2018 Year in Review

Happy New Year’s Eve ladies! It’s hard to believe we only have a few hours left of 2018. Can we please slow these years down a little?

In 2019, I will celebrate 10 years of blogging!!!! What? That is crazy. I had no idea when I published that first post that blogging would become my full-time job.

Blogging has changed so much since I started. There was no Pinterest and no Instagram when I began, and I don’t think making money was on anyone’s radar. At least not mine.

I certainly could not have planned this out or even imagined it before 2009. I have mentioned this many times before, but my Mom introduced me to blogging in 2009 and then in September of that year, she passed away.

I didn’t know what to do with this blog, but I felt like Mom had given it to me and I wanted to keep it going for her. So it’s dedicated to my Mom who was beautiful inside and out. I hope I have honored.

Before we begin 2019, let’s take a peek back at a 2018 Year in Review. I had so much fun looking back, and I forgot that I started the New Year out with microblading.

January 2018 | Microblading was my most popular post for January. I had the first appointment at the end of 2017 and January was my second appt. I have had one touch up appt. and I’ll have another one in 2019.

I thought I would also share my favorite outfit for each month and this sweater was one of my favorites. I wore it a lot through the winter months.

February 2018 | Health is always a popular subject on my blog, and The Core 4 was my most popular post for February.

My favorite outfit for February was this top from Nordstrom. Some of you are very glad that the cold shoulder trend is not as popular now.

March 2018 | In March, Two Casual Spring Outfits was my top post. It cracks me up that some of my top posts are of me taking pictures of myself in a mirror. I need to remember that for 2019!

This was my favorite outfit in March; I wore this blouse from LOFT quite a bit.

Also in March, Wayne and I went on a week-long cruise. We had so much fun, and I’m ready to go on another cruise soon!

April 2018 | In April this post, Spring Sandals from Rack Room Shoes was my most popular. I think we were ready for some spring shoes!

This was my favorite outfit from April. I wore this tie front top all spring and summer.

May 2018 | Hair posts are always my most popular posts, and I plan to do more in 2019. I purchased this mirror so I can do them on Instasroies and I’ll share them here too.

In May, we moved into our new home. We absolutely love where we live, and we love our 5 acres of land.

Of course, I have to mention that our sweet Claire was born in May. What a joy she has been to our family!!

Wayne and I also went to Utah in May with my sister and brother-in-law for a Young Living conference.

I had my blog updated in May, and this was my favorite outfit.

June 2018 | My most popular post in June was this One top, Two Ways. It was the beginning of 21 Days of Summer Fashion, and I think we were all ready for summer!

This was my favorite outfit in June. I wore this short outfit a lot during summer.

July 2018 |  No surprise the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2018 Preview was my most popular post.

This was my favorite outfit in July!

August 2018 | In August we start thinking about the coming fall months. Most everyone is tired of buying summer clothes, so I start showing some fall trends. This Balloon Sleeve Trend cardigan was my most popular post.

I had two favorite outfits in August. I loved this blouse from Macy’s.

I also loved this outfit from Social Threads and wore it a lot in early fall.

September 2018 | Hands down the 7 Ways to Wear a Denim Shirt was my most popular post. I’m hoping to do more of these posts in 2019.

I wore the denim shirt a lot, but this navy blouse was another outfit I wore quite a bit. I love mixing navy and green.

October 2018 | In October I shared the Amazon Prime Wardrobe Try-on Session, and it was my most popular post.

My favorite outfit for October was this dress from JCPenney. It was a great fall dress!

November 2018 | The Fashion Trend That Keeps Coming Back was my most popular post, and I did wear this outfit a lot.

I also shared my new dining room furniture in November and how I styled it for fall. We have already used this dining room so many times!!

It was hard to pick one outfit for November, so I picked two. I love this colorblock dress, and I wore it yesterday to church.

I also wore this blouse a lot during the last few months.

December 2018 | Finally, December’s most popular post was 2018 Favorite Beauty Products.

This was my favorite outfit for December. It was comfortable and warm but still stylish.

Well, ladies, that is a wrap!! 2018 is almost in the books, and I’m excited for 2019. I don’t think I’m going to do a survey this year because I feel like by looking back, I see what you like and what I want to do more of in 2019.

  • One piece, several ways
  • more hair posts
  • more basic pieces
  • and affordable fashion.

I do want to hear from YOU so let me know in the comments what I can add in 2019.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to stop by my blog. I’m also on FacebookPinterest, and, Instagram.

Beauty For The Heart~~Today Wayne and I are headed out to lunch to take a look at 2018 and then set some goals for 2019.

Last year, we wrote 10 things on a small piece of paper that we were going to pray over and ask God to answer. These were not physical wants these were deep desires that we believed God also desired to answer.

We tucked the piece of paper in Wayne’s wallet (that way it wouldn’t be lost, I change my billfold and I would lose it).

Today we are going to look at that list and praise God for each answered prayer. If it wasn’t answered, we will add it to our new list for 2019, and we will keep praying.

I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer. Psalm 17:6

Have a blessed day!

  1. Hi Cyndi,

I love your blog along with the honesty and openness. Also love the fact, you style affordable pieces. I’ve been considering microblading however I was told there can be discoloring. Do you find this to be true now that you had yours done over a year ago? I’m horrible at filling in my brows and figured this would be a more convenient option.

  2. I would love if you could get some ideas for places to look for a cocktail dress that would be appropriate for a mother of the bride. I don’t think typical mother of the bride would look good on me. Thanks in advance.

  3. I absolutely love reading this blog! Excited to see what’s ahead for 2019. I would like to know…do you use any self tanners and if so which ones?

  4. Thanks for all you do Cyndi! Glad to recap all the great things that happened this year. I, like most readers, love the one item multiple ways posts! I just love all the ideas they give me. As I turn 50 this year I am hoping to work on my health and as my kids are growing up and don’t need me as much, spend some more quality time with my husband. I am hoping to head out on a cruise or go to Nashville – both are on my bucket list. Have a great 2019, good thoughts to you and your family!

  5. Dear Cyndi,
Your blog and Instagram sites are just so good! Very professional and extremely helpful to me. You truly do an amazing job.
I have purchased so many clothing items you recommend and always get compliments (none made the list but the pink moto jacket from Target was a big hit) and when I do I direct them to your blog and instagram sites. Also, I have purchased the Dr. Barnes sculpting wand and had my brows microbladed.
Happy New Year! Keep up the awesome job and thank you for all your wonderful advice to us older gals!

  6. Happy New Year to y’all! I really enjoyed this post and BFTH is great! I definitely appreciate seeing more affordable fashion. As retirees, our income does not receive yearly merit increases, so when we have unexpected big expenses, our income takes a hit. So, while I like to update my wardrobe, I have to control how much I spend. I am looking forward to what God has in store for all of us in 2019. Isn’t it great to have Him tak8ng every step with us!

  7. Loved this review and was surprised that I only purchased 2 of the tops you styled. Which was the Loft floral bell sleeve which came in petite and went great with jeans. I also bought the tie sleeve striped top and got a lot of wear out of that one too. But I used many of your outfits for inspiration and was trying to cut back on my shopping and helping my college daughter as well. Thank you for the wonderful job you did in 2018 and sharing your family and faith with us. I thought the idea of you and Wayne writing down your 10 things to pray about was so inspiring. They say that we should write down our goals but this is different and certainly special. Happy New Year and I look forward to our 2019 time together. Congrats on your 10 years and your momma would be proud. 💕

  8. I have always wanted to know more about body work. I work in a garden center and need to know more about how to take care of my body from a massage, pt or rolfing standpoint. Please let me know what you think. Also, I am 5’10” and like to wear longer shorts and wrap blouses as I am a 36DD. Please add options for more curvy women please. Thanks, and Happy New Year

  9. Cyndi, it has been 6 years since I discovered you online! We actually met in person when I was speaking at an education conference in Louisville. I value you as an online “friend” and appreciate your testimony, as well as your style!
Thanks for introducing me to Social Threads- I’ve ordered several things from there. I like the recommendations for shopping online you provide. Also enjoy the “one item several ways” posts and the songs you sometimes post. Happy New Year, Girlfriend!

  10. Cyndi I love your idea of praying over the coming year, especially for particular requests! So much better than tesolutions we are not going to stick to! Definitely doing that this year!
I definitely would like affordable fashion! I also enjoy dressing room try ons, as well as the how to wear the same item two ways type posts. Don’t know if you’ve ever done this but I like the round up of various brands of the same item (10 best skinny jeans, LBD, white tee etc)
I always look forward to reading whatever you post, most of all your Beauty for the Heart! Keep those coming for sure!

  11. Hi Cyndi – I found you on Pinterest about a year ago while looking for fashion for women over 50 and i ended up finding i was pinning all of your styles so started getting your emails. i look so forward to each days email and find them comforting and helpful. i have bought several of your outfits. i would love to see a tutorial of how you style your hair – loved you half updo video and have been styling my hair like that since we have a the same style.

  12. Happy New Year to you and your family. I have followed you for several years now. I enjoy the various posts and also that you are not ashamed to talk about your faith. I hope you have many blessings in the new year.

  13. Awesome summary of a fabulous year!
I’m a fairly recent follower (maybe 3 or 4 months) but loving your blog. I’m 48 and recently started my own business so trying to focus on “dressing the part” mainly through feeling put together, which you do so well. While blessed with people often thinking I look younger than I am, I’m still very conscious of wanting to dress my age in a stylish way, so I love finding loads of inspiration in your outfits (but don’t have all the brick n mortar stores you do) and am looking for more information on easy updos or hair/makeup/accessory/undergarment tips.

  14. Love the year in review post…bittersweet, eh?! As a previous reader commented, I, too, would like to learn more about the fit of the clothing you are styling and how it wears throughout the day, etc. Wishing you all the best in 2019 and I can’t wait to see more of your wonderful posts! God Bless!

  15. I think I’ve followed you since your blog beginning. It seems I remember your mother passing, and when you worked as a dental hygienist. I love your style and more than that I appreciate your passion for the Lord and how you incorporate that faith in your posts. Please don’t ever stop! I’m soon to be 60, and try to stay fit and like to wear fashionable clothes, and I’ve purchased several pieces you’ve styled on your blog.

  16. I really enjoy your blog. In fact, I think I enjoyed it even more in 2018. I think you ‘shared’ more of your personality. Maybe it’s because I see you on instagram now too. I would like more details about the outfits you post as in fit and why they work, etc.

  17. And as a follow up to my previous comment…not “Ha” 🤦🏻‍♀️😂but Happy New Year!!! 😉❤️🙏🏻🌟🎆🍾

  18. Always a blessing, an encourager, cheerleader, a true woman of beauty and grace…that’s our Cyndi Spivey!!! For all you do and for who you have allowed God to grow you into through this blog, thank you!!! Be blessed and be a blessing in 2019, Cyndi and fellow readers!!! Ha

  19. Cyndi I’ve been following your blog for about 6 years now. I loved your style and faith and I’m in a very similar stage of life. I still love hearing about your marriage, family, and faith, tge fashion isn’t as appealing to me these days, and it’s probably so many of the cold shoulder tops looks, hahaha. I also have really found my own look, but every so often I find something I love still, and that’s just fine. I would love more hair ideas, and I’m a young living oil user, so love to hear those as well. I also love accessories and ideas. I’m a huge a traveler and I also love travel wardrobe basics ideas. Blessings to you for 2019.

  20. I look forward to reading your posts each day. I go to bed thinking, oh good another post tomorrow. I enjoy style and have purchased many of your suggestions. I love God with all my heart. Reading your posts is such a nice way to begin my day. Thank you Cyndi from the bottom of my heart! God’s abundant blessings in 2019.
    Marry

  21. I love your blog. I only follow a few fashion blogs yours and Jolynn’s are my must favorites. I love you are so down to earth and real but still share your faith. I would love to hear more about your experiences with Botox and any other ways you stay looking younger. You look amazing!

  22. Cyndi….Thank you for your love for the Lord and how you bring us “Beauty from the Heart” each day! It’s truly a blessing. Thank you for your wonderful blog you share with us woman every day!

I also would like to see more “affordable” clothing posts and decorating for “the home” in 2019!

If you start your own clothing line, I am sure you will have all of us supporting you! (Hoping it’s not too pricey)😍

May God be with you, Wayne and your family in the New Year 2019!

    1. Thank you Holly!! My decorating posts always do well which cracks me up because I’m not a home blogger but we’ve got some projects we’d like to do so I will share those for sure!!

  23. I know lots of fashion bloggers style clothes and return them, which is fine by me, you only need so many clothes! But I’ve seen JoLynne post what she kept and why, I’d like to know which pieces you actually keep, like a monthly or even every other month recap.
Also I think when you started growing your hair out you talked about styling a messy bun or updo of some kind, but I have only noticed you do half up styles or sporty pig tails a few times. So I’d also like to see some updos.
    Best wishes in 2019!

  24. Enjoy your blog and all topics so much!! I was wondering about your home decor style? Have you always decorated in this style? Just interested to know how you made the transition??I see so many fashion bloggers who decorate in a similar manner. I love looking although it’s not my style😄
Happy New Year to you and yours and I look forward to your posts in the new year!! We are also keeping grands tonight!!

    1. I have changed my decorating style some over the years but I still have classic pieces. I need to do a complete home tour.

  25. Hi Cyndi! I LOVE seeing all of your clothes styles! It helps me tremendously when Im ready for new outfits! You are cute as a bug! lol
Your faith and love for your family and God shine brightly in you, physically and in your words. Many blessing to you and your family for the coming new year.
    Keep blogging!! WE LOVE IT!

  26. I love your posts! I subscribe to your emails and think I’ve been “member” for at least a year. I don’t recall how I found you but I believe I was searching for fashion advice for women over 40. It was a great plus that you also have Christian values! Like others I’d love to see some more affordable pieces, but even more so fashion ideas that span sizes. I’m more of an XL or XXL and 16 in jeans/pants. Some sites, like Sole Society only size to L. That’s my only suggestion and hope for the New Year!

Thank you for advice and love.

Blessings to you and your family!

    Cheryl

  27. Cyndi,
I have been following you for about 8 months & you are my favorite blogger. I love the clothes you pick out & your posts are uplifting. The declaration of faith is a bright spot in my day, especially your Sunday post & the music videos. I look forward to following you in 2019. May God’s Blessings be upon you & your family.

  28. I loved reading your blog this year. Happy New Year and many blessings for 2019. So neat you will get to spend the night with your grandkids. We stay in too on this night. I love your lunch date plans. That is so neat. Can’t wait to hear how many prayers were answered. God is Good.

    1. Thank you Kathy! I took my tree down a few days after Christmas this year. I never have a set date, I do it when I have the time. Sometimes it’s after New Year’s Day.

  29. Hi Cyndi! What fun looking back! I love your lunch date plans 😁 I would love for you to incorporate and share some good daily devotional plans or books. Also, being a retired “Nonnie”, what about ways or materials to incorporate Christ into our toddlers/ grandkids lives? Hope you have a great New Year!

    1. Love those ideas. I think I shared some on my Instastories but I’ll try to make sure I share them here too.

  30. Thanks for your inspiration. I am about 5 years behind you and I know the same things are coming my way soon! I feel like I am learning many of life lessons through you and it will help me when I get there. So thankful to have a sister in Christ who doesn’t pretend that life is perfect all the time but knows the He can help us through it all! I started faster way to weight loss today and I am going to start a gratitude journal in 2019. Both of these things will help me get in a better place spiritually and physically. Keep up the great work. I pray God blesses you and your family in 2019.

    1. Thank you Julie! So excited for your spiritual and physical journey in 2019.

Please know my life is NOT perfect and I hope I never come off that way. I have had some deep hurts, some of which are too personal to share publicly but God is good always.

  31. Cindi, I LOVE LOVE LOVE your blog both for the fashion and the faith inspiration! I am wondering what you do with all your clothing?
Do you regularly go thru it and donate or do you just a have a tremendous amount? How do you organize it also? I find that I wear probably less than 20% of what I own. Happy & blessed New year! Thanks, Kim

  32. Thank you Cyndi for all the time & effort you take for your blog. I so appreciate your love for the Lord and your heart to share His love & truth. Wishing you & Wayne a very blessed 2019. Enjoy your lunch 🍴 😊

  33. Cyndi, I would like to hear about your Botox experience. I’m thinking about getting it but am nervous.
Happy New Year to you & yours!

    1. If you can afford it, do it. It hurts a bit getting it done, but it is so worth it. I absolutely love the results (I’m in my 50’s) and yes, I can still move my face.

  34. I love your fashion blog. I need your “BEAUTY FOR THE HEART”.
It helps guide me in my daily walk with God.
Thank you and I pray God’s Blessing for you and your family throughout the New Year.

  35. Love your recap .So fun to look back and even better to look forward. We are excited to have our daughters wedding in late spring to look forward to which will certainly bring changes to the family. Looking forward to the new and returning styles for 2019. My daughter has already been giving me some heads up LOL. Happy New Year’s to you and Wayne both. Having an evening home with he grandkids sounds great. We are headed to our close friends yearly New Year’s Party, then our daughters fiancé’s family come for supper tomorrow, then time to look at getting the house back to normal. I did so some undecorating upstairs today so one more level to go.

Thank You again Cyndi for all you have done and provided on your blog this last year( even through those difficult days). I stumbled across you on Pinterest a few years back now and saw a scripture reading on a picture behind you in one of your photos… I was drawn to that as a fellow believer, and so blessed that I came across you.
