Which One Should I Choose?

My sister-in-law texted me yesterday and asked me for my favorite Bible verse.

My niece is graduating from sixth grade and the christian school she attends will be giving her a Bible.

They want to highlight favorite verses of her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.

What a sweet idea but oh the pressure for me.

It’s so hard to pick ONE!

I have so many I love…..

so many that have touched me…..

and honestly they change as my seasons in life change.

As I searched through my Bible I have so many underlined

and I’m reminded why I love that particular verse.

Luke 7: 47, “Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—for she loved much.

But he who has been forgiven little loves little.”

Having been divorced this verse is so tender to me,

my sins though many are forgiven and I LOVE MUCH!

John 14:27, (my Mom’s favorite verse), “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.

I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

I clung so tightly to this while Mom was dying with cancer.

But today, this is the verse I gave for my niece’s Bible,

Hebrews 12:1, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses,

let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles,

and let us RUN with PERSEVERANCE the race marked out for us.”

Yes! I love that!

I imagine those that have gone before me, my Mom,

my grandparents, friends, cheering me on.

Sometimes I fall but they cheer, and I get back up and continue to run

the race towards Jesus.

Life is a race, a marathon, and I want to keep running,

I want to be found faithful.

What about you?

Do you have a favorite verse to share?

I’d love to hear what is is.

Walking in His Grace,

leave a comment...

  1. I’m like you–I’d find it hard to choose just one! But Psalm 19 and Psalm 27 are come back to me over and over and over. Of course, that’s two favorite CHAPTERS, not just verses. Hmmm. Maybe Matthew 6:33? Or Micah 6:8? Or Joshua 1:9?

I think your choice was a great one! Love you!

  2. Like you, my verses change through the seasons of my life, but I love this verse – See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:19

  3. “I can do everything through him who gives me strength”
    ~Philippian 4:13
I also have many many verses that have helped guide me with daily living but this verse touches me daily, it has gotten me through my many storms of life and I am now passing it onto my children, they know it word for word and everytime this verse is spoken of I get a “special” glance/smile from my children; their eyes sparkle!!–memories that will last forever!

  4. You’re right, hard to choose just one. (By the way, don’t know if I’ve ever commented on your blog before…..I sure enjoy reading.) One of the things that I MARVEL at is that He died for us, not once we got our act together, not when we were being “good”, “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans5:8)
