Fall Fashion-How To Style a Fur Vest

Fall fashion over 40Welcome ladies! Today I’m collaborating with two of my favorite over 40 fashion bloggers on how to style a fur vest. Jo-Lynne and Alison, both have fabulous blogs and I love working with them.

Last fall, I shared this faux fur vest from Target. I love this vest and I still have it (well sort of, my daughter and I share it, she loves it too!).

Target doesn’t have this same vest but they do have one similar here. I like wearing it with an off white top and ankle boots.

What To Wear For Thanksgiving Day!
This year I really wanted to style a white fur vest. I have seen them popping up all over Pinterest and I wanted to add one to my wardrobe.

I found this vest at JC Penney. I styled it with a plaid shirt and brown boots.

Faux Fur Vest (I’m wearing a medium)//Plaid shirt (I’m wearing a small, it’s 100 cotton so it does have to be ironed)//Brown boots//Necklace (only silver left)//Necklace//Watch

These brown boots are a synthetic suede with lace up detailing on the back. Such a cute boot! (Discount code for $10 off at Glamour Farms is spivey725)

brown boots with lace up backWhen it comes to the fur vest trend, I want to add it to my wardrobe but I knew I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a vest.

We talk a lot about basic wardrobe pieces that are timeless. Those are the pieces I’m willing to spend more money on, but trendy pieces I try to spend less.

I love the vest on the left but I’m not willing to spend $298. I saved by purchasing the vest on the right for $49.99 (it’s regularly $89 but it’s on sale).

Splurge vs. Save

Beauty for The Heart~~I don’t know about you, but I like when life is going good. I don’t care for the difficult days.

I often think I can control the things around me but God quickly shows me that I am not in control.

When I can’t wrap everything in my life in a pretty box with a big red bow, I get antsy. And let’s be honest life is not always a pretty box with a big red bow.

I was reading in the Psalms and this verse popped out at me. Psalm 65:5b says, You are the hope of everyone on earth.

Jesus is our hope! I needed to hear that today.

Have a blessed day!

  1. I love your pins! Love the way you style your clothes and I can usually come close with mine. Thank you so much for showing how it will look.
    God Bless you!

  2. I love
The white fur vest look. It’s gorgeous on you. The trick is to find one that does not overwhelm me with my petite frame. Thanks for the encouraging verses. They encourage my heart.

  3. I just received a faux leather/fur white vest in my Fix this week! I am so excited to see how you style yours! I love it with the tall boots! Have you ever worn yours with a dress or skirt? Great looks today! As always! Susan

      1. It is the brand BlankNYC. I have never heard of it before, but the vest is so cute! I am thinking of styling it with a simple dress and tights and boots. Then for a casual look, I plan to pair it with denim and a plaid button down. Do you have any suggestions? I would love to see how you wear yours! Susan

      2. That is the exact same one I recieved! I bought a flannel shirt that is pink and turquoise and cream , then dark denim jeans and brown tall boots! It’s a little bulky in the front but I do love it! I found it on the Nordstrom website also and they just put it with a black top. Fun peice to figure out!

  4. The brown vest looks very nice on you. The white one looks a bit on the large on you but that could just be how it comes across in the photo. Show us photos of your closets sometime. I bet they are full! Do you donate your clothes when you are finished with them?

    1. How about I show you my guest bed?? #clothesalwaysendupthere
Yes I do donate my clothes. I also have a daughter that loves getting some of my leftovers.

  5. Love the fur vest! I just bought one and I love your styling ideas. I tend to buy trendy pieces on sale and spend more on classics.
    Thanks for sharing! xo

  6. Did you get your haircut??! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!!!!!! It looks just great on you!!! (In fact, I ‘pinned’ it to show my hairstylist). Also love your vest – cute outfit.

  7. I tried a fur vest on the other day but left it behind. I guess it was too trendy for me. I do love it on you though. Such fun!
I usually go the economical route when it’s something trendy. I’ll invest in key pieces that I know I’ll wear for years. I do buy more expensive footwear, as I have foot problems. I know Jo-Lynne can commiserate with me on that one.

    1. I don’t have foot problems but I have bought a few more expensive pair of shoes lately and it’s amazing how much better they feel!
      Thanks for stopping by!

  8. I like the vests…on you. I don’t feel like they compliment me well OR I haven’t found one yet that does :). I have a smaller frame and while most people can’t tell, I’m “chesty” which tends to make the vests fit weird – maybe it’s just me. BTW – I’m liking the length of your hair now!

  9. At 53, I’ve learned that I’m surprised when I look back and see how long an item has been in my closet and on frequent rotation. What I thought was a trend, ended up staying around for several years. Having said that, I try to be mindful of how much I’ll wear an item and marry that with how long I expect to wear the item. A vest is equivalent to a coat in my mind so I may spend more to get exactly what I want (but still get it on sale). Costume jewelry on the other hand, I’ll look for bargains because I tend to get tired of it faster. Bauble Bar sales are great me for – cute, no shipping, no tax, and a good price point.

  10. Hi Cindi,

I just ordered the faux fur vest from JC Penny, it doesn’t specify in the description to have pockets. I understand the one you are wearing is the same one from Penny’s. Does it in fact have pockets?

  11. You’re right, the perfect fall outfit! I love how you made it more casual with the plaid and boots, adorable on you! I’m like you, I just can’t invest much on trends. I’d love to have one of these, but I’m just not sure how much I’d get to wear it. Thank you for showing us a casual and more budget-friendly option!

  12. Love your white faux fur vest. I bought the one from Target last Fall, but have yet to wear as I think I look like a big bear in it. LOL! You, Jo-Lynne and Allison have given me some good inspiration today as to how to style it. I think I will wear it on Friday for date night.

  13. As usual, you look great Cyndi! I normally don’t buy trendy pieces because the trends don’t always last. But when I do buy them, I take the economical route. I can’t wait to see Jo-Lynn’s post today.

    God bless!

  14. Thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into your posts. I watch my email daily for your posts and am so inspired by your grace and your beauty! 🙂 I love that you emphasize beauty from the inside out and share thoughts for the day. Keep up the awesome work…God is using you.
This outfit is adorable! Love the combo!

  15. Love the faux fur vest with plaid and boots! The trees in the background are beautiful!! I bought a faux fur vest at our church garage sale last year ($1.00) and cannot wait to wear it! What a bargain!! Many blessings!!

    1. I noticed your hair, too, in the first picture. It’s shorter, and I really like it that length. It shows off your pretty (small) face.
