Our Hope Is In Christ

We have all experienced hurt, and pain, and even loss. We wonder at times, “why do I have to suffer?”

Remember, we aren’t seeing everything. There are things going on behind the scenes that we can’t comprehend on this side of heaven.

John Piper says, “God is always doing 10,000 things in your life, and you may be aware of three of them.” We only see a tiny part of what God is doing in our life, and many times it doesn’t make sense.

Having a relationship with God doesn’t mean we won’t suffer. Sin affects everyone, and because of that, we all experience pain and hardship. The difference is that God promises to be with those who trust in Him.

Psalm 34:19 says, “A righteous man may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.”

This doesn’t mean life will be easy, but that we will have help overcoming difficult times.

Remember there is more to our story! 1 Corinthians 13:12 says, “Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity.”

Mercy Me has a new song that is powerful and reminds us that our hope is in Christ alone.

  1. thank you so much for that beautiful song – I needed that so much!! Thanks for being such an inspiration to me and my Mom!!

  2. What a beautiful song; I haven’t heard it yet. I’m not in the car that often anymore so I really need to make it a point to use the radio in the house.

  3. This is my new favorite song. I downloaded a couple weeks ago and listen to it every day!! I love the actual music as well as the words! I say them over and over to myself when I feel discouragement coming in. Thank you for the reminder. Have a blessed week!

  4. This is a very beautiful song, the first time that I heard it, I broke down in tears. You always have words of faith and wisdom that are perfect for the “storm” we are each battling.

    God bless each of you.

  5. Thank you for sharing this song. So timely. I am learning through suffering that the True Fountain’s springs of grace will bring us to a quiet resting place in His love. Even our tiny bit of faith is not the mover of the mountain, but true hope will & must always anchor itself in the object of our faith, our dear Jesus, who alone can do the impossible. The Good Shepherd knows each of his sheep by name & tenderly will bring each one safely home. I am trusting in the Keeper of my heart through His power, day by day.

  6. I love this song too. The words, the message, the hope…what we all can hold onto in joyful and challenging times. Thank you Cyndi!

  7. Thank you Cyndi for sharing. I’ve been struggling many yrs…..30 to be exact, with migraines. Worst than ever these last years. I’ve tried everything there is out there, but acupuncture, and that is next. I struggle getting my hopes up, then nothing helps. Running out of options. I pray the Lord will heal me someday, but understand I don’t understand it all. Thank you for the beautiful song with the beautiful reminder. Blessings to you and all you do to help woman live beautiful from the inside out. My daughter was home this weekend and I shared with her for the first time about following your blog and your sisters recently and now Courtney’s. I told her I am blessed by you and its like I know you and I showed her the picture of your mother on your sisters blog and said, “This woman sounds like she was the most wonderful lady and her legacy is going on with her daughters and granddaughters etc.” I told her if we ever get a trip to Kentucky, I’d love to come to your church to worship and meet you all. 🙂 Bless you day.

    1. Kathy, I also have struggled with aural migraines for many, many years. Just recently I was placed on Magnesium vitamins twice a day and my migraines have stopped completely. It may be something you would like to try – my prayers are with you, I know the pain.

      1. Thanks for sharing Lori. I have tried magnesium supplements a couple times with 2016 being the last time. I don’t have any change. I’m soooo happy for you. I can’t imagine the day, I hope, that I experience migraines stopping completely. Thanks again for sharing. I know only migrainers can really relate or understand. Bless you.

  8. Absolutely love this song! So powerful. And it’s a good thing people can’t hear me sing in my car because I sing it loudly ☺️

  9. Absolutely beautiful! Thank you for this share today. I’ve seen MercyMe live and their music just speaks to me. Thank you and God bless you and your readers!

  10. I just got home from church and read your blog. It ties in so perfectly with our service today that I just sat and wept through because of situations we have been going through for months and even years. Most currently is my husband’s unemployment which is entering 4 months. It is hard to understand the why, but we must keep trusting that God will see us through because He is always faithful!

    1. Debbie, my name and is Deb as well and when I read your comments, I had to say in my mind, ” oh how I understand”. since 2013, my husband has had a knee replacement, colon surgery which they thought it was cancer, open heart surgery, chemo twice for a blood problem he has, lost his job after the colon surgery, had to use our IRA to live on which is now gone, he has arthritis and is in severe pain all the time and in October this past year I lost my job. Life is not easy, but through all this I have peace that I know God will take care of us. Our God is faithful, even when we are not, but he is an awesome God who we can trust. It is hard to understand the why, but we know we can rest in his arms and have peace. On a side note, I have to thank God that I got a job and will start in a week!!! God is good all the time and all the time God is good!!!!!

  11. Cyndi, I love that song as well. It’s an important message to hear. Faith needs to go beyond the blessings we see when life goes well for us as believers. And when we work with God in understanding that, we know him better and we are much better able to withstand the rough times. And what comfort we receive knowing he is right here with us and will never leave us on our own to handle it.

    Thanks for your post today!

    Sue Olson

  12. Another good song … In Christ Alone … the first part says:

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
    This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand

Psalms 71:14 “But I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more.”

Praise God for the hope we have in Him!

Thank you for reminding us of that today.

    1. Gina D.,
      That’s really, really beautiful.

      Cindy,
Thank you so much for this and for so giving of yourself to consistently inspire us to live for Christ. . . .Faith does not eliminate questions. I actually think it causes more of them but faith knows where to take those questions, even if the answers are few and far between. Out of suffering has emerged the strongest souls; it often seems the most Christ-like characters are seared with scars.
