Chicago, Style Bloggers, & A New Camera

**Disclosure: I am participating in the Verizon Style Voices program and have been provided with a wireless device and six months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product.

I’m finally sharing my trip to Chicago with you today! A few months ago I was contacted by Verizon wireless to participate in the Verizon Style Blogger Voices program. I’ve never been to Chicago so I was so excited to have this opportunity.

The best part is Verizon paid for the whole trip! They treated us to two nights at the Hard Rock Hotel, and even better, Wayne was able to come with me! Of course he couldn’t attend the blogger program but I loved having him there. We spent Thursday touring the city and of course we had to eat some Chicago pizza.

Chicago, Style Bloggers, & A Camera! On Friday, I met with Verizon and the other style bloggers. I had so much fun meeting these ladies. We were told we would receive a wireless device, but had no idea what it would be. I was thrilled to find out it was a Samsung Galaxy Camera!

This is not just any camera, it’s a “smart” camera. Not only does it take incredible photos (16MP) but you can upload them right to Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. It’s like a “smart” phone except you can’t make calls and the picture quality is much better! It’s compact and fits easily in my purse.

Verizon also treated us to the SAIC (School of Art Institute Chicago) Fashion Show, and an amazing dinner at Mercat a la Planxa. It was such a great day!

Here’s a few more photos of my trip. I have to say I love Chicago but I was glad I brought my spring coat, it was cold! Also, the fashion was definitely different at the fashion show. I guess beauty really is in the eye of the beholder!

  1. I’m visiting Chicago right now over mothers day weekend!!!! My daughter and her husband are attending a wedding and they brought me to watch my 9 week old grand daughter while they’re at the wedding!!!! I’m so impressed how clean the city is and I love all the beautiful buildings!!! But best of all is being with this sweet baby girl!!!! I want to come back here and do more sight seeing and…..eat some more yummy food!!!

  2. Chicago is my hometown and I am so glad you enjoyed yourself! You have to come back in the summer and go to the lake front and Navy Pier and our awesome museums. Every weekend there is a festival somewhere. Great choice eating at Lou’s, it is the best! Come back soon!

  3. You look darling in your glasses! Very chic! I HAVE to wear glasses, contacts are NOT an option for me, so I know from glasses and yours are classy. Love your coat with the black skinnies and gold shoes…very urban. I loved those shoes last week and thought they looked great with the skirt, but now that I see them will the pants, I love’em even more. Be blessed!

  4. OK, did you have Giordano’s? We always go to the one in Greek town and it’s so unbelievable. Anything that’s called Chicago-style pizza, usually is NOT! Not unless it’s actually from Chi-town.

We haven ‘t been there in years, but my darling hubby had facial reconstructive surgery there 10 years ago, and we made a day trip from here in Michigan to Chicago, for 40 weeks. So we know our way around and we LOVE it there. Christmas is my favorite, but fall is good too!

Glad that you had tun. It looks awesome!

  5. My husband and I were born and raised in South Dakota. We’ve lived in California for 20 years now. However, I never had the opportunity to visit Chicago until January 2012 when our son graduated from Navy bootcamp. We also had some of the most amazing pizza. Hope you are enjoying your time!!

  6. Hi Cyndi,
As a native Illinoisan, I grew up in a small town an hour northwest of Chicago, and have lived 2 1/2 hours south ever since college. Chicago is an amazing city to visit, but I’m always happy to leave. You sampled one of chicago’s best pizzas, Gino’s being the other one. Glad you had a fun time. Sorry for the cool, rainy weather. This has been the spring that refused to come!

  7. Hi Cyndi, I am from western Kentucky, but manage to visit family in Chicago for the past four summers. The shopping is fabulous as well as the pizza. There is so much to see and do there, but never enough time.

  8. Hello Cyndi- I live in one of the most northwest suburbs of Chicago…. but I was born and raised in Wisconsin with a detour in Tennessee (5 years)…. although I am primarily a mid west gal and lived here in Illinois for 7 years… I guess I have not acclimated to this area. We had the opportunity to go to New York City 2 years ago and I loved it!!!! I don’t love so much going to Chicago…. maybe because it’s so close! You can never be prepared for the weather….. it’s part of the Lake effect…. Lake Michigan is quite powerful. I am always fascinated by those who love to go (downtown) Chicago… however, not my first vacation choice.

  9. How fun Cyndi! I’ve never been to Chicago but love to travel! To me the fun things about traveling are, deciding what to wear before I leave, and eating fun food and people watching while I’m there! Looks like you did all of those things:) I am still in love with your coat! I didn’t get out to get one myself. I’m sure they are gone by now. I also love your little cross body bag! Is it Michael Kors? Thanks so much for your thoughtful quotes and verses they add important reminders to my day!! Krista

  10. Hey Lisa,
I purchased my coat at Macy’s. The brand is INC International Concepts. By far, I got the most compliments on that coat. I love it!
    Thanks for stopping by!
    Cyndi

  11. Oh Wow Sandy you would be a great tour guide! 🙂 We’re going back to go to church at Moody Church. My husband is a huge Erwin Lutzer fan. 🙂
    Thanks for stopping by!

  12. I’m not a big city girl either but it was so fun to visit. It’s a great city with lots of shopping. Of course most of it was too expensive for me!
    Thanks for stopping by!
    Cyndi

  13. Never been to Chicago but would love to visit someday . I also love your coat!! Where did you get that? Glad you had fun 🙂

  14. Also excited about your new camera!!! I have an older style of the compact Samsung. Pink in color!! LOL Gave it to my daughter when I purchased my Nikon CoolPix L120…I do a lot of photography and love it.

  15. How funny to read this while I’m riding in the car on the way to Chicago! Hubby has a work meeting so I’m going sight seeing. Love your coat! The conference sounded awesome.

  16. Glad you had a fantastic time and posted some pix for us all to see! My hubby and I go to Chicago once a year. Usually in Oct. We have our trip planned for this Oct. already booked. We love the trip through Indianapolis and through all those amazing wind turbines! I drove the 8 hours drive last Oct. and probably will again this Fall. Glad you had some Chicago pizza!!! 🙂

  17. Our son and daughter-in-law live in the Chicago area. We love to visit. I see you tasted one of the best pizzas in Chicago.

  18. So glad you got to go and be with other bloggers! I was born in Chicago and went to college in that area….there’s so MUCH to see and do there. I highly recommend going back as soon as you can. And….Sept. is a much better time to be there 🙂

  19. Looks like a fun time, Cyndi… I’ve never visitied Chicago. I am sooo not a city person…. I do enjoy going to a big city once in a while but then that’s enough for a verrrrry long time. hahha You look great in the pics! Thx expecially for the quote… I needed that reminder! Blessings!
