Trapped between the sea and the Egyptian army, the Israelites cried out to Moses. They thought they were doomed.
Standing Still Amidst the Storm
Amid this chaos, Moses spoke words that have resonated for centuries: “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still.” Exodus 14:13-14
Anyone facing their own personal storms can find hope in these words:
1. Fear is inevitable, but faith can overcome it. Fear is a natural human response to danger. However, Moses doesn’t deny the fear; he acknowledges it head-on. The key lies in the second part of his statement: “Stand firm.” It’s not about ignoring the fear but choosing to stand firm and trust God.
2. Sometimes, in order to witness God working in our lives, we need to be still. It’s tempting to want to take matters into our own hands and fight our battles. But Moses asks the Israelites to be still, to step back, and observe. This stillness isn’t about passivity; it’s about recognizing that true power and salvation come from God, not from our own efforts.
3. God fights for us. This is the most comforting part of Moses’ words: “The Lord will fight for you.” We are not alone in our struggles. God stands with us, ready to intervene on our behalf. Our part is to trust and surrender, to allow Him to work in our lives.
Reflection:
- Are you allowing fear to paralyze you, or are you choosing to stand firm in faith?
- Are you creating space in your life to hear God’s voice and witness His action?
Remember, God fights for you. You are not alone.
Prayer:
Lord, when fear threatens to overwhelm me, help me to remember Your promises. Grant me the courage to stand firm, the wisdom to be still, and the faith to trust in Your unwavering presence. Fight for me, Lord, and show me Your salvation. Amen.

I especially love your Sunday posts! I’m trying to catch up on your and Jo-Lynne’s blog posts from the last week or so. It’s been a rough week. We live in southern coastal Louisiana, and we are still trying to recover from the back to back hurricanes of 2020, which were followed by a horrible ice storm in February of 2021, and a historic flood in May of 2021. Our home is still undergoing hurricane repairs, and insurance companies and mortgage companies make everything so much harder. I’m glad I waited to read this email because it was just exactly what I needed today, so thank you for sharing. God bless ❤️

Thank you for your great devotion today from God’s word! I recently finished reading the book of Exodus also as a part of a read the Bible in a year plan I am doing. That verse was something that recently jumped out to me also. Just be still and let God do His will. So much meaning in that! God’s word is always alive and working in our lives when we seek it! Thank you for sharing your faith with us! ❤️
The verse you shared was a part of my Bible reading yesterday. It jumped off the page at me and I read it several times, then later in the day I shared it with my husband. I love how the Lord is in all the little details. He can use anything to encourage us. So thankful for what you shared today.

Your 3 bullet points are almost identical to what our pastor preached on. The sermon really spoke to me today (as did your post) in relation to something I am working thru in my life. Great post. Thank you for the prayer. I also do not emerge myself in reading a lot on the news. I quit watching regular news a long time ago but I now even don’t read conservative news. I read headlines sometimes. I put myself and family in God’s hands. He’s in control and Almighty. I’m not watching the Superbowl. I especially would not watch half time with their rituals they call performance.
Cyndi, this word is very timely for my life. I am in the midst of a storm. I have felt all along that God is working, vigilantly behind-the-scenes. He truly is building my faith through this trial. This past week another person gave me this exact same verse in Exodus and said, the Lord was prompting her to give this to me. Thank you for being sensitive to the moving of the Holy Spirit.
