fashion and Jesus for sure.

    Food and Jesus.
    Furniture and Jesus.
    Perfume and Jesus.
    Anything with Home and Jesus.

    God bless,
    d from homehaven

  29. Love Jesus and loved your post on hair too! Had to come out of lurking to tell you so. Looking forward to whatever you do. (ps – Beth Moore definitely loves Jesus and is girly girl as well, and I adore her for it.)

  30. Cyndi,

I am a Grandma too, a little older than you, but I would LOVE to hear someone that is not 21 talking about makeup and hair ideas. I love the Lord too and just want to be my best for Him in every area of my life. Go for it!!!!

  31. Oh that’s some great revelation right there. I’ve been thinking that I would love to talk more about my struggle with weight loss, and maybe start a recipe page. I’m not sure how to do that, but am trusting the Lord will show me! I pray I get to attend the Relevant conference next year.

  32. What a wonderful way to show the love of Christ!!!! Having your make-up and hair done make you feel good and have the confidence in who you are! Thank you for your encouragement and Keep Shining for Jesus!!!

  33. Cyndi, God gives us all different passions. As you said, our love for Jesus is the bond that holds us all together. We are to shine for Jesus – it’s what on the inside that makes us truly beautiful. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t care about the outside. I think the fact that the words Tish shared spoke to your heart is important. Follow where God is leading you. 🙂 Many blessings!

  34. I can’t think of a combination I would love to hear about more…Jesus & make-up! I am blessed to be a child of God and gladly proclaim Jesus as my Savior. I feel better and am more confident when I look my best which includes make-up and hair products. I look forward to more of this in your blog, Cyndi!
