Look Up Where your Help Comes

(*I wrote this post last night as I was sitting in the hospital with my mother-in-law. She fell a little over four weeks ago, and she’s not getting better. We will be talking with Hospice on Monday. In the weeks ahead, we will Look Up Where Our Help Comes.)

A few weeks ago at church, a young lady sang this song by Nicole Nordeman, and I knew I wanted to share it with you.

I love that it has a phrase from an old hymn that I grew up singing in church. I can see my Mom standing next to me singing this hymn; it was one of her favorites.

The hymn is called, Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus, and it was written in 1922 by Helen H. Lemmel.

O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!

Refrain:
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
O’er us sin no more hath dominion—
For more than conqu’rors we are!

His Word shall not fail you—He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!

Refrain:
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

The hymn is based on Hebrews 12:2, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him, he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Psalm 121:1 says, I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lordwho made heaven and earth!

These verses remind us to look up to Jesus……

Today if you’re overwhelmed…..look up

If you’re weary or troubled…..look up

If you’re struggling with a wayward child….look up

If you have a broken relationship…..look up

If you’re fearful…..look up

If you’re dealing with the loss of a loved one….look up

Have a blessed Sunday!

  4. Oh Cyndi….I know the story you are going through well. My MIL feel broke her hip at age 90 yrs. old and never got better, went on hospice and then passed. We sat with her daily too. She had lost my FIL just 3 yrs. earlier and she was never the same. I will pray for you all today….I just got this post today and will pray that her pain is managed until Jesus takes her home. I get tears in my eyes thinking of her meeting her Savior and her dear husband soon. Please, please take all the time off you need from this job. I’m sure everyone including sponsors would understand. I’m not sure how it all works but you could make yourself crazy trying to do it all. You have a lot on your plate. Love to you and your family.

  5. Having lost my mom 19 weeks ago today, I can imagine what you are going through. My mother was a faithful follower of Jesus all her life, so we know that she is in heaven, but oh the letting go was so very hard. It still is. Praying for your family dear lady. Yes, looks to Jesus. He will send His Holy Spirit to comfort you all. I’m so thankful for our Savior.

  6. Cyndi, I’m so sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. I will be praying for her comfort and for your family to have the peace that only God can give. When I lost my mother, the only thing that got me through was knowing that Jesus was Lord of her life and I would see her again someday.

  7. Owning an assisted living facility and facing these situations almost daily i feel your heartache and also understand your joy of what awaits your mil in heaven as hard as it is to let go hold on to the good memories and know you will all meet again one day…keeping tall in my prayers

  13. Praying for your mother-in-law that her heaven going would be peaceful and pain free. And praying for your family that you all will find joy and peace amidst the pain of losing her as you share memories and praise Jesus for her life.

  14. Our family has been through this experience as well. It is very difficult but so comforting to know that she is going home to be with our Lord. Many blessings to you and her loved ones during this painful time.
Cyndi, I so look forward to your blog everyday not only for fashion advice but also for the daily inspiration, it’s a wonderful way to start my day! Thank you!

  15. Prayers to you and your family Cyndi. This is one of those times when you have to lean into a Jesus. He will hold you up.

  16. I will be praying for her pain to be minimal as she goes to our sweet Jesus. What a wonderful reunion that will be! Our family will be enduring the year anniversary of the loss of my 28 year old son! The tears just keep coming. Prayers going up for your family… don’t worry about your followers they understand if you don’t write for a time.

  17. Oh Cyndi,

We are all praying and lifting you and your family up. I’m so sorry….

I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth Psalm 121:2

  18. Beautiful post, We lost my father in law 3 weeks ago and it was like you said bittersweet. His sweetheart passed 6 years ago and he has been longing to join her ever since. He got so weak and just couldn’t hang on any longer. We are sad they are both gone but rejoice they are together again in heaven. Blessings to you and your family.

  19. Oh Cyndi,
Hugs and prayers for all of you. Isaiah 41:10; the Lord will continue to give you the strength, help and uphold you in this. I know you are leaning on Him.

  20. So sorry to hear this about your mother-in-law. Losing a parent is so difficult. Rejoicing that she will be ushered into glory and free of pain soon.

  21. Prayers to you & your family. I have been there, and your faith is definitely what helps you to get through these tough times. Thank you for your commitment to this blog.

  22. Praying for you and your family as our Lord surrounds you all with his loving arms of grace and mercy. God Bless your family.

  23. Dear Cyndi, I am asking Our Lord to surround your Mother In Law and your whole family with the white light of His tender love and Divine protection and to give you peace. God bless you and yours!

  24. This was my Daddy’s favorite song. He was Baptized while this song was played in church,as a young man. When he passed away in 2011 this song was sung at his funeral.
I am so glad we have A loving Father in heaven to hold onto when life has changes we must face. But, He never changes and because He lives we can face tomorrow.

  25. Praying for God to hold your sweet Mother in law in the palm of His hands. Praying for peace and comfort for her. Praying for your family at this time and the time ahead. Jesus us our souls home ❤

  26. My heart goes out to you and your family as you deal with the very possible passing of your MIL. There is never a time when we are ready for the loss of a loved one but the holidays seem to make it even more poignant. I pray you all feel the presence and peace of our Lord as you “turn your eyes upon Him”.

  27. I have been reading your blog for some time now and love it! I love your blog as you share your personal life, remind us to have faith all the while teaching us about fashion I do not normally leave comments but this time I felt that I needed to write to offer a prayer for your mother in law. Like my mother, she has made the decision to meet the Lord and we must honor it. I pray that she finds the peace that she is looking for and everlasting love.

  28. Cyndi!
Thank you so very much for sharing this today.!
I am so sad for you and your family over the the difficulty with your mother-in-law. End of life issues are glorious and yet full of grief. I pray your dear one will fly to Jesus soon.
This past Friday my son-in-law kicked my youngest daughter out of their home when he discovered her infidelity. My mother’s heart exploded with grief for this family which includes a baby in heaven and a two year old.
The beautiful old hymn you shared here today has been bumping around in my bran all week. On Friday I knew why. Only the living face of Jesus kept me from sinking into despair.
Through the power of prayer from my husband, myself and my family and friends they reconciled this afternoon and have agreed to work on their marriage. They have a lot of work ahead but the wonderful eyes of Jesus are on them and they will be more than conquerors.
I need the wisdom of your Godly posts every day so God bless you and keep you and all those whom you love.

  29. Praying for you and your family, Cyndi. I love the way you share your faith as well as your fashion ideas. This is surely a hard time for you all but I know that you are looking up with joy, not grieving as others do but rejoicing with assurance that you will spend eternity together!

  30. Oh Cyndi, I am so heartbroken for your sweet family! Praying God will surround you with His comfort and peace as you trust in Him. What an inspiration! She has lived her life devoted to Jesus and is so ready to go home to Him. Praying she passes without pain.
“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”
    Rom 15:13

  31. Hugs and prayers to you and your family. I went through this same scenario 6 years ago with my dad. It is never easy. I tried to focus on the 48 wonderful years I had with my dad and how blessed I was to have had that! Praying for your mother in law and all of you! God is there for
    You!

  32. It’s so difficult seeing loved ones going through the final days. Keeping our eyes on Jesus brings hope, encouragement and peace. Prayers for the family.

  33. Prayers for all. My father died today nine years ago today. Seems like just yesterday. I miss him terribly. He was my go to in trying to understand my mom my whole life. I promised him to always take care of her. Some days are not easy. I believe that is one of the reasons i look forward to your guidance every day. God always has a plan…we will understand it one day. Blessing for your mother in law.

  34. I am praying for your Mother-in-law to receive God’s blessing. He alone knows who holds tomorrow as you have reminded us. Stand strong in God’s love, it is such a special love that he freely gives to His children.

If there is anything I can do in sending emails etc. for your family or your business I am only a press of the send key away. Willing to help, however I am needed.

Grace and Peace to you and your family.

  35. I am praying for you and your family! Although her destination is reassuring, it is so hard going through this. Love you dear sister!

  36. Cyndy,

My MIL just passed this last Oct. 1st at 2:30 in the morning with no family there.. Very similar circumstances, as your MIL, she had fallen and deteriorated over a few weeks. She was 94. She loved Jesus with all her heart. She was in hospice, with a nurse who was new to hospice, who had never had a death before. Lois began to fade and this beautiful, loving nurse held our dear mom’s hand and sang Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus while Lois took her last breath on earth and her first breath in Heaven. I got chills reading your message today. God be with all of you. He is SO good and faithful.

  37. Cyndi,
Know that Jesus is holding your mother-in-law, all of you, in the palm of His hand. Hugs and prayers coming your way.

  38. Oh Sweet Cyndi. I am praying for you and your whole family. May you feel God’s love and peace surrounding you all.

  39. Oh, Cyndi! What a difficult time for your family! I am praying God’s comfort for you all, and an easing of pain for your dear one!
Please know you are in our hearts during this time. ❤️

  40. I am so sorry, Cyndi. Praying for your sweet mother-in-law, you, Wayne and your family. May the love of God comfort you all.

  41. You and Wayne are in my prayers. He has had much sadness recently but he has you to get him through it. You are such an inspiration and your love for Jesus is so obvious. ‘Turn your Eyes on Jesus’ is most appropriate. God bless you and your precious family.

  42. I will be praying for your MIL and your family during this transition time. A transition to her heavenly body, free of pain and loneliness. Much love to your family!

  43. May God’s infinite love surround your MIL with comfort. And to all the family gathered around her too.

Remember Cyndi work will always be there. Don’t feel one moment of guilt for being with her or Wayne.

Sending extra prayers of strength to get through this trying time and the holidays simultaneously. 🙏🏻🎄

  44. Prayers for your sweet mother in law, as well as your whole family.
What a blessing it is to know you will see her again, and that soon she will meet her Lord & Savior face to face!

Our son has not been walking with the Lord, and my prayer has been…whatever it takes to draw him back. Well, he had a horrific car accident early Monday…hit a tree, flipped the car and landed upside down in a water filled ravine. He has no recollection of the accident nor how he got out of the car. He is virtually unscathed physically, but was terrified and is making strides to reconnect with the Lord.

    God is good!

    1. Wow! I think he has been God-smacked! Give him time to recover from what has happened to him. His walk with the Lord is just around the corner mama. Keep the faith and never give up!

  45. I am so very sorry To read about your MIL. I told you about my father and his perforated ulcer that should have ended his life. He at 90 opted for the surgery despite what surgeon said. It’s a gift from God that he survived. His quality of life currently is ok but not what it was. He’s ok with it.
I commend your MIL for making the decision. Many refuse and want the children to decide. She knows God has a plan for her and it will include her loving husband whom she lost in August. Such a hard time for all and your husband losing both parents less than 6 months apart is just beyond difficult. He’s so fortunate to have you by his side. May God bless you and your family.

  46. So sorry for this difficult time for you and your family. Even though difficult, it is such a comfort to know that Wayne’s mom is looking up to Jesus for such a time as this, as she has lived her life for Him. Thank you for sharing this beautiful scripture and song! Peace and comfort for Wayne’s mom, you and Wayne and family!

  47. Sending hugs to you and your family. May the peace that passes all understanding keep you and yours until we are all together again.

  48. I am so, so sorry, Cyndi. Praying for all y’all, and many virtual ((hugs)) sent your way. “Peace I leave with you…My peace I give unto you…”

  49. My prayers to you and your family during this difficult time. She sounds like a wonderful person who is ready to go home and be with Jesus. Thinking of you all.

  50. I am surprised (and dismayed) that a bowel perforation has gone undetected so long. I don’t blame her for not wanting to have the surgery. I pray you all see God show up at her bedside in tangible ways. And don’t think you have to stay on your normal blog schedule. Family is important.

  51. May we always keep our eyes turned to Jesus!!! Prayers for you and your family. And for sweet peace for your Mother-In-Law that only comes from above.

  52. Praying for you and your family during this time – how wonderful your mother-in-law knows what comes next! That she will look upon Jesus and see her beloved husband again❤️ Take care.

  53. Cyndi , I am praying for you and your family , I know it is hard to lose loved ones but I am praying for peace for your MIL .
    Many prayers !!!!
    Diana

  54. Praying for your dear mother-in-law and for your precious family. So thankful for her faith and the knowledge that Jesus will meet her to welcome her home and her husband will be so happy to see her. Cyndi, I greatly appreciate your steadfast testimony to the goodness and faithfulness of the Lord in every season and in every circumstance of life…all for His glory and our good.
    Many blessings in Christ….

  55. Cyndi, praying for you and your family at this time. It is so very hard letting go of a loved one and it’s something you will never get over ,just know they are no longer in pain and with their lord and savior. Sounds like your MIL is ready to end this journey on earth and I think of her often even tho I do not know her or you. You are such a bright light to me and so many others. She is so blessed to have such a loving family around her at this time. My wonderful Mother and MIL both had cancer take them from us and we were where you are now. I will continue to pray for you and your family at this time.

  56. Cyndi.. My heart goes out to you and your family . I’m so sorry to hear your mother in-law is not improving! Praying for you and your family during this time..

  57. I lost both of my parents from the same issues you and Wayne are going through. My mom with her hip and my dad with a perforated colon. I know that there is a point when they are just tired of fighting. I will continue to pray for your Mother In Law as she Turns Her Eyes Upon Jesus to bring her home! Love and prayers for you all!

  58. My heart goes out to you and your entire family at this time.
I lost my Dad 6 years ago and my Mother at 87 years old this past
September. She missed my Dad so much in those 6 years.
I will hold you all in my prayers and pray her way to heaven. May God’s love give you comfort, peace and the strength to get through the difficult days ahead.

  59. How Cyndi,
My heart goes out to you at this difficult time. I know you have your faith and family but I’ll say a few extra prayers your family anyway.
In our family we are huggers so I’m sending you a great big hug.
    In peace,
    Marcia

  60. Oh Cyndi, I am praying for you and your family. When I read your post I cried and yet I could praise God for making a way for us to be with Him. May His peace, comfort, and grace be with your mother in law, you, Wayne, and all of your family in a powerful way.

  61. Sending prayers to you and yours. May God be front and center holding you all in his merciful arm as you walk this journey he has planned.

  62. My heart aches for your family. But, a great celebration is ahead. Prayers for comfort and peace only He can provide. Gripping His Hem.

  63. My thoughts are with you, your husband and family during this time. I know you are all strong and will get through it with each other. I also think that if you need a few days off during this time that you should take them. We will be here when you get back. Prayers!!

  64. Prayers for your entire family as you go through this difficult time. May the grace of God surround you all with His comfort and love.

  65. I’m so sorry to hear this news about your dear Mother-in-Law. I’m praying for God’s comfort for her as she transitions into the arms of Jesus and peace for all of you. The hymn is one of my favorites as well. Your MIL has her eyes turned upon Jesus and soon she will look fuly into His wonderful face as she meets her Savior! Is there any greater joy, is there any greater blessing? Hugging you all in my heart. 🙏❤️🙏

    1. PS: All of us here, your Blog family, love you Cyndi. Please don’t feel the pressure of keeping up with your Blog obligations just for us; we’ll remain your faithful readers. It’s our turn to love and take care of you through prayers and encouragement in your time of grief. 🥰

  66. So sorry to hear about your mother-in-law and the sorrow your family is facing. Life is far too short no matter how long you live. She was blessed to have such a caring and loving family throughout her life.
Thoughts and prayers to you all.

  67. Praying 🙏🏼 with you, Cyndi. May the grace of our God envelope you and your family with strength and comfort during this difficult time. Hugging 🤗 you with all of my heart.

  68. Oh my goodness Cyndi, my heart is hurting for your family at this time. There is peace knowing your mother-in-law is in our God’s arms. His timing is perfect even if not perfect for us. My prayer is that her pain is limited as well as yours.

  69. Praying for you and your family. May you feel His merciful arms wrapped around you. Praying also that you be able to take time for yourself and family. All of your “blog” family will be right here when you come back.

  70. Such a beautiful song! One of my favorite hymns. I’m so sorry to hear about your MIL. I will be praying for her peaceful home going. Also praying for comfort for Wayne, yourself and your entire family. May Gods hand be upon you all. 😘🙏🏻

  71. Sending you hugs from afar. Praying that your mother in law doesn’t suffer. Take comfort that our earthly bodies are temporary and we have eternal life with God.

Your readers understand what you are going through and support you; hopefully the companies you work with do too. Take any time off as needed; we aren’t going anywhere. You are in my prayers. 💛🙏

  72. Praying for you and your mother-in-law and all of your family. Thank you for sharing your faith especially during these difficult times.

  73. I am so sorry…I am praying for you and your family during this time of helping your mother-in-law on her home going journey. I am praying for you while you have to work…I know it is hard but you are amazing to keep your word on jobs.

    Be Blessed

    Sheree

  74. Cyndi – I will keep your family in my prayers. Your readers appreciate your posts, but surely we will all understand if you take time to care for your family at this time. I can’t imagine that any of us would want you to miss a moment with your family or the opportunity to look after yourself.

Hugs from afar and continued prayers,

    Shar

  75. Cyndi, after reading your post this morning it reminded me of something I remind myself when things get hard – “Look up and remember who you are” – a daughter of God, the most high King! It helps to keep an eternal perspective. Hugs

  76. Lots of prayers for you and your family. Grief and sorrow are so very hard, BUT JESUS!!! Hallelujah that we have the promise of eternal life and we will see our loved ones again!!! Please let this blog be the least of your concerns right now. We all be right here when you decide to come back. I send you love in CHRIST.

  77. So very sorry to hear of this sad news about your MIL…My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Sounds like she was a wonderful devoted woman who will
Soon be home with Jesus. God Bless you.

  78. Cyndi, Please spend as much time with your family as you can. Relationships are all we have and all we take with us.
We will be here when you get back.
God bless you and your family.

  79. So very sorry to hear the news on your MIL. Never a good time to go through this, but to me this time of year is the worst….sending hugs and prayers to you and your family

    Take care

  80. Praying for your MIL and for your whole family. Death isn’t easier to deal with when expecting it to happen. It’s just as hard as when it’s unexpected. I went through that with my fathers passing in 2009. God’s grace is always sufficient. His comfort and mercy are always available to us in our time of need. And His peace passes all understanding. Please keep us posted as we agree in prayer for this season of time in the lives of you n your family to pass according to His perfect will.
    Love in Jesus,
    Yvonne Cervantes

  81. Oh Cyndi I cried as I read your post this morning. A couple of weeks ago it was 6 years since losing my mom, at age ( her age67) and singing familiar hymns in church that she loved was so hard I could’nt keep back the tears. I pray that God will comfort and hold each one of you close in these days ahead and for your mother-In- law. I’m sure she misses her husband dearly. This as you know is in Gods hands he already has a plan. I know it’s a busy time of year but please look after yourself first… we can wait.
    Love and prayers
    Karen

  82. Definitely praying for your mother in law. All you can do is leave it in God’s hands. As you said you are comforted knowing where she will go.

But for you … nothing is as important as your family. Your readers appreciate you working to post something every day but we would all certainly understand if you need to take some time off.

    With love and prayers….

    Gina

  83. Cyndi, I will definitely keep your MIL and all of you in my prayers! The fact that she loves Jesus does help all of you accept that her time on this earth is coming to an end, but, as you know, grief still hits us. Peace be with you!

  84. I’m so sorry to hear about your dear mother in law. Your strength and faith in our God is what will get you all through this. May He continue to hold your mother in law in His loving arms as she waits to join him.

  85. Oh Cyndi,
So sad to hear the update on your dear mother-in-law. May the good Lord be with you and your family during this difficult time.

  86. Praying for God to help your family through your time with your mother-in-law. God is at work and knows your desires. May the next days bring peace and even greater faith to you and your family.

  87. So, so sorry to hear about your mother in law! I love your Sunday inspiration. I use it to set the tone with my preschoolers for the week. This week we will focus on finding help in the Lord and we will say a special prayer for your family.
