Guard Your Heart

A few weeks ago, my granddaughter gave me this picture she had made for me for Grandparents Day at school. I have the picture in my kitchen beside my coffee pot. Every morning when I make my coffee, I think about my sweet Claire. I’ve also been thinking about Proverbs 4:23.

Proverbs 4:23 says: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

The Hebrew word for heart is ‘leb,’ which means’ inner man, mind, or will. ‘ The heart here means more than emotions; it means your thoughts and character.

God wants us to guard our heart because He knows the more guarded we are, the more we will focus on the right path.

It’s so hard to guard our heart. We’re inundated with news that often prioritizes sensational stories. Social media can be a breeding ground for negativity, and while entertainment can be a great escape, so many movies revel in violence, conflict, and sexually explicit content.

Guarding our heart is difficult in today’s world, but it is as crucial today as it was when the Bible was written.

So, how do we guard our heart?

  • Be mindful of your influences: What media are you consuming? Who are you spending time with? Are they positive or negative influences? It’s important to have people around you who encourage you as a believer. We all need encouragement!
  • Focus on gratitude: A heart filled with thankfulness leaves less room for negativity. Take time each day to reflect on the blessings in your life.
Fill your heart with God’s word: Scripture is a love letter from God to us, and it’s important to spend time reading it.

By guarding our heart, we’ll look more like Jesus and reflect His love.

Let your beauty shine from the inside out today!

  1. Love the verse and I totally agree with you tips! What size are you wearing in the light blue cable button up sweater?

  2. Such a pretty picture she made you. So sweet. I always have my refrigerator full of grandkids art. BFTH so true. Great reminder and love that verse. Enjoy your company after church. We will be home for church today, watching online. I’m sick.

    1. This is the best time of year to live in the Houston area. It’s warm enough to wear all the lovely Spring fashions. Of course, in the summer, it’s too hot to wear more than shorts and a tank top, and that doesn’t work for most things. Always enjoy your posts!

  3. Very good post. I agree with your tips on how to guard your heart. Have a blessed Sunday with your family. I’m leaving for church shortly. I agree with you about dressing in early spring. March has been on the cool side. February was warmer. I’m not complaining because once it gets hot it stays hot till October.

  4. Good morning,Cyndi! Spot on BFTH for me today. I’m continually working on my influences being positive ones and being more encouraging to those who are negative thinking. We have a chilly 25 degrees here in the Catskills this AM. I know the same frustration with dressing this time of year. Having pretty pastel sweaters to wear helps me! Enjoy your Sunday! ❤️
