Leave a Legacy of Faith

This race from the 2008 Beijing Olympic games is a reminder that we must pass the baton and leave a legacy of faith.

The 4X100 relay is one of the most spectacular sporting events you can watch. Four individuals consecutively make one trip around a quarter mile track at a full sprint in less than forty seconds, and in the process, they pass a small metal baton to each other.

It is the consummate team effort. The four fastest individuals in the world can be disqualified if they fail to pass the baton successfully.

Such was the case for both the U.S.A. men’s and women’s relay teams at the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008. They failed to pass the baton, and it dropped to the track. Consequently, they were disqualified.

The important part of this story for us is, they failed to pass the baton!

Like a runner passing a baton in a relay race, we are responsible for passing along the baton of faith.

The perfect example of passing the baton is Jesus to his disciples.

Matthew 28:19-20, Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Are you striving to pass on the baton of faith to those around you?

I’ve been listening to this song all week!

I need you to soften my heart
And break me apart
I need you to open my eyes
To see that You’re shaping my life

All I am, I surrender

Give me faith to trust what you say
That you’re good and your love is great
I’m broken inside, I give you my life

I need you to soften my heart
And break me apart
I need you to pierce through the dark
And cleanse every part of me

All I am, I surrender

Give me faith to trust what you say
That you’re good and your love is great
I’m broken inside, I give you my life

‘Cause I may be weak
But Your spirit strong in me
My flesh may fail
My God you never will
I may be weak
But Your spirit strong in me
My flesh may fail
My God you never will

Give me faith to trust what you say
That you’re good and your love is great
I’m broken inside, I give you my life

Give me faith to trust what you say
That you’re good and your love is great
I’m broken inside, I give you my life

‘Cause I may be weak
But Your spirit strong in me
My flesh may fail
My God you never will
I may be weak
But Your spirit strong in me
My flesh may fail
My God you never will

I’m so honored that you have taken time out of your day to stop by my blog. I’m also on FacebookPinterest, and my favorite one, Instagram.
