The Latest Jeans Trends for Women Over 40

The most popular trend right now is the wide-leg jeans. Depending on your style, these are comfortable, versatile, and flattering for women over 40. They come in ankle and full length, and the light wash styles are great for spring and summer.

The key to styling wide-leg jeans is to pair them with a top that highlights your waist. I usually do this by tucking my shirt into my jeans or by wearing a more structured jacket. Below are a few of my favorite jeans for spring and all year round!

Ana Flare

Mid Rise Kick Fit Jeans

I love wearing white or off-white jeans for spring, especially when I style them with lighter neutrals and blues. It’s the perfect coastal look for the warmer months.

High Rise Ankle Flare Jeans

If you like to be on trend, cuffed jeans are popular right now. For petite ladies, wearing a small heel works best with this style of jean.

Straight-leg jeans are my go-to pair. I have them in multiple lengths. I ordered these J.Crew jeans in a tall length so they would be longer.

Kick Out Raw Hem Crop Jeans (another option here in a different wash)

Wide-Leg Ankle Jeans

If you’re not a fan of flare, these Wit & Wisdom bootcut jeans are a great alternative.

Beauty For the Heart®– But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do. Psalm 1:2-3

Truth: The psalmist describes spending time in the law of the Lord as a delight. Meditating on scripture should not be a duty or something we check off our list.

The more we delight in God’s presence, the more fruitful we will be. A person who spends time in God’s word will prosper. That doesn’t mean we will be financially rich or that we’ll have more “stuff.” We will prosper as we become more like Christ and display steadfastness and strength like a tree firmly planted by the water.

  1. Hi Cyndi~
Would it be possible to style a capsule wardrobe for 9 days in France for the summer? Classic pieces with some sleeves? Churches, etc require these.
    Thanks for considering.

  2. My favorites are straight leg, bootcut and itty bitty boot cut. I do own a wide leg pair from J. Jill and a cuffed pair from them that I’m very pleased with. They are petite which fits my 5’3 frame perfectly.

  3. I love jeans but they are too heavy for summer. I have been searching for a pair that is cropped light weight. Is there such a thing? I can’t find it. I need a short length too.

Thank you for posts. Everyday I look forward to the verses you post. Plus your clothes are always classy and lady like I. e. Underclothes remain under clothes!

    1. Christine, try J.Jill. I have owned a pair of lightweight jeans from them that I love. I’ve had them for years and they are considered the slim leg jean. I can wear them comfortably into the high 70’s, low 80’s. Hope this helps.

  4. Love the BFTH. So true. I like the same style jeans you like the best…..straight(crop). I’ve been experimenting with other styles but I just feel frumpy in the wide leg and the wide cuff. I gave up my skinnies, all but one pair that is a little wider and I cuff, so they don’t read as a skinny. I can’t believe how long they were ‘IN.” I remember buying my first pair at GAP and thinking it was going to be a fad and I felt funny wearing them at first. Our eye sure does change as the styles do. I suppose its like the seasons, its good to have a change. I’m going to check out these jeans you styled. I’ve been wearing Wit n’ Wisdom a lot and I have the Itty Bitty boot but haven’t worn them yet. I’m so use to the light wash, the darker is throwing me off on what to wear with them in the Spring.

  5. I am 5’2” I haven’t found a wide leg Jean to work for me yet. I love bootcut in cooler weather & slim straight crops in warm weather. I love the raw hem so I can crop my own if the jeans are too long! You look great in all styles! I just hope low rise jeans stay away! 😂

  6. My favorite styles are wide leg, flare, bootleg and straight leg. My wide leg jeans are from Loft and Talbot’s. They are petite and proportional for my petite frame. Some wide leg and flares are over the top. They give wide legs a bad name. I have some cuffed jeans. The contrast between the cuff and rest of the jeans is low. I like slim straight styles but I don’t like skinny jeans at all. I have never understood their appeal. They show every lump and bump. For everyday wear I like straight ankle styles.

  7. Hi Cyndi, can you link the shoes you are wearing in the picture with the long pink cardigan? The shoes linked are not the shoes in the pic. Thanks!

  8. I didn’t think I could pull off the wide leg but found a pair I love at chicos. I’m so glad to see the ripped and torn jeans are fading away. For teenagers I think they’re fine, on adults not so much.

For casual looks I do like the raw hem – it’s fun 🤩.
Thanks for all the cute options and looks.

  9. I enjoy wearing several styles of jeans with the exception of skinny jeans. I never liked them and am happy that they are no longer in style.
